New Registration Policy

Our online courses have been extremely popular. So much so that teachers continue to be shut out of them for lack of space. What we are noticing is that some teachers register and never show up to take the course or don’t complete it after starting it.

Teachers cannot register in PGS once the class is full and teachers on the waiting list will not be moved into the class because someone is occupying the spot.

In order to make the most of our budget I need to run full courses.

Starting February 25, 2019 session forward, anyone who registers for a course without withdrawing from the course within the first few days of the course will not be allowed to register for any upcoming Teacher Center classes for two (2) sessions. You will receive a warning from me, if you have (2) such registrations.

This policy was voted on by the Policy Board (the governing body) of the Teacher Center.

Be aware that unless you complete the online course with all assignments received by the due date, CTLE and District Credit will not be granted.

Echoes and Reflections Holocaust Education -Part 1 Online Course

This course will provide access to Echoes and Reflections. This website provides intensive Holocaust education and lesson plans that provide a unique experience for educators to teach about the Holocaust effectively and interactively. Lessons are organized by topics that represent major themes associated with the Holocaust in an order that is roughly chronological; the modular design of the lessons allows for adaption and customization to specific grade levels and subject areas. The integration of rich content in each lesson helps students construct an authentic and comprehensive portrait of the past as they frame their own thoughts about what they are learning, resulting in a deeper level of interest and inquiry. Each lesson includes: Step-by-step procedures, estimated completion time, resources labeled by icons to direct teachers to the piece of content named in the procedures, and print-ready pages available as PDFs for download.

PGS # 30841 Section # BTRC: Using the PBS Learning Media in your K-12 Social Studies Classroom

This has two sections, to better meet the needs of K-12 teachers. Each option has many resources to explore and customize for your classroom

Option #1 for Elementary Teachers Grades K-6: Discover exciting resources and methods for teaching social studies to students from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade in Elementary Social Studies. Students can practice making inferences as they explore animal shelters, research using the Great States series, or complete a graphic organizer to compare holidays with the All About the Holidays series. Topics ranging from the leadership of Abraham Lincoln to Neil Armstrong's first mission to the moon are covered in Elementary Social Studies. Option #2 for Secondary Social Studies Teachers Grades 7-12 Students will go beyond identifying the physical features of Earth to explore how humans interact with the world around them using resources in Geography. Students can study a comic book-like document to analyze how California rations water during a drought, or they can research the many ways climate change impacts humans across the globe. The economic impact of a changing environment is also analyzed in Yukon Kings and a series of resources on Mongolian Nomads. The tools used by geographers, from ancient maps to modern geographic information systems (GIS), vocabulary (what is a border?), and methods

of geography are also explored.

Increasing Civic Engagement in Your K-12 Classroom to meet the ESSA Guidelines (Online)

It is our responsibility as educators to provide students with a meaningful K-12 education that prepares them for competitive employment and civic participation. Civics education empowers students to make informed decisions that will create a better future. There is research and evidence that suggests that we are in a national civic crisis where most Americans are not civically engaged. This course will examine civics related resources to improve your instruction of civic engagement in your classroom.
