Engagement with HE in summer 2017Around500studentsappliedtouniversitywiththenewBTECNationals(2016- RQF)forentryinautumn2017.

Consequently,inAugust2017,weemailed150HEinstitutionstoexplainthepatternofresultsforthenewBTECNationals(2016- RQF)comparedtotheBTECLevel3Nationals(QCF)tohelptoinformtheirdecisionsatConfirmationandClearing.

Inthiscommunication,we:

● gavethemahighlevelsummaryoftheoutcomesfortheexternalassessments

● providedthemwithalistofexternallyassessedunits ineachofthesubjectsbeingawardedthisyear

● encouragedthemtocompareperformancewithQCFBTECstudentsbyfocusingontheinternallyassessedunits

● indicatedthatwewouldprovidea‘notionalgrade’foranystudentswhoareapplyingtouniversitythisyearbutwhohadfailedanyoftheirexternalunits.

Supporting learners progressing to HE in autumn 2017Wesupportedschoolsandcolleges,whichhadstudentsprogressingtoHEwiththenewBTECs,by:

● writingtoallschoolsandcollegeswhosestudentshadcertificatedtheBTECNationals(2016)andappliedtouniversityforentryinautumn2017

● informing themofourengagementwithHigherEducationinstitutionsandthemessagesthatwehavesenttothem

● offeringsupportforanyoftheirBTECNational(2016)students,whohadappliedtoHEin2017,byengagingwiththespecificuniversitiestotheyhadappliedandensuringthattheyhadafullunderstandingofthequalificationoutcomes
