 This is a new corporate identity for a new university

– a university that will continue to renew itself for every

succeeding generation of students and employees that

come here and make it something more than it has been

before, for people who will be more than they were

before they came here.

 This corporate identity has been designed to express

what we are and what we stand for. It has been

designed to stand out in the same way that we hope

we ourselves stand out.

Let’s be proud of it, and proud of what we are

achieving together.

The logotype is designed to convey strong,

positive messages about who we are and

what we offer.

The informal ‘Bucks’ expresses our

approach – open, purposeful, aspirational

yet not elitist. This is the natural shortened

form of Buckinghamshire. ‘new’ expressesour desire to constantly renew our thinking,

our courses and our research.

Our formal name is Buckinghamshire New

University; this is used on all formal, official

written communications. Bucks New

University is our trading name, being

friendlier and more accessible; in

marketing contexts, we may use ‘Bucks’

as a familiar shorthand.

In today’s crowded and noisymarketplaces, it is difficult and

time-consuming to build a single University

brand, let alone multiple sub-brands at the

same time. Sub-brands risk weakening

and diluting the main University identity. It

is expected that faculties and directorates

will use the standard branding approach

set out in this document. However, certain

sub-brands or logos may be allowed in

exceptional circumstances, and then only

with full involvement and approval from the

University’s Strategic Marketing &

Communications Directorate.

 At all sizes there should ideally be an exclusion

zone determined by the height of the ‘s’ from

bucks.

Minimum size for print

 The logo should not be reproduced

below 40mm in width.

 The logo should not be used below

 The logo recognises the exclusion zone of the bucks ‘s’ height.

 Alternatively, it may be positioned in the

lower right - the exclusion zone being the

same on top and sides but the exclusion

on the base edge 1.5 x ‘s’ height.

The following are examples of incorrect use of the logo. Please note, this is not an exhaustive list.

Do not reorder the elements of the logo.

Do not reverse the logo out of light colours - nor out of complex photographs.

Do not a lter the values of the tones . Do not reorder the co lours w ith in the rounde l.

Never re-type the text in another font. Don’t adjust the distance between the roundel and

typographic elements.
