EDITORIAL

From the Editor’s Desk...The last few months have been very enriching for DLF Foundation. • Scholars dream big with DLF Foundation as Government Model Primary School

Harola, Sector 5— one of the largest schools in Noida and 9 other Government Schools were upgraded under the integrated School Development Project of DLF Foundation.

• Hitaashee Bakshi, a scholar benefitted under DLF Foundation’s Golf Excellence Programme and brought glory as she bagged 1st place during the Hong Kong Junior Golf Championship under 13-14 years age category.

• Kartik Sawhney who is 100% visually impaired, is another scholar of DLF Foundation. He shared his journey of excellence—that took him from India to Stanford University, and beyond to Microsoft—with the children of Gurugram. He is the first Indian student with such disability, to have pursued Science in class XI and beyond.

• VISHWAS, a non-profit organisation, Sector 46, Gurugram, was supported by the DLF Foundation celebrated the World Disability Day by organizing an inclusive walk with over 300 participants.

• Under the ‘Sadbhavna’ programme, 20 undergrad students from remote areas of Jammu and Kashmir, visited Gurugram for a motivational and informational tour organised by Indian Army.

• DLF Foundation supported Deaf ICC T20 World Cup, 2018 that was organised, by the Deaf Cricket Society, India, and the Deaf International Cricket Council that was organised for the first time in India.

• Various strides were made for Sustainable Development as the first ever Road Safety High Level Conference in Gurugram was organised by DLF Foundation, along with Ministry of Road, Transport and Highway and UNITAR. Road Safety Action Plan for Gurugram was the main agenda of discussion during the conference.

• Another Solid Waste Management project was inaugurated at Silver Oaks Condominium Association (SOCA), DLF Phase 1 under the aegis of DLF Foundation, along with Municipal Counsellor of Ward 34.

• A Senior Citizens Rejuvenation Centre has been set up at Community Centre, DLF Phase III, by the DLF Foundation, in collaboration with Dignity Foundation.

• CGS Hospital, Charitable Trust under DLF Foundation, has been awarded as ‘The Best Animal Hospital of the year 2018’ at an award ceremony as a part of ‘The Worldwide Achievers Healthcare awards and summit 2018’, held in New Delhi.

• A Computed Tomography (CT) Ophthalmology Unit was inaugurated at CGS Hospital DLF Phase 3, Gurugram. Ms. Shubha Mudgal, the famous Hindustani Classical Singer gave a mesmerising performance at the inaugural event.

DLF Foundation was felicitated with: Gold Award for CSR-2018 by Honorable Chief Minister of Haryana, Shri Manohar Lal Khattar, at Haryana CSR Summit 2018, held at Gurugram. DLF Foundation also received the ‘ET NOW CSR Initiative of the Year Award 2018’ by a Real Estate Firm.

A DLF Foundation initaitive:Government Schools in Noida Upgraded

With a goal to upgrade 20 government schools in three phases, the DLF Foundation

has revamped 10 Government schools, including one of the largest schools—Government Model Primary School, Harola, Sector-5, Noida—under its Integrated School Development Project, impacting 3096 students in the first phase. The schools were inaugurated by Shri BN Singh, District Magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar. The occasion was graced by Senior Officials of DLF, Teachers and Community members.

Aimed at improving the quality of education at these government schools, amenities like Child Resource Centre, Creation of ICT Room & Library, installation of water cooler, separate toilets for boys, girls and teachers, whitewash of the school, Green boards for classrooms, provision of benches and desks for students, PA systems, Library, Swings, Horticulture in school campus have been introduced.

The second phase of this development will focus on upgrading the digital infrastructure of the schools by setting up of digital classrooms and English language labs. To make learning more interactive and efficient, teachers would be provided vocational training in order to use the digital content and facilitate activity based learning. A programme of sports for health and de-stressing will be introduced. DLF Foundation has also undertaken various other initiatives under their Talent Nurturing Programme, like scholarship and counselling support; support to primary schools for their underprivileged and their remedial education in over 20 government schools.

the standard of education in government schools in Noida. We realised that we would need the support of organisations like DLF Foundation who not only have the resources to help bring this change but are also willing to work towards it. I would also request the school authorities to provide opportunities to as many children in the locality to get education in the school which will help them become the contributing members of the society. I would also request the school authority to augment DLF Foundation’s efforts and also maintain the amenities provided.

Ms. Kiran Bala, Principal, Government Model Primary School, Harula, Sector 5, Noida thanked the DLF Foundation for their support and acknowledged the efforts of the Foundation in the upgradation of education facilities in our school like WASH Kits, BaLa (Building as Learning Aid) Arts, Sports Kits so that every child has access to sports, Computer Lab, Library, in addition to the upgradation of the school infrastructure, provision of learning aids and training to teachers and workforce. The Wash Model programme will also have a larger impact on the quality of education in the school. We will ensure that all the facilities provided by DLF Foundation will be well taken care of by the teachers and students. We are committed to make our school a model school of Uttar Pradesh that other will emulate.”

While delivering his speech on DLF Vision for Integrated School Upgradation Program, Maj Gen KVS Lalotra, AVSM, YSM, SM (Retd), Sr. ED and head (Education), DLF Foundation said: “Our main objective is to improve the quality of education in selected 20 Government schools in Noida by supporting the Principal and school team to bring improvement in scholastic and co-scholastic domains of education. Our interventions are targeted at upgrading academic standards and learning outcomes. The aim is to to nurture educated, skilled and morally upright generations who are employable, useful and productive citizens”.

“We are working to achieve this by establishing Digital Classrooms for delivery of quality education, capacity building of teachers, support students with remedial classes and start English proficiency programme. We will also start Hobbies and Vocational Training Programme in some of the Senior Secondary schools. Sports programme for health and distressing and identify sporting talent for further nurturing, would also be given attention.”

DLF Golfers Shine: Hong Kong Junior Golf Championship

The objective of the foundation’s Golf Excellence Programme is to enable budding golfers to realize their full potential and bring laurels to

the country at national and international level. Under the program, the Foundation selected 10 junior boys and girls in the age group of 12-18 years, and gave scholarship to help the young golfers to meet thier requirements for their fitness, proper nutrition, training and travel.

One of these scholars, Hitaashee Bakshi, brought laurels when she bagged the 1st position in the under 13-14 category of The Hong Kong Junior Golf Championship, held at Discovery Bay Golf Club in Hong Kong. Approximately 60 juniors from 8 countries had participated in the Championship. Kartik Sharma and Sunhit Bishnoi, also DLF Foundation’s scholars stood 2nd & 3rd respectively in the 15-17 years category of the tournament.

6 juniors from DLF Golf Excellence club played in this year’s championship and were accompanied by Akhil Nayyar, a senior professional at DLF Golf Academy.

While complimenting and commenting on the success of the Indian juniors golfers, Dr. Vinay Sahni, CEO, DLF Foundation congratulated Hitaashee Bakshi, Kartik Sharma and Sunhit Bishnoi for their podium performance in their respective categories. He also complimented the coaches and officials of the DLF Golf Academy, Gurugram who are putting in considerable effort to groom Indian Juniors Golfers of international standard. The DLF Foundation is

committed to nurture talent and provide young up-coming golfers the resources and facilities and coaching by international coaches to excel in international golf championships.

The Hong Kong Junior Golf Championship was organized by Hong Kong Golf Association which was formed in the year 1968 and runs the international and domestic golf events in the country including Hong Kong Open which is the city’s oldest professional event.

Live Life KING SIZE - Kartik Sawhney Inspires the children of Gurugram

Kartik Sawhney, a DLF Foundation scholar who is 100% visually impaired, believed in himself and his capabilities and went on to become the

first visually impaired student to pursue science for the higher secondary level. Then, with the support of DLF Foundation and DLF Raghvendra Scholarship, went on to graduate from the Stanford University. Sawhney is now employed at Microsoft as IT Engineer in Seattle.

It was a moment of great joy and pride for the students of Summer Fields School, Gurugram when Kartik Sawhney visited their school and interacted with them. He was honored by DLF Foundation for his achievements and accomplishments.

Sharing his journey with the children Kartik expressed “I once met Honorable APJ Abdul Kalam who told me “You don’t need vision but a vision”. His words till today have been with me and have helped me fight all the odds. Initially, when I decided to take up science it was very difficult, at times I felt that maybe I have made a mistake to study science because at that point of time no facilities were available for a person like me to study the subject after 12th. However, my parents and their attitude that I will live and do everything that a normal child does helped me overcome all the obstacles and achieve my dreams.”

Kartik is a trained Hindustani classical vocalist; he has performed for the former Presidents of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, President of Austria, Princess of Thailand, besides other eminent musicians such as Pt. Ravi Shankar, A.R. Rahman, and Usha Uthup.

GURUGRAMODYA: GURGAON REJUVENATION PROJECT

Towards a Safer Gurugram

A total of 413 persons die every day in 1,317 accidents in India. An

astounding 52,400 Indian motorists are killed every year, representing 35% of all deaths on Indian roads, followed by 15,746 pedestrians (11%) and 2,528 cyclists (2%).

Gurugram registers 50,000 motor vehicles every year which is higher than any other city in India. Considering these statistics, DLF Foundation, as a founding member of Safer Roads for Gurugram, and with a vision to make Gurugram roads safer, partnered with Ministry of Road, Transport and Highway and UNITAR, in addition to partners including Government of Haryana, AB InBev, CSIR-Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI), Apollo Tyres, the Indian Road Safety Campaign (IRSC), the Safe Road Foundation (SRF) and together they organized first ever conference in Gurugram - ‘Road Safety High Level Conference’ to discuss on road safety action plan for Gurugram. The conference aimed to facilitate healthy discussions on effective solutions for reducing road traffic and related deaths; empower government officials with technical know-how and management skills to implement interventions that improve road safety; mobilize stakeholders from different sectors to support road safety interventions in the City of Gurugram.

Col. Prakash Tewari, Executive Director (CSR), DLF Ltd, while addressing the conference said, “Road Traffic injuries lead to maximum deaths worldwide and have unrivalled health and socio-economic implications on the society. We are glad to extend our support in making Safer Roads for Gurugram initiative a roaring success.”

Mr. Dhanpat Singh, Additional Chief Secretary, State of Haryana Transport Department, said, “I am extremely thankful to UNITAR, DLF Foundation, AB InBEV and all partners of Safer Roads for Gurugram initiative to organise this conference. It is important to understand that it’s a grave situation as around 5 lakh road accidents happen every year in India and is a cause of deaths of approx 1.5 lakh people. Transport Authorities need to come up with stringent policies and guidelines with orientation and training in the areas of driving skills, medical checkups and mental assessment.”

DLF Foundation organized a conference on ‘Sustainability, Mobility in Gurugram’ as part of Gurgaon Rejuvenation Program. They even signed an MOU with International Organizations and formed the Working Group for Safer Road for Gurugram with various Corporate, International Organizations, Government Institutes and Officials of Gurugram. A series of activities were conducted by the Working Group to make Gurugram roads safer.

The outcome of the conference included:

• ‘Multi Stakeholder Action Plan’, including some of the key recommendations to tackle road traffic related deaths in Gurugram.

• ‘Road Safety Learning and Partnership Platform’, supporting countries to design and implement systematic, recurrent and results-oriented road safety learning.

• ‘Data Dashboard for Gurugram’, which is a tool that serves to monitor data related to road traffic crashes, was introduced to the participants at the conference.

• 10 black-spots have been identified based on impact based assessment that would be presented to the stakeholders of the Haryana Government with a focus on possible strategies to reduce the risks at the hazardous locations in Gurugram city.

Solid Waste Management Project

DLF Foundation along with Municipal Counselor of Ward 34, Mr. R S Rathee inaugurated Solid Waste Management (SWM) project at Silver Oaks Condominium Association (SOCA), DLF 1.The initiative of this pilot project is to reduce solid waste dumped at the Central Bandhwari Plant by 15000 kg a month. It is

also expected to convert 500 kg of waste into compost daily. The plant, operational for the last 15 days, has already produced approx. 700 kg of compost. Apart from the installation of the solid waste management project, the resident’s awareness programs with residents had great results with 80 percent waste segregated during their pilot run.

Dr. Vinay Sahni, CEO, DLF Foundation, said, “Our solid waste management will definitely help in the better sanitation in the area. Waste disposal is a pressing issue for our society. It was really motivating to see the residents taking initiative to segregate the waste. We shall further continue to manage waste within the premise to strengthen our green Initiative.”

Senior Citizens Rejuvenation Centre

With an endeavor to reduce loneliness and enhance the skill sets of members post-retirement in our society DLF Foundation in a joint initiative with Dignity Foundation, came up with the Senior Citizen Rejuvenation Centre at Community Centre, DLF Phase 3.

The centre conducts recreational activities for senior citizens to help them get out of humdrum of their retired lives and socialize. It hosts a plethora of activities like Tai Chi and Yoga, laughter club, spiritual lectures, aerobics, quiz and games, birthday celebrations, panel discussions, hobby and craft classes, festival celebrations, quarterly outings and the like for the recreation and enrichment of elderly people.

Dr. Vinay Sahni, CEO, DLF Foundation, said, “This is a great initiative and the activities will not only entertain the senior citizens but will help us meet new people. It is a step towards a holistic well-being of senior citizens.”

Sh. Yashpal Yadav, Commissioner, MCG, said: “I am thankful to DLF Foundation and Dignity Foundation for inviting me. The society we belong to, can never be so disrespectful to our elder citizens. Unfortunately, we have come to a phase where we are taking such steps to protect senior citizens. However, I am happy to see if one section of the society has failed to fulfill their duties the other section has taken them more responsibly. All the people sitting in this room have not only taken this initiative but are also motivating others to follow this path and help our senior citizens. I congratulate the Foundation for this initiative and will be happy to serve this cause as an individual and as a commissioner of MCG.”

The CT scan machine for pets with the price of 2 Crore will be first in India. The new machine will make the surgical approach easier and reduce the surgical time. With the help of this, the levels of canine and feline cancers could be better recognized. Also, it could prove to be helpful in cases of injuries.

The inauguration was followed by a mesmerizing performance of Shubha Mudgal, the famous Hindustani classical singer. Shubha Mudgal sang some of her well-known songs like ‘Seekho na naino ki Bhasha piya’ which left the audience spellbound.

The new ophthalmology unit will help to treat eye-related ailments including cataract which has become common in dogs. In India, the treatment is currently not available. CGS Hospital is a part of Charitable Trust under DLF Foundation, the philanthropic arm of DLF Ltd.

Shubha Mudgal, an ardent pet lover said “I have two pets and CGS hospital and its team have given them the best of the care. In fact, one of my pet was very serious a month back and his life was saved by Dr. Mahendran and his team at CGS hospital. I will always be thankful to them for this. My pets love to visit CGS hospital and apart from having the finest of the infrastructure and services, has a very warm human touch which makes it different. “

DLF FOUNDATION

Deaf ICC T20 World Cup 2018 was organised for the first time in India by

the Deaf Cricket Society India and the Deaf International Cricket Council. The seven day tournament took place at the Teri Gram Cricket Grounds of Gurugram starting from November 23rd. DLF Foundation was one of the supporters of the event.

Teams from Australia, South Africa, Nepal, Sri Lanka and India participated in the contest. The Sri Lankan team won the tournament defeating India by 36 runs in the final. Australian cricket legend Brett Lee attended the match on November 30th as Guest of Honour and awarded trophies and certificates to the winners and runners up of the tournament and mementoes to the Captains and team members.

Cricket with a DifferenceIn spite of the hurdles and complications involved in working with disability, the team strongly believes in being an example of excellence and slowly building up the prominence of deaf cricket in India.

CGS Hospital, part of Charitable Trust under DLF Foundation has been awarded as ‘ The Best Animal Hospital of the year 2018’ at an award ceremony held in New Delhi recently. The award ceremony was the

part of The Worldwide Achievers Healthcare awards and summit 2018, aimed at felicitating organizations and individuals for their contributions to the industry by innovating for increased efficiency and improved performance of healthcare delivery at large. The award wasreceived by Dr. Salisha Correia, Dr. Vaibhav Bishnoi and Dr. Shriram Ganesan on behalf of CGS Hospital.

CGS is a state of the art veterinary hospital, situated in DLF Phase 3, Gurugram. Spread over an area of more than one acre, CGS Hospital on average, treats around 100-150 patients in a day and 5-6 surgeries are performed by the hospital day after day. The hospital has patients coming from various far-off cities like Patna, Indore, Assam and even South India. The hospital is also equipped with a separate OPD for cats. A window clinic of the hospital is functional at Paras Downtown Centre on the Golf Course Road.

Dr. Samar S. Mahendran, Director, CGS Hospital said, “It is an honor to receive this prestigious award. CGS Hospital aims to provide best care and treatment to the pets. Heart and kidney diseases are common in pets therefore there is a need to provide them quality healthcare treatment. We have also inaugurated a computed tomography (CT) scanner and ophthalmology unit for healthier treatment of pets which will help us serve them in a better way.”

“Disability has no bounds and limitations if our vision to succeed is firm.”

VISHWAS, a nonprofit organization, Sector 46, Gurugram in support with DLF Foundation organized an Inclusive walk in Gurugram to mark the World Disability day. The 1 km Inclusive walk with more than 200 participants was flagged off from Horizon Plaza, Golf Course Road.

The participants included 120 children with disability and representatives from various other organizations. The walk culminated at the Dell office, Golf Course Road that was followed by cultural programs. Vinay Sahni, CEO, DLF Foundation emphasises, “As a responsible society, there is a need to come together and create an Inclusive ecosystem. This walk was aimed to come together and raise awareness and sensitize people towards persons with disability”.

Kshitij, one of the young participant in the walk says, Disability is not inability and that is the message that we want to spread. We all are here today to celebrate World Disability Day with a message that everyone has the right to access basic health care, education and livelihood options irrespective of disability, gender, class or caste.

The annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons was proclaimed in 1992, by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3. The observance of the Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.

Operation “Sadhbhavna”: Undergraduate Students From J&K Visit DLF Foundation

An informational and motivational tour of 20 undergrad Students from remote areas in Jammu & Kashmir under the aegis of the

Indian Army’s ‘Operation Sadbhavana (Goodwill)’ visited the DLF Foundation’s office, Gurugram, for the first time. They were accompanied by Major Amit Kumar and 3 of their teachers. The Students visited the Foundation to interact with the officials to explore career prospects in the corporate arena. The top officials shared their valuable insights on the job market and facilities in Gurugram. The objective of this visit was to exhort the students who come from remote and disturbed areas in Jammu & Kashmir to get first-hand feel of the corporate culture. The visit to the millennium city also aimed at spreading a message about the bonafide efforts being undertaken by the Army to make the youth of the region confident and job ready.

Col. Prakash Tewari, Executive Director, DLF Foundation mentioned that the purpose of this visit is to counsel these students about the opportunities in the job market and take the right approach to increase their value in the competitive sphere. We hope that this session would encourage students to explore employment opportunities in various fields pertaining to their individual interests.”

providing equal opportunities. Indian Army’s initiative is a truly special one and we are elated that they chose us for the same. These young, bright students have not had the exposure they deserve to make wise career decisions. We hope that this program motivates them in the right direction and these students can make a good life for themselves.”

Khalidah Khan, Student, Govt Degree College Kupwara, said, “I am very thankful to Indian Army for this tour and DLF Foundation for giving us the opportunity to visit their facilities and sharing insights on development in Gurugram city. We are hopeful that the knowledge we are taking from here will help to be confident and become productive members of society.”
