Bulgari, bellissimo: Good thing the new Bulgari boutique on Union Square clocks in at 13,000 squar

eet.

Because every inch was needed Tuesday when a stylish scrum swarmed this elegant emporium to welco

Bulgari Vice Chairman Nicola Bulgari.

This is amazing. There's caviar, vodka and a beautiful store opening," enthused Julie de Baubigny . "

eels like 2007!"

Heck, there was even that almost extinct relic from the glory days: a personalized Bulgari luggage tag gu

gift.

Perhaps in gratitude for this reminder of the luxe life, Nicola Bulgari (suave, urbane and impeccably

urned out) was swarmed like a rock star by 600 fans and longtime friends, including Lucy Jewett, Ka

Pomeroy  and Denise Hale.

Bulgari at her home.

Protocol Chief Charlotte Shultz, adorned in a gold Bulgari parure given to her by her husband, forme

Secretary of State George Shultz, recalled another dinner in Rome where she was delighted to find

herself seated next to Bulgari.

We had so much fun that Nicola said he was going to send me something," said Charlotte, laughing at

memory. "And I thought, 'Oh, goodie.' When the package arrived, it turned out to be a book on the hist

of Bulgari. But it's a wonderful book."

Hornin' in: Hepcats swooned to the sounds of the SFJazz Collective on Wednesday at a musical

hootenanny hosted by Nicola Miner and her husband, SFJazz Board member Robert Mailer

Anderson.

This good-time gang of jazz lovers is in the midst of a stellar season. And that beat continues on May 8

he SFJazz Happenings gala, which honors the coolest of cats, vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson.

Abbondanza: A bounty of good cheer and piles of delectable prosciutto caused traffic jams in the aisle

of Il Fornaio last week, where the Museo Italo Americano Museum held its annual Pasta Cook-Off Cont

The spirited soiree raised $35K for the museum, which this year celebrates its 35th anniversary. And

guests got an epic, multicourse meal whipped up by celebrity chefs.

Digging into yet another platter of toothsome pasta, Italian Consul General Fabrizio Marcelli  joked: "

ust hope nobody is on a low-carb diet tonight."
