KICK OF EVENT, HARBINGERS OF CHANGE

The current initiative is a follow up to the Youth Peace Incubator (YPI) that both University and the Lab initiated about two years ago and through which over 500 students of the Varsity were directly engaged into trainings, seminars, dialogues, internships, and discussion events. In the current phase, greater focus is being placed on building communications skills of the students, helping them improve their analytical abilities, and be

better able to productively and creatively deal with and respond to negative societal phenomena and propagandas that exploit religious differences and societal chasms to create divisions and frustrations.

The Harbinger of Change initiative is built on the premise that exposure to intellectual freedom, mentorship by the social leaders, and productive debates and discussions are at the heart of a tolerant society. All the academic institutions and civil society organizations need to do is to provide more and better opportunities of the same for our youth.

The MNS-UAM and Accountability Lab – a local civil society organization, jointly launched the Harbingers of Change initiative on Jan. 10, 2018. Through the eight-month long initiative, the Accountability Lab will train the university youth on conflict resolution skills and equip them with tools of story-telling, modern communications, and leadership that may help them evolve into responsible members of community with greater tolerance and congeniality for religious, ethnic and cultural differences in the society.

Both the MNS-UAM and Accountability Lab recognize the fact that future of Pakistan lies in the hands of its youth – the more capable, tolerant, skillful, and forbearing are the country's youth, the brighter will be its future. On the contrary, if the youth is left unattended, and compelled to deal with its social uncertainties on its own and without guidance, this might leave a room for the non-state actors and enemies of the state to exploit them.
