This Sunday at the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in Paterson, Bishop Arthur Serratelli will celebrant the for the candidates for Baptism, Confirmation, and First Eucharist from throughout the diocese. This is always a beautiful demonstration of the universality of the diocese, as candidates come from across the expanse of our local Church - from the very top of New Jersey in Montague and Sandyston Townships to our southeastern most parish, Saint Clare's in the Delawanna section of Clifton. This is the first time in eight years that the Cathedral has been able to be used for this annual liturgical event. Saint Anthony's will be represented, by our own candidates for the sacraments, led by Sister Betty Ann Martinez, F.M.A. our director of R.C.I.A.

During the Lenten Season, we will be offering The first, entitled "Sunday by Sunday," will be led by Sister Betty Ann Martinez, F.M.A., our Director of Religious Education, on the Friday mornings of Lent from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. in the Rectory Meeting Room. (See the flyer-page elsewhere in this bulletin).

The other Bible Study, also focusing on the Sunday readings, will be led by Father Rayon Tuesday evening from 7:30 to 8:30 P.M. in the church. While both Bible study groups will be focusing on the Sunday readings, they will be utilizing different tools and perspectives. Hopefully, one will be convenient for you.

• One of the principal Lenten observances for all Catholics is to make use of the Sacrament of Penance, and during the Lenten Season.

In addition to our regular Saturday afternoon Confessions from 4:30 to 5:15 P.M., we, as well as the other 108 churches of the Paterson Diocese, are open for Confessions every Monday night of Lent from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M.

• Last Saturday morning, the in Paterson came and picked up more than 200 pans of food which had been prepared by our parishioners as part of our annual Superbowl Sunday frozen dinners appeal. Thank you!

• On Wednesday, February 28, the sixth Bishop of Paterson, will celebrate his 40th Anniversary of ordination as Bishop. Bishop Rodimer, who turned 90 in October, currently resides at Saint Joseph Home, 140 Shepherd Lane, Totowa, NJ 07512.

We give you praise, Lord our God, king of the universe, you have sent your beloved Son Jesus Christ to redeem us by his passion, death and resurrection. Bless our meal, those who have prepared it, and those with whom we share it. As we fast from sin during this Lent, let us feast on your mercy in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT First Reading: Genesis 9:8-15 God made a promise to Noah that he would nev-er again devastate the entire planet with a flood. He also told Noah that the symbol of this prom-ise would be a rainbow in the clouds. Second Reading: 1 Peter 3:18-22 This letter from Peter reminds all people that Christ died for us so that we might be led to God. We have been saved by our baptism; not a physi-cal cleansing, but a promise to continually strive to obey God. Gospel: Mark 1:12-15 Mark briefly tells of Jesus’ stay in the desert, where he was tested by Satan. He did not give in to temptation, but reappeared in Galilee to proclaim the good news. charitable Donation Tax Information: Thank you for your generosity throughout 2017. We realize that tax season is upon us and you are anxious to receive your Charitable Contribution Tax Information. Our friends at Cathedral Corporation (our envelope company) are busy summarizing all donations through December 31, 2017. A Huge Thank You! The Social Services Ministry wishes to extend its profound gratitude to the parishioners of St. Anthony Church for their extremely generous help in providing frozen meals for the Fr. English Center in Paterson. You outdid yourselves this year by making well over two hundred meals (and still counting). We even had a family who decided to have a bit of fun and make a party of it. They made twenty pans; their goal for next year is forty pans! That’s the true Christian spirit of generosity and caring for those in need for which this parish is known. So, again, on behalf of the families served by the Fr. English Center, our ministry thanks you.

2. All tables are for 10 people. 3. If you want to purchase tickets with a group and sit at a specific table, there are two options:

a. Option 1 - One person purchases all seats at a specific table and separately collects money from the group.

b. Option 2 – One person purchases a seat at a table, e.g., #3, and informs the rest of the group to purchase seats at Table 3 as soon as possible, before the seats are purchased by someone else logging onto the website. The actual seat assignments at the table do not matter, but simply guarantees you a seat.

A Tricky Tray is a fundraiser in which we raffle off hundreds of baskets of varying prizes and retail values. Participants purchase raffle tickets, and tear each ticket into two halves. They keep half of each ticket, and place the other half in a container located next to the basket item they hope to win. The color of the raffle tickets match the color of the bows attached to each prize basket, which indicate the level of the prizes. Tickets may not be removed from a ticket canister under any circumstance, so participants should ensure the raffle ticket color matches the bow color, and the Prize number on the ticket canister matches the Prize Basket they are hoping to win! A participant can place as many tickets as they want in a given container to increase their odds of winning. Once the auction ends, winning tickets are drawn for each prize basket and the basket is then awarded to the owner of the matching half of the ticket. For 2018, the start of the drawing at 7:30 p.m. will coincide with the time when dinner will be served at the Tides Estate. Divide into 12 pieces and roll each into a “rope” about 10‐12 inches long. Form 

into a pretzel and place on baking sheet, brush with water and sprinkle with 

kosher salt. Let rise slightly and bake at 425° about 12‐15 minutes. 

Place yeast, sugar & warm water in a large bowl  

and let stand. Add flour & salt, mix well and knead to 

form smooth ball.
