the screen, then disappear after a few seconds. • Read it very carefully and quickly, then write it

down in your notebook. • When you hear the sound of a typewriter, the

next part of the sentence is ready for you to read and write down.

Malala is an independent voice

in a country riddled with violence

directed at promoting conformity.

However, the Taliban’s banning of girls’ education

in Pakistan in 2009

did not stop her from desiring to learn

or from openly speaking out against the prohibition.

And for that, she was shot.

In 2009,

at the height of the Taliban controversy in Pakistan,

Malala was chosen to lend a human voice

to a very inhumane struggle,

and she began privately blogging

for the BBC

with the hope that her small voice

would be powerful enough to reach the masses.
