• Over 900 research and development projects funded by
BSEE, since its inception in 1970 (originally Technology
Assessment Research (TAR)
• Yearly research budget of $11.2M (FY)
• Research projects for use in advancing BSEE’s regulatory
program
• Identify, initiate, fund and administer meaningful research

Purpose of Today’s Forum

• ETB projects will focus on: • Loss of Well Control Occurrence and Size Estimators;
• Wellbore Surveying Technology;
• Modeling Tool that Demonstrates Subsea BOP Stack/Seals
under Deep Water Loss-of-Well Condition; and
• Arctic Freeze-Up Studies.
• OSRR projects will focus on:
• Development of an ROV Deployed Video Analysis Tool for
Rapid Measurement of Submerged Oil/Gas Leaks;
• Development of Acoustic Methods to Measure Oil Droplet
Size and Slick Thickness on Remotely Operated Vehicle
(ROV) and Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV)
Platforms; and
• Estimating an Oil Spill Response Gap for the U.S. Arctic
Ocean.
