Real Love – For BlackMen

By Torre M.JohnsonSr.

We, as Black men, must learnto celebrate ourselves by cele-brating each other’s mission’s.We should combine our hopesand goals so that all will sup-port each brother.

We, as Black men, must be again taught the im-portance of community, the building process as ateam and that being competitive without suc-cessful achievements is ridiculous. We must alsobe taught again that being only referred to as aking without royal duties means nothing.

We, as Black men, need to sit aside our selfishegos so that our families can each grow.

We must stop pretending we as one can do it

all.We must stop ignoring the real causes of our

pains and work towards eliminating the blamegame.

We as Black men must stand up and get inplace. We have to recognize we are falling be-hind as others continue to climb. We must cele-brate life at a level higher than death. We mustpromote the need to constantly learn by contin-uously educating ourselves.

We as Black men are supposed to be the firstprotector of the Black woman and child, so Iwonder why we do not become upset and rallyin large crowds when a brother kills a brother.

Why, do we as black men, do nothing to ensurethat it stops?

We as Black men must stop sitting on the bot-tom having the conversation as if we were on

top. We must shake our self-curse and allow ac-tion to work. Most of us have love and respectfor each other. I search daily for better.

Then we have some hanging on to communitypositions, doing nothing but eating. They are ig-noring the statistics and the lack of long termaccomplishments. They are ignoring those manybrothers that are still receiving those longprison sentences.

We as Black men must do something now, fortomorrow waits on no one.

When tomorrow arrives, sorrow will not beexcused for failure.

Today is the day we must overcome the key toour success REAL LOVE…

Despite Blackand White menbeing the sameweight and height, people perceiveAfrican-Americansas physically moredangerous, a newstudy finds.According to the report,

Black men are viewed astaller, more muscular andheavier. The study was published

in the American Psycho-logical Association’s Jour-nal of Personality andSocial Psychology (APA).

It found that participantswho were not African-American believed Blackmen were more capable ofphysical harm than Whitemen despite being thesame size.“Black men tend to be

stereotyped as threateningand, as a result, may bedisproportionately targetedby police even when un-armed,” a synopsis of thestudy reads. “Here, we found evi-

dence that biased percep-tions of young Black men’sphysical size may play arole in this process.”In a statement published

to the APA’s website, evenBlack participants dis-

played this bias. The dif-ference was that they didnot find Black men to bemore harmful or deservingof force.“We found that men with

darker skin and morestereotypically Black facialfeatures tended to be mostlikely to elicit biased sizeperceptions, even thoughthey were actually nolarger than men withlighter skin and lessstereotypical facial fea-tures,” said lead authorJohn Paul Wilson, PhD, ofMontclair State University. “Thus, the size bias

doesn’t rely just on aWhite versus Black groupboundary. It also varieswithin Black men accord-ing to their facial features.”Researchers noted that

in the wake of today’s ten-

sion between police andpeople of color, the physi-cal size of those killed be-comes pushed to theforefront.“Unarmed Black men are

disproportionately morelikely to be shot and killedby police, and often thesekillings are accompaniedby explanations that citethe physical size of theperson shot,” Wilson said.“Our research suggeststhat these descriptionsmay reflect stereotypes ofblack males that do notseem to comport with real-ity.”--Article courtesy ofebony.com

No longer can a nation full ofprejudice and racism causeblack men to become discour-aged. It is time for apprecia-tion, admiration and respect. There is no better way to

embrace this time than to ap-preciate the hands we standon: our black men.

Society fails to take the timeto address black men as morethan just a group but multipleindividuals. There are moredifferent shades of brown thanI can count and as many dif-ferent men who wear thoseshades. There is not just one black

man. However, a singular, stereotypical bad reputationseems to follow them all.Black men are either too

much or never enough. Soci-ety sees black men as dys-functional, violent, hypersexual and uneducated. These outdated stereotypesneglect the depth of the livesof American black men, whohave many roles—fathers, husbands, mentors and com-munity activists.Of course, we must not
