A pintura de BrunoKurrufica dentro de outra pintura. Cada tela é feita de várias telas. As coisas seabremparainterioresmenoresqueparadoxalmenteremetemnovamenteaotodo.Aparte,aoinvésdedetalhar,expande.Ficamospresosentãonesselabirintoespiraladodentrodoqualolhardepertomejogadevoltaparaaamplidão.Otodoestádentrodaparte,numainversãodaracionalidade,jogando-nosnoincompreensível.Emumadastelas,ouniversosurgenumburaconoasfalto,quefoiabertocomumapincelada.Ocorpoquepincelaoburacoaparecerepetidoemmenorescalanabeiradadoabismo,estratégiadereplicaçãorecorrentenessas pinturas,sejanareflexãodeumespelho,sejanumeuquesedesgarradocorpo,esvaziando-o.Amesmacenaéporvezespintadaduasvezes,contendosuaversãominiaturadentrodesimesma.Nónopensamento,comoonódopensarsobreoexistir.Ou,comoescritonumadaspinturas,legendadacomoumfilme,“howcanonereachthisstateofselfunderstanding?”.

Porquevejoouniversoescurocompontosbrilhantesquandofechoosolhos?SeháDeus,estádentroouforademim?Existeumórgãocorpóreoparaaconsciência?Oquedifereocorpovivodocorpomorto?Ondefica amatériavida?

Noprincípiodoséculo20,umateoriapseudocientíficasugeriuqueaalmapesava21gramas.Essevaloreraadiferençamédiaobtidaemumasériedemediçõesdamassadeumcorpovivoelogoapósaconstatçãodamorte.Amatériavidaentãoseriabemleve,maisoumenosopesodequatrofolhasdepapelsulfite.OlhoaspinturasdeBrunoKurruevejoascolagens,asimitaçõesdepapel,abrancurarabiscadadetrêsouquatroretângulospequenos sobrepostos para formar o todo, como se a superfície pintada, descontando o peso do canvas e do chassis, pesasse21gramas,comoseoatodepintarresultassenopesodavida.

Kurru segue as investigações existenciais adicionando a seu repertório de imagens - ao lado dos papéis decorados, dos pedaços de corpos, dos espelhos e labirintos, e das referências a filosofias orientais -signosdanossaconexãocomomundovirtual.Aestruturadecolagemdascomposiçõesadquireentãocamadas transparentes,representadaspeloquadriculadocinzaebrancousadopeloPhotoshop,ejanelasflutuantescommensagens de erro. Assim, o artista inclui nas suas telas amais recente ondametafísica da humanidade, nossavidaemrede,emconexãocomomundovirtual:“Aredepertenceaumpensamentometafísico.Elaapre-endeaomesmotempoocorpohumanohic et nunc eligaessecorpoaograndecorpodomundo:éumanoção bio-meta-física.”

Nodia-a-dia,olugarquearedecibernéticarepresentaéalgosimilaraumcosmosmisterioso,umcéuvasto e inacessível, para onde dirigimos nossasmensagens, como preces, e de onde espera-se receber uma resposta.Asfigurasolhamparaocéueparaateladocomputador.Procuramolugardavida,daconsciência, dentodocorpoquecontémtambémouniverso.“Applyconsciouness.exe”.

Quem faz as perguntas existenciais são as figuras pintadas por Kurru ou quem olha essas telas? Ora,secadapinturatemoutrapinturadentrodela,talvezquemolhaestejamesmoemumaoutrapintura,maior. Eassimsucessivamente.

The Material of Life

BrunoKurru’spaintingisinsideanotherpainting.Eachofthemconsistingofseveralpaintings.Thingsopen into smaller interiors that paradoxically refer back to thewhole. Instead of showingdetails, eachpart expands.Wearestuckinthisspirallabyrinth,withinwhichtheactoflookingcloselyhurlsonebacktovastness.Thewholeiswithinthepart,inaninversionofrationality,sendingusreelingintotheincomprehensible.Inoneofthepaintings,theuniverseemergesfromaholeintheasphaltthathasbeenopenedupbyabrushstroke.Thebodythatpaintstheholeisrepeatedonasmallerscaleontheedgeoftheabyss,arecurrentreplicationstrategyinthesepaintings,inthereflectionofamirror,orinaselfthatisdisjoinedfromthebodyandhollowsitout.Thesamesceneissometimespaintedtwice,containingaminiatureversionwithinitself.Knotinthought,liketheknotinthinkingaboutexisting.Or,aswrittenononeofthepaintings,subtitledlikeafilm,“howcanonereachthisstateofself-understanding?”. WhydoIseethedarkuniversewithbrightspotswhenIclosemyeyes?IfthereisaGod,isitinsideor outsideofme?Isthereabodilyorganforconsciousness?Inwhatdoesalivingbodydifferfromadeadbody?Whereisthematerialoflife? Intheearly20thcentury,apseudoscientifictheorysuggestedthatthesoulweighed21grams.Thisvaluewastheaveragedifference,obtainedfromaseriesofmeasurements,betweenthemassofalivingbodyandofsuchbody immediatelyafter the certificationofdeath. Life-material thereforewouldbevery light,weighingmoreorlessthesameasfoursheetsofplainpaper.IlookatBrunoKurru’spaintingsandseecollages,imitationsofpaper,thescribbledwhitenessofthreeorfoursmallrectanglesoverlappedtoformawhole,asifthepaintedsurface,takingawaytheweightofthecanvasandframe,weighed21grams,asiftheactofpaintingresultedintheweightoflife. Kurrucontinueshisexistentialinvestigationsaddingtotherepertoireofimages-alongwithdecoratedpapers, pieces of bodies, mirrors and labyrinths, and references to Eastern philosophies - signs of our connectiontothevirtualworld.Thestructureholdingtogetherthecompositionsthenacquirestransparentlayers, representedbythegrayandwhitecheckerboardusedbyPhotoshop,andfloatingerror-messagewindows.Thus,hispaintings includehumanity’smostrecentmetaphysical trend,ournetworked life inconnectionwiththevirtualworld:“Thenetworkpertainstometaphysicalthought.Atthesametime,itapprehendsthehumanbodyhic et nuncandconnectsthisbodytothegreatbodyoftheworld:itisabio-meta-physicalnotion. Inday-to-daylife,thelocusthatthecyberneticnetworkrepresentsissomethingofamysteriouscosmos,vastandinaccessibleheavenstowhichwedirectourmessages,likeprayers,andhopetogetaresponsefromthem.Hisfiguresarelookinguptotheheavensandatacomputerscreen.Theyaresearchingfortheplaceoflife,ofconsciousness,withinthebodythatcontainstheuniversetoo.“Applyconsciouness.exe”. Whoasks the existential questions? Thefigures painted byKurru or those viewing these paintings? Ifeverypaintinghasanotherpaintinginit,perhapstheviewerisinyetanotherpaintingthatisbiggeragain.And so on.
