Information packs are available from the School Office Nominations close at 12 noon on Thursday 3 September 2020 Rata Roa is the current Student Trustee As we move into the second half of Term 3, it is a great time for our senior students (Year 11-13) to spend a few minutes to take stock of the year to date. Yes – the year has been disrupted for us all and compromises have had to be made to support the health and wellbeing of all in the country, however, it is important that all students are aware of progress to date and what is still required. I would also urge these students to talk to their teachers if they have any concerns or questions about their progress. Next week, the five Buller schools and three Early Childhood Education Centre's (ECEs) will be combining for a COLFace Week. This is the first time that we will be hosting this event where our school and ECE staff get together for workshops over the week. This is an opportunity for staff across the education system in Buller to meet and collaborate. We are also lucky enough to have Dr Mere Berryman as a guest speaker on the Tuesday. Dr Berryman is a Director of Poutama Pounamu, a programme promoting excellence, equity and belonging, which all schools in Westport are currently involved in. We are looking forward to her arrival next week. Unfortunately, we have had to postpone our annual Open Night. The evening is a highlight for the school and a chance to meet new parents and students. This opportunity to promote our school and its facilities will be re-timetabled for the future. This timing will depend on the alert level our school and community is working under. Some school and coast events are now underway. The health and safety of all students and staff remains a priority and these events are taking place with this in mind. Whilst we want all students to enjoy extracurricular events, they are a privilege and as such, students must behave and attend to a satisfactory standard to be available to be selected for these events. Regular reminders have been provided to students and families regarding attendance. High attendance has the biggest influence on school success. We expect all students to attend each day, however, if a child is away, this needs to be accompanied by a valid reason. Attendance of at least 90% is the guideline for being selected for trips and events, including the ball. This has not changed since last year. We look forward to your continued support regarding attendance. Shortly, the school will have a Well-Being Clinic available for all students on a Friday lunchtime. The services will include general health concerns, emergency contraception, pregnancy testing and sexually transmitted infection screening and treatment. This will be by appointment only and staffed by Lynley Pratt from the West Coast District Health Board. As we move into the second half of Term 3, it is a great time for our senior students (Year 11-13) to spend a few minutes to take stock of the year to date. Yes – the year has been disrupted for us all and compromises have had to be made to support the health and wellbeing of all in the country, however, it is important that all students are aware of progress to date and what is still required. I would also urge these students to talk to their teachers if they have any concerns or questions about their progress.

  • Our Plan for Level 2 at Buller High School

Key points: It is safe for students to be at school.

If a student or a member of the household are self-isolating, waiting for a COVID19 test result, or

    ill, please stay home.

We want to emphasise our support for all students to stay home when they are unwell. By doing

this, students and parents are protecting our school community and we appreciate this. Do not

hesitate to contact us if you require support in this process.

    Hygiene

Washing and drying hands is our most important defense.

Hand sanitiser will be at the entry to classrooms and shared spaces like the Gym and Hall.

Soap, water and paper towels are in all bathrooms.

Students are encouraged to bring drink bottles from home.

Students should not share their drink bottle, phone, or other personal items.

    Social Distancing at School

Students should be far enough away from each other so that they are not breathing on, or

touching each other. Management of some classes might operate differently, for example, in

    Physical Education or Drama.

    Contact Tracing – QR Code

Keep a record of who you are in contact with and where you have been.

The School’s QR code poster for NZ COVID tracing is located on the front door to the main office

entry and on the counter at the school office.

    Masks

Masks are not required to be worn at schools at Alert Levels 2 and 3. However, families are

encouraged to include masks in their home emergency kits. This is a precautionary measure

issued by the Ministry of Health.

    Communication

Buller High School will follow the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education and the

    Ministry of Health.

As more information is received, we will share it with our community.

  • IMPORTANT TIME CHANGE - MONDAY 24 August 2020

Parents are advised that in order for staff to undertake a Personal Development Workshop, classes will finish at 1.25pm. The buses will run on a normal timetable and bus students are expected to stay at school where they will be supervised until normal bus times, unless parents make alternative arrangements. Parents should notify the School Office of any such arrangements.

Classes for all students will resume as usual on Tuesday 25 August.

CAREERS OF THE FUTURE: PROFESSIONS OF TOMORROW

Many jobs are under the threat of being automated, especially the repetitive and boring ones. Most at risk are those jobs where their tasks could be done by machines or robots. With the constant innovation and major strides being made in technology, a large part of the workforce will have to retrain for new jobs that will arise — some of these new professions might seem odd. Below are 42 jobs that are expected to arise in the near future:
