GEAR CHECKGear Check will open at 5:15am and will close promptly at 10:00am.
Gear Check is located on the South Side of the race site. For security purposes,
you must have your bib number visible and pinned to the front of your torso to
gain access to the Gear Check area. In addition, participants will only be allowed
to bring one bag, no larger than 12in x 18in into the Gear Check area. Please be
sure to check the event website and pay attention to event communications as

To ensure a speedy drop off and retrieval process, attach your Gear Check Tag to
your bag prior to drop off. Your Gear Check Tag is the tear-off tag on the top of
your bib number. Beaded luggage ties are available at Packet Pick-Up to secure
your tag. Please do not check any valuables as we are not responsible for lost or
stolen items.
RESTROOMSRestrooms will be located next to Gear Check.
Please keep in mind that the 10K starts at 7:00am and the 5K starts at 8:15am.
Those participating in the 10K may need to step ahead in line to ensure that they
are in the start line area prior to the start of the event. We ask that 5K participants
kindly provide 10K participants the opportunity to step ahead of them in line to
use the restrooms when the 10K race start time nears. Thank you for your help in
ensuring everyone is able to start their respective distance on time.
B-TAG TIMING SYSTEMThe BTN Big 10K and 5K is using the Chronotrack B-Tag Timing System. The timing
system provides each participant with an accurate time from the start to the finish
line. Individual timing tags are affixed to the back of each bib number. Leave the
tags on the back of the bib number and wear the bib number on your front torso,
so that it is clearly visible on the outside of your clothing.
Please ensure the following in order to receive an accurate time:
• Race bib is clearly visible on the front of your torso
• Race bib is unaltered and unmodified (Do not fold or wrinkle)
• Race bib is pinned on all four corners
• Race bib is not covered by jackets, runner belts, water bottles, etc.

10K DETAILS10K Corral Staging
The 10K Start Corrals will open at 6am and 10K participants must be in their assigned
corrals by 6:45am. 10K bibs are black with a blue letter/number combination. This
letter/number corresponds to the corral you are assigned to for the 10K race start.
Corrals are labeled Corral A – Corral J. You are able to move back in the corrals,
to a later letter, but you are not able to move forward. For example, if you are bib
number D4001, you will start in Corral D. If you want to run with your friend who
is seeded in Corral H, you may start in Corral H with them, but they cannot start
in Corral D with you. The start corrals are located on Solidarity Drive just north
of the race site.
For those who have qualified for the Elite Start Corral, you will receive separate
instructions in your Bib Confirmation e-mail and when you pick-up your packet.
10K Race Start
The 10K start line will close once all 10K participants have crossed the Start Line. To
ensure all runners’ safety, runners arriving late to the start area will not be allowed

POST-RACE FANFESTEnjoy a beautiful morning on Chicago’s lakefront celebrating your 10K or 5K
finish with your friends and family at the BTN Big 10K FanFest.
MEDICAL SUPPORTThe main medical support station is located at the Finish Line of the event.
If you are in need of medical attention at any time before, during or after the
race, please look for personnel in red medical vests.
HYDRATION STATIONSThere are three Hydration Stations located along the 10K course and one
Hydration Station on the 5K course. Each Hydration Station includes: water,
Gatorade Endurance Formula and medical support. See the Course Map on
Page 10 for more information.
WEATHERThe event will be monitoring weather conditions closely to ensure the safety
of race participants. The average high temperature for July is 84 degrees
Fahrenheit with the average overnight temperatures in the upper 60’s.
Based on this forecast, participants should be prepared to slow down, adjust
their pace accordingly and be alert in case conditions deteriorate. We recom-
mend you always use caution when running in warm temperatures.

PREPARATION TIPS• Hydration: Drink to thirst. Drink enough fluids to maintain your baseline
body weight, but be aware of over-hydration. If you begin to gain weight
above your baseline body weight, you are drinking too much water and
depleting your sodium level. A condition known as “Hyponatremia” can
occur when there is a lower than normal concentration of sodium in the
blood. Sodium is a critical electrolyte that aids nerve and muscle function,
and helps to maintain blood pressure.
• Utilize both water and sports drinks (Gatorade) to stay hydrated and
maintain sodium levels.
• Pay attention to the weather forecast and dress for the appropriate weath-
er conditions.
• Study the course map and be aware of the locations of Hydration Stations.
• Plan to adjust your pace for the weather. A high race day temperature
will require more of your body’s energy and resources to maintain normal
function, so a slower pace than originally planned would be recommended
in order to get you to the finish line safely and without overheating.
EVENT ALERT SYSTEMThe Event Alert System (EAS) communicates the status of course conditions
to participants leading up to and on race day via e-mail updates, color coded
signs and flags. Alert levels range from Low (green) to Moderate (yellow) to
High (red) to Extreme (black) based primarily on weather conditions, as well
as other factors.
All participants should familiarize themselves with the Event Alert System prior
to the race, remain alert for directions from race officials throughout the event
and take precautions to prepare properly for varying weather conditions on
race day.

GETTING THEREThe BTN Big 10K, 5K and FanFest takes place in the Adler Planetarium parking lot,
on Solidarity Drive on the Soldier Field/Museum Campus. Please plan to arrive at
the race site no later than 5:45am if you are participating in the 10K and 7:00am
if you are participating in the 5K.
TAXI / RUNNER DROP-OFF LOCATIONSAll vehicles dropping off participants will be directed to the main museum campus
visitor entrance on McFetridge Drive or to the 18th Street Metra Drop Off. Vehicles
should exit Lake Shore Drive at McFetridge Drive or 18th Street.
BICYCLEParticipants are highly encouraged to ride their bicycles to the event. Bicycle parking
will be available. Please look for the signs directing you to the appropriate location.
PARKINGParking on the Soldier Field/Museum Campus is extremely limited and will fill
up quickly. Those parking on the campus should plan to walk up to a half mile
to the race site. Once Museum Campus parking is full you will be directed to
off-campus sites (1 mile from the race site). Allow sufficient time for traffic and
street closures.
Participants and spectators can park in
the Waldron and North Garages starting

HEALTHYCOMPETITION
ILLINOISIllinois’ Tim Beckman sees six of the
first seven contests at home—includ-
ing a tilt in Chicago. But it’s November
that could make or break the Fighting
Illini. Three of the five games are on the
road—but three games are winnable: at
Indiana; at Purdue; vs. Northwestern.
INDIANAIU has one of the toughest Big Ten
road slates possible: Michigan State,
Michigan, Wisconsin, and Ohio State.
It’s not crazy to think IU could start
3-0, setting up a huge visit from Mis-
souri. Indiana has three winnable home
Big Ten games (Minnesota; Illinois;
Purdue). Win six total games and IU
qualifies for its first bowl since 2007.
IOWAKeep an eye on the Sept. 28 trip to
Minnesota as this game could set tone
for Iowa’s season. Cross-over games
got appreciably more difficult, as the
Hawkeyes have picked up Ohio State
and Wisconsin—arguably the two best
teams in the Leaders Division.
MICHIGANSet up for a fast start, Michigan could
be 6-1 or 7-0 as it travels Michigan
State to start a five-game November
run as tough as any in the nation. It
features the Wolverines three toughest
Legends competitors in a row: at MSU;
Nebraska; at Northwestern.
MICHIGAN STATEThe schedule is pretty kind to a pro-
gram coming off a disappointing 7-6
season that saw MSU lose five games
by a combined 13 points. If the Spar-
tans can win at Notre Dame on Sept.
21, they could be 8-0 when they wel-
come Michigan on Nov. 2.
MINNESOTAThe Gophers open with four of the first
five games at home, and Minnesota
should be favored in each one. Min-
nesota could be 5-3 when it plays at
Indiana on Nov. 2. But a loss to the im-
proving Hoosiers would make getting
a sixth win very difficult.

BIG TEN FOOTBALL SEASON PREVIEW
NEBRASKAThings set up well for Nebraska, which
opens with five games at home. It
wouldn’t be a shock if Nebraska is 8-0
when it travels to Michigan on Nov. 9.
Nebraska’s eyes a return trip to the Big
Ten title game.
NORTHWESTERNMost every key component from last
year’s 10-3 team is back. Good, be-
cause this schedule is a doozy start-
ing with a trip to Cal and visit from
Syracuse. In cross-division games,
the Wildcats picked up Ohio State
and Wisconsin and lost Indiana and
Purdue. Still, NU could be 6-2 entering
November.
OHIO STATEOhio State should be favored in every
game but the season finale at Michi-
gan on Nov. 30. Ohio State also avoids
games with Nebraska and Michigan
State, which is nice for the Buckeyes.
PENN STATEThe Nittany Lions may be in for a long
season as the effects of NCAA proba-
tion begin to sink in. But Penn State
does open with four non-conference
games that all are winnable. No doubt,
a fast start and good health could pro-
duce another strong season.
PURDUEFirst-year coach Darrell Hazell has
arguably the toughest schedule in the
Big Ten. In non-conference, there is
a trip to Cincinnati and home games
vs. Notre Dame and Northern Illinois.
Getting one Big Ten road victory may
be really tough.
WISCONSINFirst-year coach Gary Andersen’s
schedule is built for success. The Bad-
gers should start no worse than 3-1
as they head to Ohio State on Sept.
28. From there the Badgers should
be favored in every remaining regular
season game in a quest for a fourth
straight Rose Bowl berth.
