No Substitute The Christian community plays an important role in the life of discipleship because this community is nothing less than the body of Christ in the world today. It is among brothers and sisters in faith that we: • experience the presence of Jesus Christ, living and incarnate; • come together for worship, confess our sins, hear the gospel and receive Communion; • accept church discipline through the gentle guidance of others; • learn, through the successes and failures around us, what it means to live a life of discipleship. “There is no substitute for living around other Christians,” write Stanley Hauerwas and William Willimon of Duke Divinity School. A “primary way of learning to be disciples is by being in contact with others who are disciples” (Resident Aliens: Life in the Christian Colony). We grow in discipleship as we strive with others to hear God’s Word, feed the hungry, welcome strangers and love one another. —Homiletics  BULLET   E-NEWSLETTER W EST  LYNCHBURG  BAPTIST C HURCH October 24, 2010 “ON MISSION TO REACH PEOPLE FOR THE FAMILY OF GOD.”  BULLET HIGHLIGHTS....  Men’s Prayer Breakfast 10/23 EDGE Lunch Fund-raiser 10/24 & other EDGE EVENTS Young Musicians share at Evening Worship 10/24  OCTOBER TRUNK OR TREAT 10/27 Brunswick Stew Sale - Fund-rai ser 10/30 Church-Wide Movie Night “Luther” 10/30 EDGE PROVE THE TITHE SUNDAY - October 31 BUCKETS OF HELP- November

WMU Mission Project November 2010

Baptist Global Response

In Home Care Kits

The BGR In-Home Care Kit is a compilation of medical and hygienesupplies. Items in this kit will make the care-givers’ tasks mucheasier, but more importantly, will ease the suffering of the ones

affected by the HIV/AIDS. The WMU along with your help plan to put together a bucket(s) forBGR.

The bulletin board will have tags with items listed that are needed for a bucket of HELP.

Pick a tag and purchase the item(s). Tags will be posted after the 3oth of October.

Please this is very important....NO SUBSTITUTIONS ARE ALLOWED. Purchase exactly what is on the tag. The bucket items have been specifically picked out for thecare and use of the HIV/AIDS person and to fit into the bucket.

By putting together at least one kit, we will help provide a physical and spiritual touch to those insub-Saharan Africa who are dying from AIDS and other illnesses. Our local partners in Africa willdistribute the buckets in a way that gives dignity and hope to each family receiving a kit.

“Listen to my cry for help, for I am brought very low. Rescue me from my pursuers, for they are

too strong for me.” Psalm 147:7
