The Buddha’s life

Born in Nepal he grew up in a palace with luxury

Predicted he would be a great king or a great holy man

Once out of the palace he saw four sights that changed his life

Sights – Sick, Old, Dead, Holy man

Four Sights

These sights made him consider a simple fact of life

Everything Changes and dies

No longer satisfied with his palace life he went to live as a holy man

Enlightenment He trained himself to go

without food and water

One night in deep meditation the Buddha faced all his fears and demons

He saw that the suffering was caused by desire

The three Universal Truths 1. Everything Changes

2. All People change

3. As a result there is suffering

The four Noble Truths

1. All Life involves suffering

2. The reason for suffering is craving

3. If the craving stops – so will the suffering

4. The Middle way
