BT Webtop 7Quick Reference Guide
This guide provides an overview of BT Webtop
7 and its most commonly used features.
BT Smartcard
A Smartcard is a combined passcard
and remote access card used in
conjunction with a BT Webtop 7 PC.
It allows physical access to BT buildings
and authentication for remote access to
the BT network, (replacing the ActivCard
token for remote access). You do not need a BT Smartcard if you
only ever connect to the network in a BT
building with a wired network.
The BT Smartcard needs to beenrolled
by you before it can be used.
Getting connected
BT Webtop 7 makes it easy to view andconnect to networks on your PC
wherever you go.
Just click the network icon on the
taskbar, or , then click on your
preferred option to connect to the
internet.
Home Wi-Fi and BTWifi (formally
Openzone) can be set to connect
automatically whenever in range.
BT Intranet and network services
For remote access to the BT Intranet
you will need to establish a Virtual
Private Network (VPN).
Insert your BT Smartcard into the Card
Reader, then click on the network icon
on the taskbar, or . Click on 'BT Intranet VPN' and then on
the Connect button that is then made
visible.
You will then be asked to enter your
Smartcard PIN number, after which the
VPN will connect.
Once connected simply remove your BT
Smartcard as there is no need to leave it
in the PC.
Installing applications
Applications can be installed from the
Software Catalogue, accessed via Start,
BT Control Panel, Manage My
Applications, Install an Application.

and browse the internet.
Anti-virus and other software will be
