On behalf of the students, faculty, and Trustees of Thayer Academy, I am

writing to you today to ask for your support of proposed renovations to

the Cahall Campus Center, the Richard Sawyer Athletic Center, and our

historic Main Building. On the pages which follow, we have enclosed plans

and drawings for the proposed renovations, which will be completed in two

stages during the summers of 2012 and 2013. In sum, the renovations will

provide:

• A Student Commons for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, located where the

Cahall Campus Center’s Tiger’s Den gym is now located;

• An exterior courtyard adjacent to the Student Commons for all members of our

community to enjoy;

• Multi-purpose space on the second floor of the Cahall Campus Center to

accommodate our wrestling program and social gatherings;

• An expanded technology center on the second floor of the Sawyer Athletic Center that

will serve as a training area for faculty and students;

• A gathering place for members of our senior class, with an adjoining College Counseling

Center on the lower level of Main;

• A more open Admission Office to welcome new members of our community;

• Upper School Administrative Offices and a seminar style classroom.

The estimated cost of these renovations is approximately $3.1 million and, I am very pleased

to be able to tell you that, as of the date of this writing, just over $2 million has already been

committed. Please consider adding your support now to help us reach our fundraising

goal and allow us to proceed with these important renovations which address academic,

athletic, and community needs.

If you have questions about the project or would like to discuss your support personally,

please do not hesitate to contact me or my Development Office colleagues and, on behalf

of my fellow Trustees and the students and faculty who benefit from your generosity, please

accept my sincere thank you.

Sincerely,

Ted KoskoresHEADMASTER

$2.3 million

At the same time that the Academy’s

Board of Trustees approved moving

ahead with the important projects

detailed in this brochure, it also

authorized the school to launch a $3.1

million capital campaign to raise the

necessary funds.

Because the projects recognize needs

that have been discussed for some time,

the initial response to fundraising efforts

has been particularly strong.

Already, generous members of our

alumni and parent communities have

contributed $2.3 million towards the $3.1

million campaign goal, but it will take

contributions - big and small - from all

members of our community to reach the

final goal.

If you have questions about our

campaign or would like to discuss your

gift in more detail, please contact us at

the numbers listed below.

THE CAHALL RENOVATION: CREATION OF STUDENT COMMONS & RELOCATION OF TIGER’S DEN GYM

The plan calls for adding a second floor over the

existing Tiger’s Den and relocating the functional

gym space to the second level.

The existing Tiger’s Den will be converted into a

new, supervised, multi-use gathering space for

freshmen, sophomores, and juniors.

This space will include academic lockers, tables

with informal seating, a snack bar, and a Campus

Store relocated from its current location on the

second floor of the Sawyer Athletic Center.

An exterior courtyard will be created adjacent to

the Student Commons for the enjoyment of all

members of our community.

Multi-Purpose Wrestling CenterAdding a second floor over the

existing Tiger’s Den will create

a new multi-purpose space that

will house our wrestling program

and community social gatherings.

Bathrooms will also be added to

the second floor of the Cahall

Campus Center.

I think it’s great that the renovation of Cahall is finally starting, even though I’m a little sad that I won’t be able to enjoy the new Commons area as a student!

the space will give students a great alternative to going to the library if they want to work on a project together.

Using space vacated by the

relocation of the Campus Store

to the Student Commons area,

a new technology center will

be located on the second floor

of the Sawyer Athletic Center,

overlooking Memorial Gym.

Designed to serve both faculty

and students, the technology

center will provide a

demonstration, testing, and

learning site for state-of-the-

art hardware and software

applications. The center will

offer classes, workshops, and

coordinated discussions to

foster collaboration among

students and faculty.

The center will also be the focus

of a new student leadership

program, under which Thayer

students will apply to become

Thayer Technology Fellows,

working as peer and faculty

advisors over a wide range of

issues to promote the use of

technology in the classroom

and beyond.

Admission Office & Upper School Administrative OfficesThe Summer 2013 scope of

work includes the renovation the

Academy’s Admission Office to

create a more open and welcoming

space for visitors and new members

of our community.

Also, with the College Counseling

Center relocated to the lower level of

Main, the space it formerly occupied

will be reconfigured to provide more

functional office space for the Upper

School administrative team, as well as

a new seminar-style classroom.

The BrickyardWith the completion of the Student

Commons for grades 9 through 11

in the summer of 2012, the existing

space on the lower level of Main (the

Brickyard) will be remodeled into a

space for members of our Senior Class.

This area will feature an updated Senior

Lounge, office space for the Senior

Dean and Senior Project Advisor, and

a new, adjoining College Counseling

Center. This project is being partially

funded by generous contributions

from the Class of 2012 Senior Legacy

project.

The new senior space will be amazing - Seniors will finally have a place all to themselves - no more sharing the Brickyard with juniors! - and with the college counseling office being right there, it’ll be perfect.
