Why choose Public Services? All public service workers, whether they work in the armed forces, emergency services or a non-uniformed service have a range of personal, professional, communication and team working skills that allow them to deliver the best possible service to the communities that they serve. These skills are very wide ranging and include communication, teamwork, punctuality, pride in appearance, behaviour, discipline, problem solving, cooperation and conflict management. These skills are important in both the uniformed and non-uniformed public services but they are also skills that can be transferred into other areas of employment.
The public sector is a huge area of employment. Hundreds of different organisations make up the public sector and there are thousands of job roles within these organisations. Below are a few examples:

What will I get from this qualification? Year 12:
If you complete ALL your units you can achieve a;
Edexcel BTEC level 3 Certificate
You need to complete a minimum of 30 credits
Year 13:
If you achieved ALL of the units from Year 12 and Year 13 units you can achieve;
Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma
You need to complete a minimum of 60 credits
What does the course involve? Year ONE involves completing, ONE mandatory unit and optional units
resulting in 30 credits:
Mandatory Unit:
Unit 1: Government, Policies and the Public Services (10 credits)
Optional Units:
Unit 2: Leadership and Teamwork in the Public Services (15 credits)
Unit 5: Physical preparation, Health and Lifestyles for the Public Services (10 credits) or Unit 31: Exercise, Health & Lifestyles (10 credits)
Year TWO involves completing, THREE mandatory units and optional units resulting in 60 credits:

Calculation of credits achieved UNITS and OVERALL GRADES Depending on the grade you have achieved each unit carries a number of points scored per credit:

Depending on the Unit each Unit is allocated ‘Credit’ points, for example, Unit 2 carries 15 credits, so to work out overall points for this one unit, an example is below:

Once you have completed ALL of the other Units set, each Unit is then added up and based on your OVERALL grade for the certificate/subsidiary diploma:

BTEC LEVEL 3 PUBLIC SERVICES- CERTIFICATE/ SUBSIDIARY DIPLOMA.
WHAT IS A BTEC NATIONAL SUBSIDIARY DIPLOMA?
BTEC courses are designed to provide specialist work- related qualifications. They provide a preparation for employment and the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge which are transferable to both employment and further study.
Btec Level 3 Certificate in Public Services will be completed in year ONE, it is equivalent to on GCE AS Level and a minimum of 30 credits.
Btec Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Public Services will be completed in year TWO, it is equivalent to one GCE A level and a minimum of 60 credits.
ASSESSMENT There are no exams. The work is entirely assessed
by means of coursework assignments Pass – Merit - Distinction The assignments are marked by staff at the
school. This means that all the assessments are school based.
The deadlines for assignments will be set by the Teacher, it is imperative that you meet these deadlines, as extensions will not be allowed.
The course content is vocationally based; it is all about Public Services.

You need to be reliable, independent, have a good attendance, good at meeting deadlines and a good rapour with teachers/adults.
WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END OF THE COURSE?
• If you complete the first year it will give you an AS equivalent called BTEC National Certificate. (This will give you UCAS points for University)
• If you successfully complete the Subsidiary Diploma, this is an A level equivalent, this will also give you UCAS points for University. (but twice as many).
• You can also look at moving into employment and training in Uniformed Public Services.
