Grand Knight Charles Rozum Message Contact: radar8219 My Brother Knights, July came to a close with a bang. The Council picnic was held at the Castle Gardens pool on Sunday the 29th and we had a great turnout. Attendees enjoyed food, drink, the pool, and access to all of the play equipment. I would to thank Greg Knoph and his team for putting together a great family event. Prior to the August general meeting I received a call from our elected Chancellor Paul Schelor. Paul indicated to me that due to unforeseen family obligations he will be unable to complete his term as Chancellor. During the general meeting I took nominations for the position of Chancellor. Two members were nominated, John Miller and Dave Downey. I will be having a hand vote at the September meeting to fill the position of Chancellor. In addition at the August meeting, I had the honor to present checks to both our Seminarian James Bird and the winner of the Monaghan Scholarship, Emery Maher. Both James and Emery graduated from Dearborn Divine Child high school and both attained the rank of Eagle Scout (is it just me or are you seeing a pattern here too). James is attending Sacred Heart Major Seminary while Emery is going to attend Grand Valley State University. Congratulations men! August also brought a fundraising opportunity for the Council. Several members and I sold programs at the Selfridge Air National Guard base air show on Sunday the 20th. The event was arranged by Roy MacDonald and will bring the Council a $500.00 donation. Well done Roy! September is going to be a busy month around the Council, starting with the Father/ Son golf outing on the 10th. On Saturday the 16th we will be having a Half Way to St. Patrick’s Day party. There will be Irish music, corned beef sandwiches, and beverages for your pleasure. There is an Irish night at Comerica Park on Friday the 22nd with tickets going for $31.00 which include entry into the game and a t-shirt. Proceeds from the event go to support the St. Patrick’s Day parade which is held in downtown Detroit. We will also having a blood drive on Monday the 25th. The local blood supply is low and donors are desperately needed. So far we only have a few people registered and we need at least 25 to hold the event. There will be signup sheets in the front lobby. You never know the life you save my be your own. And last but not least we will be having a spaghetti dinner on the 27th from 5-7PM. Dinner will be buffet style with pasta, meat, salad, and a roll for $10.00 per person over 12. Upcoming events include the Special Olympics in Canton on October 1st, a MI Drive and recruiting table at St. Aidan’s on October 7 and 8 at all masses. Volunteers will be needed for this event. On Tuesday and Wednesday October 17&18 the St Vincent DePaul truck will be on site for clothing donations. The Prep bowl will be held on Saturday October 21 at Ford Field. This is a great event sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. Please take some time to see the many displays from the area Catholic schools and watch some outstanding football games. Tickets will be available at the Council. In closing, last month I issued a challenge to the membership to volunteer to keep the Council vibrant so I would like to give you some suggestions, Half Way to St. Patrick’s day party and the spaghetti dinner we will need volunteers to serve and clean up, donate blood, donate clothing to St. Vincent DePaul, collect and recruit at St Aidan’s on Columbus day weekend, recruit a new member, help with Bingo on Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday evenings, attend the Prep Bowl and support Catholic education just to name a few. Just a couple hours a month would go a long way. My Brother Knights,

July came to a close with a bang.

Both James and Emery graduated from Dearborn Divine Child high school and both attained the rank of Eagle Scout (is it just me or are you seeing

a pattern here too).

This year the Donne Gals supported the Monaghan Golf Outing with a foursome and a hole sponsorship. This event provided charity funds to The Miracle League, St. Christine’s Soup Kitchen and St. Leo’s Pantry.

We awarded the two Living Your Faith Scholarships at the annual picnic held at Castle Garden’s Swim Club on Sunday, July 31st. Our award winners, Gracielle Tubay and Laura Hureski, were both able to attend.

Regular monthly meetings will resume starting on the third Thurs-day of the month beginning September 21st. The first meeting we will begin working on the upcoming calendar of events, including our annual euchre tournament and Lenten bake sale.

If you are interested in joining the Donne Gals, please contact Julie Maher at [email protected] for information.

Respectfully submitted,Julie Maher, Corresponding Secretary
