(25-8, 25-12, 25-21).

In Friday’s opening

match, Jackie Toussaint

scored 15 points key for Aruba capturing the third place of the classifying phase. Aruba

was superior in the blocking category 5-3 and in serving points 9-3. Chante Smith-

Johnson led Cayman Islands scoring 5 points.

The rematch for the third place of the tournament is programmed for 6:00pm and the

winner will advance to the second qualification round to take place in 2013.

“We came in the match with a lot of positive energy, we listened to our coaches’

directions and correct some mistakes from yesterday. We’ll go back in the rematch the

same way” said Toussaint.

Anita Lansdell Cayman Islands’ captain was disappointed with the result but still with a

good attitude for the rematch, “the team was too anxious and we lost focus, we still

have one more shot to make it right.”

Igmar Ogenia, coach for the winners had a different combination for the third set “it

didn’t work out, so I know what I have to do tonight to assure the win and the

qualification.”

“We were able to gain control in the third set but the team is young and they also have

to learn how to win” said Keith Higgins Cayman Islands’ coach.

En el primer juego del

viernes, Jackie Toussaint anotó 15 puntos claves para que Aruba capturara el tercer

lugar de la fase de clasificación. Aruba fue superior en la categoría de bloqueo por 5-3

y en puntos por servicio 9-3. Chante Smith-Thompson lideró a Islas Caimán con 5

puntos.

La revancha por el tercer lugar del torneo es a las 6:00pm y el ganador avanza a la

segunda ronda clasificatoria que se desarrollará en el 2013.

“Entramos al juego con mucha energía positiva, escuchamos las instrucciones de

nuestro entrenador y corregimos errores cometidos ayer. En el próximo juego

entraremos de la misma manera” dijo Toussaint.

Anita Lansdell capitana de Islas Caimán se mostró decepcionada por el resultado pero

con buena actitud por la revancha, “el equipo estaba muy ansioso y perdimos

concentración, aun tenemos una oportunidad más para hacer las cosas bien.”

Igmar Ogenia, entrenador de las ganadoras hizo una combinación distinta para el

tercer set “no funcionó, así que sé lo que debo hacer en la noche para asegurar el

triunfo y la clasificación.”

“Pudimos tomar control en el tercer set pero el equipo es joven y también deben

aprender a ganar” dijo Keith Higgins el entrenador de Islas Caimán.

Jamaica still undefeated

KINGSTON, Jamaica, November

30, 2012. - Jamaica beat

Barbados by 3-1 (25-21, 25-

19, 18-25, 25-17) to finish

undefeated in the preliminary

round of the NORCECA Group E

First Round Tournament of the

2014 FIVB Women’s World

Championship.

The host opened up

aggressively while Barbados

was only able to dominate

them in the third set.

Jamaica registered a 3-0 win-loss record and will meet again with Barbados on Friday

night for the first place of the event. Aruba and Cayman Islands will battle for the third

place and the ticket to next year’s second round of competitions.

The winners held a huge margin of 12-5 in blocking points. Lecia Brown collected 16

points, Maniki Thompson 12 and Avaniki Campbell 11 to lead Jamaica while Shari

Mathews finished with 19 for the defeated side.

Shedeiky Hamilton for the winners said “we knew we had to play hard from the start,

things turned out as planned because we improved our passing and serves which

helped us to push forward.”

“Our lack of focus caused us the match, Jamaica had more power than we expected.

We were able to have a comeback but it wasn’t enough so I believe the rematch looks

promising” indicated Thonya Joseph.

Jamaican coach, Gatashew Bonner expressed “it has been too long since we’ve won to

Barbados and this will give the team confidence for the important match. Our hard

work for the past months has shown progress.”

Andrew Brathwaite said that his team didn’t execute the game plan, “I believe the girls

were surprised by Jamaica, so the final match will be more interesting. I am happy for

Jamaica’s development.”

La anfitrionas iniciaron de

forma agresiva en tanto que

Barbados pudo dominarlas

solo en el tercer parcial.

Jamaica registró 3-0 en victorias y se enfrentará de nuevo a Barbados el viernes por la

noche para el primer lugar del evento. Aruba e Islas Caimán lucharán por el tercer

lugar y el boleto para la segunda ronda de competencias del año entrante.

Las ganadoras tuvieron una enorme ventaja de 12-5 en puntos de bloqueo. Lecia

Brown anotó 16 puntos, Maniki Thompson 12 y Avaniki Campbell 11 para liderar a

Jamaica, mientras que Shari Mathews terminó con 19 puntos para el lado perdedor.

Shedeiky Hamilton por las ganadoras dijo “sabíamos que debíamos jugar fuerte desde

el principio, las cosas salieron como planeadas porque mejoramos en nuestro pase y

servicio lo que nos ayudó a presionar más.”

“Nuestra falta de concentración nos costó el juego, Jamaica tuvo más fuerza de la que

esperábamos. Pudimos reaccionar pero no fue lo suficiente así que creo que la

revancha es prometedora” indicó Thonya Joseph.

El entrenador de Jamaica, Gatashew Bonner expresó “ha sido mucho tiempo desde que

le podíamos ganar a Barbados y esto le dará confianza al equipo para el juego

importante. Nuestro progreso se debe al arduo trabajo de los últimos meses.”

Andrew Brathwaite dijo que su equipo no ejecutó el plan de juego que se trazó,

“pienso que las chicas se sorprendieron de Jamaica, así que la final será más

interesante. Estoy contento por el desarrollo de Jamaica.”
