Business meeting at Louisville
out of the pigeon business. About 230 dead birds but I am already trying to get back on my feet with a fresh start. I have had the
buildings cleaned out and hopefully varmit proofed and headed forward.
Please note we have the Rare Breeds Specialt Pure-bred Pigeon magazine com-ing out. I will be at Des Moines, Fremont, Oklaho-ma and also we are holding a Rare Breeds meet in Can-ada in February. See you again next Bulletin.
James
Hello Rare Breeds Club Members and Friends: We have started the show season off with a bang!!! Louisville
was par excellence superb and I was glad to see many of you there. The Rare Breeds Auction was again a very big hit at Louisville and we are planning to do one at Des Moines and Lancaster.
There our some house-keeping issues that I need your help on . I really want to have a good list of all the shows we can hold a Rare Breeds Club meet at. Would you take a few min-utes and drop me a note about the show in your area and your state and lets get a good perspective for our future.
Also due to time constraints I have asked Scott Amo to be our Club Secretary filling out Link’s term and Link to fill out Scott’s term as Vice President. Then at election time this can be straightened out officially.
We will be moving ahead with the idea of importing some breeds from Europe – Ptar-migams and Shelshunks in different colors to name just two. Again, drop me an email, give me a call or write me a letter.
Also please look over the show reports this month and in particular note the large Rare Breed Entry at the North Star Classic and I hear they did it again this year and the report will be in the next newsletter.
On a personal note I had the terrible ex-perience of having a couple of minks get in my buildings! Ouch! They darn near put me

The Fall/Winter Show Season is well underway. Anyone with show results please get them to me ASAP. I’m trying to keep the records as up to date as possible. To help me out with this, please use the Rare Breeds Meet Summary Sheets and fill them out as completely as possible. This allows for posting results quickly and accurately. The show result sheets are where all my information for Master Breeder Points comes from. They are available in the show packets that Scott Amo sends out with the Meet Rosettes. If you are not receiving or using them contact Scott. The packet contains Award Rosettes (newest are red and white), and all the pa-perwork you need for a sanctioned Rare Breeds Club Meet. You can contact me by phone, email, snail mail, or even stop in for a visit if you are in the neighbor hood. Any questions on Master Breeder Points do not hesitate tto ask – they are very, very appreciated.
I am also pleased to report that Leon Tucker has amassed more than 600 points in Italian Owls adding him as a Master Breeder for this breed.
Respectfully submitted, Jack Melkerson 2936 Sherman Drive, Lapeer Mi 48446

AUCTION NEWSEach year in Louisville we have the Annual Busi-ness Meeting and also an auction. Many fine birds are donated to the club for this auction. We also have auctions at Des Moines and Lancaster, well we did have the first ever auction in Des Moines this year and will have our first auction in Lancaster this coming January. Link Martin will be doing the auction in Lancaster so if you have good birds to donate then bring them and talk to Link at the show. If your going to Lancaster PA then come and bid on a few good pairs. This year in Louisville we had Pheas-ants, Danzigs, Oriental Rollers, South German Priests, Double Crested Transylvanian Tumblers, Rhinebeaters, Starlings, Muffed Ice and Archan-gels. The club made $671.00. At our first ever auction in Des Moines we had 3 pairs of Bell Neck Rollers, German Modenas, 2 pairs of Portuguese and an English Barb pair. The club made $90.00 at this event. We did not get the birds donated that we had ex-pected and the crowd was scant for the auction, but if we continue this event it will grow. The club depends on this income to cover the cost of the Bulletin and other costs. Thank you on behalf of the club to all the breeders that donated quality birds and to the folks that came and purchased these birds.

Accredited Judges…
This is a fine group of people to pick from for judging your next Rare Breeds event, but they are of course not the only qualified Judges.
However, if you want to use another judge then you must get your choice approved.
We are continuously updating the list and if you want to add a name or add your own name, then please contact me and I will submit it to the judging coordinator.
It is our goal to have a comprehensive list of names of qualified judges and a judging program to train future judges.
Please submit your ideas to me. Thanks, Scott

The 2013 Annual Business Meeting was once again held at the Days Inn hotel in
Jeffersonville Indiana. The hotel is fairly new and has few
guests and the management gives the club a free meeting room and for the past three years we have had a catered dinner preceeding the meeting. This year the catering was done by KFC at half the price of Mike’s Feed Mill.
Ten members were in attendance:James FathbrucknerScott AmoJack MelkersonSally PrzybranowskiJon CurtisDoug JonesFrank KaczorAl GrahamKendall HoodMary Fathbruckner
There was discussion about the cost of a catered dinner. In the past we had the meeting in the show hall, but it be-came very hard for Ron Davis to talk above the crowd. We moved the meet-ing to the hotel and catered the event to celebrate the club’s 40th anniversa-ry. The following year we continued at the hotel and catered the dinner and gave out life time achievement awards. Out of habit we catered the dinner this year, however there was no special cel-ebration. The number of members in attendance dropped from 25 to 10 so it was decided to return the meeting to the show hall on Friday evenings.
The next annual business meeting will be at the NYBS on Friday evening at 6PM in 2014 in the show hall. The event will not be catered. We hope to get more members involved by re-turning to the show hall. The hotel remains the best deal and all mem-

OLD BUSINESSElections of RBPC Officers. The RBPC handbook states that officers are elected on even years, however be-cause of Ron’s illness the election was delayed one year and is now on the odd year.Members discussed the timing of the election and it was decided to return to the even year. New elections will be held in 2014. Ballots will go out in the Summer Bulletin and be returned by the Fall Bulletin 2014.Announcement of the new officers will be at the 2014 Annual Meeting and newly elected officers will be put in place January 1 of 2015. Term to be 2015-2017.If you are interested in being on the ballot then contact Scott Amo so your name will be included in the Summer Bulletin. If you are interested in being the Elec-tion Officer then contact James Fath-bruckner. This officer will have the ballots mailed to them and will count ballots and declare the winners.
James Fathbruckner will contact our webmaster for an update on the con-dition of the RBPC website.
James will also contact Joe Powers about starting up the importation of rare breeds from the EU. Prior Bul-letins asked for membership’s input into what breeds we might want to import. No participation came from the general membership over the past year, however Link and Joe did con-tact Mick Basset for a list of possible
breeds to import. It was their conces-sion that some breeds import better than others. If your Really interested in the process contact me Scott [email protected]
NEW BUSINESSNPA bands vs other bands at RBPC meets was discussed. Seamless bands were agreed upon. Members discussed other merits such as… the number of people showing birds is dwindling should we allow rare breeds with oth-er bands to be shown? No conclusions on this topic were achieved. Here is a great opportunity for someone out there to write an article for the Bulle-tin to express their opinion.
RBPC held the number one spot at the NYBS for having the largest entry. We had 337 birds in the show.
State representatives’ role in RBPC was discussed. Members would like to see more participation from our rep-resentatives. We encourage them to write to the Bulletin. A calendar will be put in the Spring/Summer Bulle-tins of show dates and places to adver-tise your state’s show.

James brought up to the club that the
North Star show in Minnesota has not seen their show report in the Bulletin.
James asked Jack if the show report had been received. Jack was uncertain. (update since the meeting) Jack found the report on his computer, but due to the lack of some of information he is trying to reconstruct a show report from the provided information.
I hope to put the report in this Bul-letin if Jack can fill in all the blanks.
This concluded the meeting’s busi-ness and the meeting was closed.
