Our SPC constitution stipulates the President can only fulfil this role for 3 years, and Gary would probably confirm that is plenty! So on behalf of the Committee, past and present, I would like to thank Gary for all his hard work, his enthusiasm, his willingness to give anything a go and his success in the role. I hope I can fill his mighty shoes and do half as good a job. Many of our existing Committee members have agreed to continue in some capacity and for that I thank them: Andrew Garland, Kay Sandfort, Andree Johnson- Clarke, Tracey Kerford. I also welcome Wendy Deans, Sandy Garland (not to be outdone by her husband) and Kylie Jones. Other members who continue to offer invaluable assistance are Christine Cellante, Lisa Tyrrell, Jenni Eggleston, Jo Darby and Kerri McLeod. I need you all and can’t do it without you. At the risk of sounding self indulgent, I would like to tell our members a bit about myself, in the hope that those who have kept a low profile in the SPC might relate to this, and be more willing to get involved, however small. I am married to Howard, have two children, Olivia (17) and Holly (15). From the moment Holly started mentioning horses at about 5 years old, we actively discouraged her, basically because we just weren’t in the slightest bit horsey. In fact I hated them and later realised that was just fear. Anyway, despite our lack of enthusiasm, Holly persisted, started riding lessons at Wandin Riding Academy, she’s still keen and we now own 3 horses. So fairly on I thought, as I had to be dragged reluctantly into this horse world, perhaps I had better learn about it so I could ensure safety for my child and gain some understanding and wasn’t bored to tears. Not one to do things by half, I volunteered for everything, to gain a bit of knowledge and not appear too stupid. And I joined the SPC Committee. Today I can proudly say I have learned masses, adore horses, enjoy competitions AND can find my way around the PCAV website. I admire anyone who rides knowing the hard working and dedication involved. But I still hate floating and can’t reverse the rotten thing, dislike the tedious rules associated with the riding industry, and have NO desire to learn to ride. My point of telling you this is to encourage you to join in— put your hand up even if you don’t know what you’re doing, it’s how you learn and get comfortable. Have a laugh, remember to keep it FUN and praise your kids for getting out there. And we could really use more help, even occasionally, so you will always be welcomed. Please feel free to give me a call at any time. Remember, this is one of the largest clubs in Victoria so it takes a bit of running. Although I wasn’t at the last rally, it appears I still managed to be appointed President—a job that had to be filled as Gary was stepping down. Our SPC constitution stipulates the President can only fulfil this role for 3 years, and Gary would probably confirm that is plenty!

So on beha lf of the Committee, past and present, I would like to thank Gary for all his hard work, his enthusiasm, his willingness to give anything a go and his success in the role. I hope I can fill his mighty shoes and do half as good a job.

Diary

Dates

Well, here I sit pondering over my first DC report and the reality of the rather large(and very cool) shoes I am filling has hit me. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Kerri and Gary for all the time and hard work they have put in for our club and for their knowledge and advice both now and in the future. (I have you both on speed dial).

My daughter Marlee has been a member at Seville for about two years and I have been involved with horses in some form for most of my life. I started at Pony Club when I was about 6, then later on working in Showjumping stables and the Thoroughbred Racing Industry as a Track Rider/strapper & Trainer.

It is exciting to be involved in such a large successful club. We have a great Committee and instructors who will ensure its continued success in the future. You as members can also help by bringing your smiling faces, good manners and much enthusiasm to Pony Club. Clean well fitted gear is a must and as from this rally instructors will ask you who your parent or guardian is for the day. It will be written down and they must be present on the grounds for

the whole rally, no name no ride.

The following members have put their names down for C certificate: Madison Buttolph, India Ambler, Madison Mandl, Teagan Hee, Juliette Darby, Hannah Lloyd, Joan Dekker and Rachael Collins. Can you all and a parent/guardian come and see me at lunchtime as you both need to sign the application form.

(If your name is not here and you would like to sit your C Cert. and you are 12 years of age or older, come and see me, absolute last chance)

C Certificate camp will be held on Friday 15th & Saturday 16th July.

These are the testing dates w e a r e r e q u e s t i n g : Wednesday 3 r d August(Written) and the practical test will be either the 6th, 13th or 20th August.

State Horse Trials this year are at Heytsbury on the weekend of 30th April & 1st May and I’m very proud to say Seville Pony Club has 5 r i d e r s q u a l i f i e d a n d competing. It takes much hard work, dedication and skill to get your trusty steed fit and ready for this event so on beha l f o f a l l o f u s congratulations and good luck to Naomi White, Mary Fildes, Sheridan Wilson, Meryl Dekker & Jarryd Stanley. (See “Seville Pony Club Stars” profile this month)

With daylight saving over we will be back to 9.45 start at th is ra l ly . P lease be assembled in your groups and ready to ride at this time. Check rally groups and plan in this newsletter so you know where you need to be.

Stay safe, have fun,

Tracey

Seville Pony Club Stars Profile

This newsletter’s star profile is on our 5 riders competing at State

Horse Trials this month.

Name: Naomi White & Mighty Tosca Favourite Food: Mango Gelati Favourite TV Show: Sea Patrol & Rescue Special Ops Other Hobbies: Playing guitar 3 People I would like to take to dinner: Emily Anker, Will Enzinger & Nat Davies Most Embarrassing moment: Forgetting the last showjump at State Horse Trials Best Advice from someone else: Make sure you enjoy the ride.

Name: Jarryd Stanley & Nobody’s Fool

My other hobbies are basketball every week and running most days of the week. I can’t say I have one favourite food, but many like hamburgers, Parma and lasagne Favourite TV show would have to be Modern Family, it is the best show going round!

The people who I would invite to dinner would be me, myself and I. Most embarrassing moment would have to be missing a fence in show jumping which was a brick wall and I had to go around it to get to the next fence. Best advice... not sure but something Chris Mann would of

told me haha.

Name: Mary Fildes & Frogswell Favourite Food: Oaten Chaff with a scoop of EasiResult & some licorice on the side Favourite TV Show: The Saddle Club 3 People I would like to take to dinner: Roger Federer, Arj Barker & Brad Pitt Most Embarrassing moment: Competing at my very last Tintern Interschool event , representing Tintern and falling off in showjumping in front of everybody, ending up with Froggy’s bridle in my hand with him running around free! (Questionable Strapper) Best Advice from someone else: Bum in Saddle.

Name: Sheridan Wilson & Simotty Favourite Food: I love chocolate!!! Favourite TV Shows: Two and a Half Men, Big Bang Theory 3 People I would like to take to dinner: Not sure but it would be some friends Most Embarrassing moment: Falling off in between jumps at cross country

Tooradin Horse Trials and landing flat on my bum Best Advice from someone else: Every time you fall off, you get a little bit

stronger.

Name: Meryl Dekker & Drummer Favourite Food: Spaghetti Favourite TV Shows: Skins 3 People I would like to take to dinner: My three best friends Most Embarrassing moment: Falling off Drummer in front of everyone, nearly

into the waterjump Best Advice from someone else: Always have confidence in yourself.

Results Rachael Collins riding Jack Daniels Mooroolbark Showjumping Day D Grade Two Round Championship: 1st place Overall: 4th place. Seville Pony Club Horse Trials Grade 3 Overall: 10th place.

Guess Again “Gus” Just wanted everyone to know that we had to put Gus to rest earlier this month and after many attempts to

help his failing system, we had to make the dreaded decision. Just 2 weeks ago, he was out jumping grade one jumps at Wandin Park in the cross country.

He gave Emily much joy and they were a great team.

We were the last lucky family to have him. He taught many kids to ride, albeit at a speedy rate! Lisa Tyrrell

Rest in peace little Gus. You will be sadly missed by all at Pony Club and our love and

best wishes go to Emily and her family.
