events for nurses and student nurses are to support their
role in reducing the use of psychotropic and other similar

working with the people who prescribe this medication
before it is given to people.
These events are sponsored by NHS England, supported
by the Royal College of Nursing and facilitated by Debra
Moore Associates Ltd. People from the Royal College of

IHaL’s Self -Assessment Change report
The Joint Health and Social Care Self Assessment
Framework was introduced by learning disability services
following the abuse at Winterbourne View.
In ‘Transforming Care’, the Government’s final report on
their investigation of these events, published in December
2012, NHS England and the Association of Directors of
Adult Social Services promised to develop a method for a
joint annual self-review of local services.
This report has been written to add to the thinking of the
self-assessment as a tool for showing progress in service
design and supply.
The report shows the pattern of changes seen between
the 2013 and 2014 exercises. It only looks at the section
of the assessment which uses red/amber/green ratingsagainst standard quality measures.

Good practice guides for commissioners onautism strategy
The National Autistic Society have made some shortguides to act as a quick way of looking things up for localauthorities and the NHS.
The guides set out the basics of what they must do tocarry out the different parts of the adult autism strategyand legal guidance, as well as what they need to do next, once they have the basics in place.
They also include examples of good work already takingplace, showing how a few simple, practical measures canhave a positive effect on the lives of autistic adults.
This good practice guidance was produced in January2016 with funding from the Department of Health and inconsultation with the Association of Directors of AdultSocial Services.

Local Area Coordination supports the Councils’ dutiesunder the Care Act to empower individuals and improvehealth and wellbeing outcomes through communitysolutions.
The purpose of the analysis was to measure impact ofLAC across Derby City Council showing the value andcost benefit to support continued investment through theBetter care Fund and Adult Social Care Funding andpotential value should the service be expanded to all 17wards.
They found that for a three years ahead with 10 Local
Area Coordinators, £4.00 of social value would beearned for every £1.00 invested. They used somethingcalled Social Return on Investment (SROI) to work thisout.
The analysis was 1st done for Thurrock Council based onnine LAC in July 2015. Then followed by an analysis forDerby based on ten LAC in November 2015.

Brandesburton Hospital Oral History Project
In 2015 Purple Patch Arts was awarded just under
£40,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund to collect the
memories of people who lived or worked at Brandesburton
Hospital in East Yorkshire. They are working in
partnership with the University of Leeds.
The team are looking to interview previous staff, patients
and/or their family members. They are going to archive
their findings in the Treasure House in Beverley so that
people in future can find out about the hospital.
The project team hope that this project will improve
people’s understanding of some of the challenges faced
by people with learning disabilities and improve the care
and support given to them.
If you are aware of anybody who lived or worked at the
Brandesburton Hospital and who might be interested insharing their memories, please can you contact the project
