Walter passed away after a brief illness at the Peace River Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 63yrs Suzanne, his 3 sons Jeffery, Michael (Orysya) and Tom (Lucille) and his 6 grandchildren Laura, Jimmy, Simon, Emily, Samantha & Magdelina. He is also survived by 3 brothers: Bob, Ritchie & Ted and 2 sisters: Dorothy Fox & Barbara Stewart and is predeceased by his parents Cecil & Violet and brothers Barry & William. Walter was an accomplished athlete and won numerous championships & awards in Hockey, Golf & Curling. He was inducted into the Lethbridge Sports Hall Of Fame in 1986. He was also a successful businessman for the past 43yrs who gave generously back his community volunteering his time on numerous boards including the Peace River Golf & Curling Clubs, Kinsmen Club, Rotary Club and Chamber Of Commerce all of which he was a past president. He also sat on the board of directors for the AB Golf Assoc, IIBAA and the AB Driver Control Board. He travelled extensively and was an active, involved father who coached all 3 son's hockey and loved to take them golfing and curling among other activities. He will be missed by many, he was a true engaging friend. His keen sense of humour and quick wit are only surpassed by his enormous generosity as a loving husband and father. She is the loving mother of Fay (Sandy) Oakes of Coaldale and a cherished grandmother to Jason (Doreen) Oakes (and children Kailey & Lila) of Lethbridge and Kimi (James) Livingston of Black Falls, Alberta. She was predeceased by her son Toshi, brothers Tash, Naoto, Masao, Nup, Harpo and Kiyo, sisters Dori, Momoyo and Yaeko and parents Toyoki and Haru. Born in Vancouver, B.C. on January 13th, 1922 Fumi had her early education in Mission City, B.C., graduating from Mission High School in 1939. She went to the University of Alberta to train as a teacher in 1951. Fumi taught for two years in Picture Butte and accepted a position in Lethbridge in 1954. She continued to upgrade her education by taking summer courses in Calgary and Edmonton when she could. She earned her B Ed. Degree in 1966. She spent over thirty years as a teacher and thoroughly enjoyed her profession. She loved her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren as they were a very big part of her life. She enjoyed gardening and spending time at the Seniors Centre. Travelling with her family held many fond memories. She will be sadly missed. Born in Drenthe, the Netherlands, he immigrated to Canada in 1954. He was pre deceased by Ena, his loving wife of 57 years. Together they raised 6 children: Klaas (Deb) of Lethbridge and their children Jessica (Brian Cool), Laura (Dan Booy), and Brad (Nicole); Mike (Judy) of Edmonton and their children Stefan (Kimberly), Caitlin, and Genieva; Flo, of Edmonton; Allan (Betty) of Nobleford and their children Shelly (Jon Pfeffel), Matt (Alexandria), Scott (Chelsey Van Vaerenbergh), and Alyssa (Travis Tams); Grace (Mike Pool) of Vienna, Virginia and their children Jordan and Joel; Mel (Anita) of Edmonton and their children Kyria, Cameron, and Julia. In addition, he loved and was loved by an extensive extended family and numerous friends.
