A case of assault, intimidation and crimen injuria was opened against Mr Julius Malema, the leader of the EFF, in Tzaneen yesterday. Bulletin was there and the story is on p 3. ese photos show Malema manhandling the complainant.
Mnr Sam Mabo-kwane, ‘n onderw-yser in inheemse tale by die Hoër-skool Ben Vorster, is onverwags Din-sdagmiddag dood.
Sy is ‘n onderwyseres by Ben Vorster.

“Killing Me Softly With His Song”
Strumming my pain with his fi ngersSinging my life with his wordsKilling me softly with his songKilling me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his wordsKilling me softly with his song
I heard he sang a good songI heard he had a style
And so I came to see himTo listen for a while
And there he was this young boyA stranger to my eyes
Strumming my pain with his fi ngersSinging my life with his wordsKilling me softly with his songKilling me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his wordsKilling me softly with his song
I felt all fl ushed with feverEmbarassed by the crowdI felt he found my letters
And read each one out loudI prayed that he would fi nish
But he just kept right on
Strumming my pain with his fi ngersSinging my life with his wordsKilling me softly with his songKilling me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his wordsKilling me softly with his song
He sang as if he knew meIn all my dark despair
And then he looked right through meAs if I wasn’t there
And he just kept on singingSinging clear and strong
Strumming my pain with his fi ngersSinging my life with his wordsKilling me softly with his songKilling me softly with his song

What Vlieg likes about poetry, is that it can mean whatever the reader wants it to mean. Unless you’re a maggot or pupa at school, then it needs to mean what your teacher wants it to mean. Vlieg does not miss those days. Or those teachers, for that matt er.
Songs are in Vlieg’s opinion also poetry, and their lyrics could and should also be as meaningful as the uncomposed verse. Unlike modern Afrikaans rubbish writt en by morons and performed by idiots.
Vlieg stumbled across this song — writt en in the seventies and made famous by Roberta Flack — during a week where his thoughts oft en went out to Reeva Steenkamp. Although the writer of the song probably meant something completely diff erent to Vlieg’s interpretation of it during this week, Vlieg couldn’t help to draw the analogy to Reeva.
In Vlieg’s, sometimes maybe not so orthodox mind, he imagined Reeva sitt ing on a cloud, playing the harp, and singing this song to her killer. However Vlieg tries to make sense of her demise, he ends up of the opinion that she was actually killed at least four times.
Once, in what is perceived by many as probable complete jealous anger; once, further “soft ly” by what many call her killer’s lies, rather than “song” in court and beyond; once, by what many observers call a completely erroneous judgement; once, by what a seeming overwhelming majority rate as a totally inappropriate sentence.
May Oscar’s “song” now be silent forever, and may Reeva rest in peace!
Long live Reeva!

The pupils of Merensky High School surprised the Headmaster, Mr Magnus Steyn, on Monday during assembly with an early birthday celebration. As the head boy, Rassie Pretorius, explained in his address, Mr Steyn’s birthday is in December. “Therefore, the school can-not extend their wishes for a healthy and prosperous life at Merensky.” Steyn received a coffee machine and five helium balloons, symbolising his five years at Plasieland. Steyn replied that this was the perfect way to kick-off the last week of academic activities, before the final exams start today — and he invited coffee-lovers to join him for a cuppa in his office. Handing over the new piece of equipment are PG and
Christie, two of the prefects.

A case of assault, intimidation and crimen injuria was laid against Julius Malema, leader of the EFF, in Tzaneen yesterday, aft er he allegedly sweared and jolted at a customer in a takeaway
restaurant on 6 August this year. The incident in the Steers takeaway
restaurant at Sasol next to the R71 in Tzaneen was reported to the police by Mr Cassie Moller, with the assistance of Afriforum.
In his statement Moller said he and his wife, Marisa, stopped in the early hours of the morning at the
restaurant to order two hamburgers. Aft er waiting for quite a while, Moller enquired about the delay and wanted his money back.
Suddenly a member of a group of men in the restaurant started yelling at him and ordered him to get out. Moller immediately recognized the man as Mr Julius Malema. The next moment Malema started swearing at him and pushing him around, in spite of his pleas that he wasn’t looking for a fi ght. He was jolted around
at least three times, while Malema allegedly swung a fi nger in his face.
Aft er his wife received their order at last, they were pushed out of the restaurant by Malema and his friends.
Moller’s statement was accompanied by images recorded by a CCTV camera in the restaurant,
clearly showing how Moller was shoved around by the controversial political leader.

Police in the Tzaneen cluster of the SAPS should not encouter problems with trans-port and response times should be at accept-able levels. So says the cluster’s communi-cations offi cer, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.
We asked him about the situation aft er the recent release of the SAPS’s annual report. According to the report the response time of the SAPS in Limpopo is rather slow. Lim-popo is seventh on the list of nine provinces.
The report was recently discussed in Par-liament and some members expressed their shock about response times.
With an average response time of just above 21 minutes, Limpopo police’s response time is more than two minutes slower than the
national average and almost four minutes slower than the Western Cape, which has the fastest response in the country.
According to the report, a shortage of po-lice vehicles, poor maintenance of vehicles and bad management in general are some of the factors aff ecting the SAPS’s eff ective-ness in the country.
Ngoepe confi rmed that the Tzaneen clus-ter recently received more vehicles to im-prove their service. He urged the public to report any abuse of police vehicles to the station commander.
With an average response time of more than 26 minutes, the Eastern Cape SAPS has the slowest response time in the country.
Maake SAPS launched a school linkage programme at Lenyenye Love Life Centre last week.
The purpose of the event was to o cially hand over to the Department of Education a list of police o cials who are linked to schools. Each school within the Thabina, Lepelle, Makhutsu and Shiluvane circuits in the Maake police area was allocated a police o cial who will help make sure that problems such a drugs, alcohol abuse, bullying, assault and the possession of dangerous weapons are eradicated, and proper attention is given to all cases of that nature. This initiative will ensure safety at schools and encourage responsible and accountable policing in Maake’s SAPS area.
Lt Col M R Magoro addressed the gathering and o cially handed over the documents to all circuit managers in the presence of their school principals. In his speech, Magoro encouraged everyone to work together towards a common goal of eradicating crime by all means possible.
The event was also honoured by the local CPF’s management team, local traditional authorities and other role players.
Lt Col Magoro (acting station commander of Maake SAPS) is seen here handing over the document to Ms K G Shai (manager
of the Shilubane circuit).

“Give unto God what is due unto God”
The prophets of the Old Testament must have had extreme faith and trust in God. They were oft en asked to do things that, in today’s world could be consid-ered impossible.
Moses was one of these prophets who put his trust in God and found that God was faithful and kept His promises. Imagine, leading an unruly mob through a desert, and not really knowing where you were go-ing? Tremendous faith was needed.
Yet Moses gave unto God what was due unto God - his faith and trust. In the New Testament we read many passages where Jesus was tested by the religious authori-ties, always trying to catch Him out. One such passage is Mathew 22: 15-21. It is about taxation: “Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not” How do we feel about the taxes our government imposes on us?
We oft en feel that they are unfair and ac-tually sometimes “not Christian”. Yet Jesus clearly states, aft er asking them whose face is on the coin, “give unto Caesar what is due unto Caesar” thus, we too must follow this example and pay our taxes, no matt er how much we dislike it. But Jesus adds another rider: “And to God what is God’s”
What is God’s? Who created the earth and all that is in it? Was it not God Himself? Therefore, rightly everything we own is actually God’s. God, however, does not de-mand we give Him everything, all He asks for is one tenth.
This is not only in monetary terms but also of our time and talents. Oft en people feel that giving their monetary tithe is all that is needed, this is not so we need to give of our time and talents too. Many a time a Church is left to be run by the “faithful few”. Is it not time we served God as we should by giving unto God what is due unto God?Blessings.
Ons mening The Message
An apology is in order for last week’s front page head line to this column.
Other than the blatant ste-reotyping, the sarcasm even, and the sheer falsity a title such as ‘Why women get an-gry’ entails, it goes against every fi bre or my feminist be-ing. I send my sincerest apologises to all readers of Bulletin and all women for the title. The error was in typing.
Other than, perhaps, the basic biol-ogy of our sex and the cultural insti-tutionalisation of our socialisation, as women, we come in diff erent shapes and sizes. A major part of my obses-sion is pointing out that, just like men, women are individuals and autono-mous - not only from men, but from each other as well. There is no one kind of woman. My heart truly cries out loud whenever I see texts with titles such as ‘What Women Want’, ‘What Makes Women Happy’, ‘How to Please a Woman’ and so on. What one woman wants is not necessarily what another woman wants.
The “we” in last week’s “Why are we angry” was not referring to women, but to feminists. Not all women are feminists and not only women are fem-inists. I pointed out in the column that as feminists, “we are angry that femi-nism is seen as a women’s movement”.
Sexism hurts men too. I plan on expanding on this someday. I truly believe men will also benefi t, as in-dividuals and in their relationships with women, from espousing feminist values. Although we will not apolo-gise for our need for autonomy, as feminists, we are not in the business of bashing on men. We root for more men to join us.
Furthermore, as feminists, we do not get angry from time to time. We are angry - for indeed all the reasons list-
ed in the previous column and more.
In my experience, it is of-ten boys who are encour-aged to be diff erent, stand-out and embrace their individuality. For many of us daughters of Eve, the in-
dividuality was encouraged only to a certain age or stage in life; by many means, depending on one’s social background. In my case it was up to matric. Aft erwards, the encour-agement was more towards adapting to what is expected of women and un-derstanding that men come with dif-ferent skills and personalities.
Some can cook very well, bett er than most women, and others are bett er at mechanical work or maths and sci-ence, amongst other things. All wom-en, however, should be able to cook, clean the house and be nurturing to children amongst other things, re-gardless of her personality and inter-ests. It is this kind of inherent sexism that we fi ght against and encourage a diff erent perspective from.

Limpopo FocusUniven launches a new green projectThe University of Venda yesterday hosted the opening of a func-tional demonstration kitchen using biogas as the cooking energy from the digestion of cow dung.
The University is partnering with the Lim-popo Department of Economic Develop-ment, Environment and Tourism (LEDET), the Vhembe Further Education Training (FET) College and some local non-govern-mental organizations in implementing the Provincial Green Economy Plan. This col-laboration has resulted in the signing of a memorandum of agreement between the
LEDET and the Univen for the establishment of a green economy centre of excellence. The kitchen using biogas from the digestion of cow dung, will be used to cook food for Uni-ven’s department of consumer science.
This pilot project is an example of a self-sustaining integrated farming system, show-ing potential of waste-to-energy conversion through the production of biogas from ani-mal and plant waste (for energy and liquid fertilizer). The campus demo digester sys-tem serves for training and research for op-timization of the integral system.

Daar was byvoorbeeld afdelings vir 100 m-groepering met teleskoop of oop visier, .22-gewere, handwapens, boog

Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, Tzaneen SAPS’s spokesperson, said the police and forensic investigations, which will assist in confi rming the deceased’s sex, are still underway. He requested the pubic to relay any information to the Bolobedu Police to assist in identifying the person.
Lost and found luggageLost luggage was recently found alongside the Polokwane/Mooketsi road near the Soekmekaar turn-off . A school bag with food, clothes, liquor, a cell phone batt ery and the ID of Mr Sechaba Johannes Mohale, born in 1966, amongst other things, were found by a passer-by next to the road. Bank statements showing cash withdrawals at Maponya Mall in Soweto were amongst the items. The Police in Modjadjiskloof
call upon anyone who knows Mohale to assist in identifying the luggage.
Massive manhunt The Maake police are on a massive manhunt aft er an elderly woman, Serekele Rebecca Mathaka (75), was brutally killed at Madeira village in the Sekororo area early this week. Mathaka’s grandson allegedly left her and when he later returned he found her lying dead in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds. The police request anyone with information about the incident to contact Lt Colonel Cecil Machimana on 072 532 1725 or the crime stop number 08600 10111.
Suspected rhino poachers shotThree suspected rhino poachers were shot by SANPARKS rangers in the Kruger National Park over the weekend. The fi rst suspect, wearing a Mozambican soldier uniform, was shot dead. The bank manger contacted the account holder, who informed him the transaction was fraudulent. The police were called and while the third suspect managed to escape, the former cop and his accomplice were arrested on the scene. They appeared in the Tzaneen Magistrates Court on charges of fraud earlier this week and the case was remanded.

Our grade 12 learners are going for their final exams of the year 2014. So much effort was put into making sure that their hard work for the year be realized when the year comes to an end. Hard work and dedication must be the order of the day these coming weeks as we see our children during trial time.
Dedicated learners will reap success which will motivate other learners to pull up their socks. As Greater Letaba Municipality, we want to see all grade 12 learners pass with flying colours. We have dedicated an amount of R2 million for student bursaries. The bursary caters for learners residing in Greater Letaba Municipality. We host Education Excellence Awards every year rewarding leaners and teachers who work hard by awarding them cash prizes, laptops, tablets, trophies and certificates. This is done to motivate learners and teachers to work hard. Learners who produce good results will have the liberty to choose institutions and careers of their choice so that they are able to have a promising future.
Bursaries are available countrywide in different sector departments of government, private sector, and NGO. Bursaries are allocated to learners who distinguish themselves in terms of good performance and have good scope of imagination about their future.
Greater Letaba Municipality is behind every learner who will be writing examination. Leaners should remember that hard work, dedication, perseverance will bring your dreams closer to light. Anurag Prakash Ray said “Dream big only when you have the guts and courage to make your dream a reality”. This is the time to develop that gut and courage because your dream depends solely on it.
The Integrated Development Plan reflects the need for educated young people within the municipality. The more educated people we have, the more likely our economy will grow. We depend on your hard work to see a better GLM.
Remember, Education is a pre-condition for development. It opens all the doors of life. Education is the enemy of poverty. It is through education that as a country, we can eradicate poverty in our communities.
This is the time to decide on ones future, if destiny is upon one’s self or is decided upon.bulletin©9585glm141024tb

Exam season is upon us and soon hundreds of thousands of scholars will be pulling caf-feine-fuelled all-nighters in an att empt to cram a year’s worth of information into their heads, but a pharmaceutical company warns of caff eine-induced anaphylaxis or allergy.
Mariska van Aswegen, spokesperson of al-lergy medicine provider Pharma Dynamics says the next month or so is going to be par-ticularly stressful for students.
“Whether intentional or not, many students tend to leave studying for fi nals till the elev-enth hour resulting in many nocturnal hours spent slumped over a desk in last-minute preparation. This is when stimulants such as coff ee and energy drinks become the go-to in order to help students stay awake and alert.”
But too much caff eine can lead to caff eine-induced anaphylaxis or caff eine allergy toxic-ity, especially in sensitive individuals.
Van Aswegen warns that a caff eine allergy can be deceptive. “The allergic person may experience typical symptoms associated with an allergy which includes sneezing, diffi culty breathing, hives an itchy or swollen mouth and tongue, heart palpitations, dizziness or
eczema. But these physical cues are oft en accompanied by psychiatric responses. De-pending on how much caff eine is consumed, symptoms of caff eine allergy — also termed by some as a cerebral allergy — can range from mild to severe which include lack of concentration and comprehension, ag-gression, hyperactivity and disorgan-ised thought processes.
“Students may diagnose their symptoms as a sign of over-tiredness making them reach for yet another cuppa or energy drink, which may provide minor relief, but it just continues to jeopardise the body,” she cautions.
She says a caff eine allergy is diffi cult to detect and can take several hours for symptoms to become apparent. Caff eine is also the last thing you associate the response with. Although many people drink coff ee, energy drinks and cola, which contain large doses of caff eine, some may not realise that they are actually allergic
to it. Symptoms may vary depending on how strong a person’s allergy to caff eine is.
“How you react to caff eine has a lot to do with how much caff eine you are used to drinking. People or students in this case who
aren’t used to consuming lots of caff eine on a regular basis can be much more sen-sitive or allergic to its negative eff ects.
The converse may also be true. Ac-cording to medical literature,
the longer a person is ex-posed to an allergen, the
greater the chances of developing an allergy to the substance.
“Once this happens, those allergic to caffeine
can’t adequately metabo-lise it. Consequently, they
experience hypersensitivity or infl ammation in certain organs. So, it pays
to know your limits with caff eine.”Her advice is: 1. Ditch the caff eine for H²O.
Water gives the brain the electrical charge it needs for all brain functions, including thought and memory processes; 2. Eat a well-
balanced diet of fruit and vegetables at least a week prior to and during exam time; 3. Take a fi ve minute break every hour to allow your body to produce more glucose — the fuel you need for studying. Rather opt for snacks such as almonds, blueber-ries, avocados, fatt y fi sh and yoghurt; 4. Get enough sleep and avoid the all-nighters. Studies show that all-nighters impair rea-soning and memory for up to four days. Review the toughest material right before going to bed the night before the exam/test, which makes it easier to recall the informa-tion later; 5. Avoid distractions such as lis-tening to music, SMSing or tweeting while studying as this will limit your ability to retain information
“By drinking three caff einated energy drinks a day, scholars could be ingesting more than 500 mg of caff eine or 1,5 times the amount of caff eine that is regarded as safe for adult consumption. Two to three cups of coff ee (300 mg of caff eine) a day is considered safe and teenagers should limit themselves to no more than 100 mg of caf-feine a day,” says Van Aswegen.
Matrics beware: Too much caffeine poses a health risk

Bulletin
us.com/articles/opinion/27358/2014-10-17/kontraktuele-mallighede.
Oubal se spanpraatjie Saterdag was ‘n half moeilike aff êre.
In ou AI se gevleuelde
woorde, “Iet djast ghous toe sjou, doktirs dount nou ewweriefi eng!”
Of dalk nog Allesverloren, want Oubal weet nie of Wiepie? se wankelende skrum sal staande bly nie.
“Mail your packages early so the post offi ce can lose them in time for Christmas.” — Johnny Carson
— Redakteur
Askies! En daar was 2!
