Memory

• There are two types of memory- Hard drive this is for long-term memory- RAM (Random Access Memory) this is for short-term memory

• This is what you need to save graphics and to keep them so you can view them again.

Storage

• You need storage to store your graphics on the Computer this is kind of like memory as it lets you store pictures and whatever else you store on your computer. (you store things on your hard drive). You need this to store the graphics on

Monitor

• The monitor is very important as it lets you look at the picture. If you have a bigger screen and higher resolution on your monitor the you get a better look at the picture and can edit it easier as you can see all the impurities.

Processer

• The processer is the CPU (central processing unit) this the brains of the computer it is the most important signal piece of the computer it is were most of the calculations are made and is in the heart of the computers.

• This is needed to make the computer work and to make it fast so it can keep up with the editing of graphics (the faster the processer is the better you can edit graphics)

Input devices• An input device is were you put it into the computer you get lots of

different types e.g.> scanner - this lets you scan a drawn image and turn it from a hardcopy to a softcopy you need this to get your drawings onto the computer, the better quality the scanner the better image you get> tablet – this is something you can draw on and it transfer it from a picture your drawing onto the computer whilst your drawing it, this is important as it dose the same as a scanner but takes less time> camera this is a thing you can take a picture and using ether a USB or something that reads a memory stick from a camera and transfer it onto the computer. This is important as you can take photos and then put them onto a computer instead of getting them printed and the scanning them onto your computer, if you have a better camera you would get a better image

Graphics card

• A graphics card is the thing that puts the picture onto the monitor and it processes the codes into the signals that the screen reads and the image is made. You need to have this to have the same resolution as the screen to get the best out of this and the screen

Types of graphic

• Vector graphic> Inkscape uses vector images> vector images are better for logo’s and graphics that need to be on lots of different size things

• Bitmap images> Photoshop uses bitmap images> Bitmaps are better if you need to make something very detailed that will only go onto on thing on size

• All in all I think that PhotoShop is better as it has a wider range of tools and of picture placement offers.

Bitmap v vector

Bitmap Vector• The advantages of vector images

are> smaller file size as only co-ordinates and colour are stored> can be made to any size without it pixcelating

• The disadvantages of vector images are> you get less detail in a vector image> you can’t have your own images

• The advantages of bitmap images are> that they have more detail than vector images> are better if you only want the to be one side

• The disadvantages of bitmap images are> the bitmap gets pixcelated when you blow it up> the file is a lot bigger to store as you have to store the pixcels as well as the colour

Pixelated bitmap image Non-pixcelated vector image
