It’s now May and the year is 1/3 of the way over. It just seems like time just keeps moving so
fast. May brings in May Day, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, and in a lot of places the end of
the school year and start of summer break. We hope that May brings you health, joy, and

Vortexes

The definition of a vortex (Merriam-Webster Dictionary) is a mass of spinning air, liquid etc., that pulls things into its center. The plural of vortex
is vertices. Vile Vertices are by definition “miserable whirlers”. While conducting my research into this topic, most websites I came across
referred to vertices as vortexes when referring to the paranormal. The difference is, vertices are referring to electromagnetic/static/natural
energy and vortexes are referring to spiritual energy. The lines are kind of blurred when it comes to the paranormal, as most of our equipment
is geared to detect fluctuations in the electromagnetic field and temperature. While researching the paranormal, it’s hard to say whether these
fluctuations are man-made, environmental or paranormal in nature.
Some vertices are just spots where you find extremely high energy or electromagnetic fields. Ivan T. Anderson is the founder of the Society for
the Investigation of the Unexplained. He theorized that there are 12 Vile Vertices in the world that interconnect in a particular pattern. Three of
these Vile Vortices are the Bermuda Triangle, Dragon’s Triangle and the South Atlantic Anomaly. These locations have had several instances
of unexplained happenings including the disappearances of aircraft, boats and people. Other unexplained occurrences include equipment
malfunctioning and strange events in these locations too. Many people have disappeared from these areas to never be heard from again. There
are many theories about what these areas exactly are. Are they gateways into another dimension? Is it residual energy left behind from those
who were lost in that area? Is this just a concentrated spot of electromagnetic energy that our technology cannot handle?
There is also an area in Sedona, Arizona where spiritual and sensitive people alike experience a higher sensation of energy. Many of these
individuals have reported experiencing swirling spiritual energy in certain areas. When encountering one of these vortex spots, the feeling
someone gets is described as prickles on the back of your neck and spreads down the top of your back. Many also report getting goosebumps
and the hairs on their body standing on end. These are also some of the experiences people report when they believe they are having a
paranormal encounter. Sedona has been a place for spiritual and sensitive individuals to go to calm themselves, cleanse their souls and to
meditate for many years. Maybe this is why the Native Americans reportedly practiced their healing rituals in the red rocks of Sedona.
Paranormal skeptics and believers alike debate the phenomenon of vortexes. A vortex is reported to appear as a funnel or columnar in shape
and swirls around a center axis. The theory is that a vortex appears just before paranormal activity occurs. Some believe this is a doorway to
the “other side”. Many people who report they have experienced paranormal activity also report feeling an energy which makes their body hair
stand on end. Some also report an overall feeling of uneasiness or dread.
Investigators and scientists have attempted to capture a paranormal vortex in pictures and in video. Sometimes they show up in pictures and
other times they are reportedly seen with the naked eye. There are several pictures and videos out there in cyberworld, all open for
interpretation. The problem is you never know where or when a vortex is going to appear. If there was some way to predict when a vortex was
going to show up, there would be a better chance of obtaining data from it. Are the natural vertices in the world and the paranormal vortexes
related or connected somehow? Some have used smoke/fog machines and laser lights to make the vortex more visible. What do you believe?

Vortexes
Did you ever see what you believe to be a vortex? Do you believe you have ever felt the energy of a vortex?
There is a paranormal tool that you may purchase called the Vortex dome. This piece of equipment measures the surrounding static and will
detect it up to 3 feet away. This will trigger a set of lights on the device to alert you that the static field has been disrupted. Could this device
detect the presence of a vortex?
Whether you’re a believer, a skeptic or somewhere in between, vortices and vortexes are an interesting phenomenon. My hope is that one day
we will be able to find tangible data that explains exactly what these are and what they do. Until then, what do you think?

Rountree Voice Phenomena Recorder (RVPR)

What is a Rountree Voice Phenomena Recorder? In 2013 when we came across some research (from April 2008) that David Rountree was doing
we asked ourselves the same question. In that research Rountree indicates that in all of his years of studying Electronic Voice Phenomena
(EVP), he found a correlation between EVPs and Electromagnetic Fields (EMF). He then built an apparatus (or prototype), called Rountree Voice
Phenomena Recorder, to gather and track this evidence. Rountree has also referred to this apparatus as the Spirit 2000.
This apparatus used condenser and dynamic microphones at the same time to record audio, in stereo, to a computer with each microphone
recording on a separate channel. The condenser microphones will pick up sound waves only , but the dynamic microphones will pick up both
sound waves and Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) simultaneously. During data review the two types of audio can be compared by looking at the
wave patterns using audio software. Any differences in those wave patterns would indicate that audio was recorded from an EMF signal. NOTE: I
am over simplifying the entire apparatus but the details of the apparatus and Rountree’s research can be found in his Electronic Voice
Phenomena Project.
That apparatus and others built by Rountree contained equipment that was just to expensive for most paranormal researchers to be able to afford.
Additionally the setup was so large that it took a large table to hold it all…thus making it not mobile. We really wanted to try this out, but just
couldn’t justify the cost, as well as we wanted something more manageable. Then in 2013 when we found a video released by Paul Browning on
Youtube video that demonstrated how to make a smaller, mobile, and more affordable rig that Browning called the Mobile RVPR Mark II. The
Mark II used a Tascam DR40 and two dynamic mics on a portable stand.
Using that video we purchased the necessary components and built the rig; the rig is not sold as a single unit. We opted to use a Zoom H4N vs as
Tascam DR40, since all you really need is a recorder that has built in condenser microphones and ports to add two external dynamic
microphones. See the photos in this article for an example of our rig. We set the Zoom to record on all 4 channels in stereo and after the
investigation we load the audio from the condenser and the dynamic microphones, at the same time, into Audacity to do the review.
On a side note Paul Browning further modified the Mark II by adding an EMF sensor to create the RVPR (Rountree Voice Phenomena Recorder)
Mark 3. The video for how to make this rig can be found here. Another note is that even though the Mark II is mobile you still can not walk around
holding it and must leave it in a stationary position. This is so that the recordings are not contaminated by the movement of the rig.
In 2014 we purchased the necessary components to assemble both a Mark II and a Mark III and have used it a few times in the last 3 years. At
this time we have no “evidence” to support the theory nor dispute it, but we will continue to use the rig in our research of the paranormal.

Have you or someone you know had a "near death experience"?
Many years ago my Grandfather had a heart attack and went in for a triple bypass surgery. During the surgery his heart stopped for a few
minutes. Thankfully they were able to bring him back. He was in a coma for awhile but when he woke up, he told everyone about an amazing
“dream” he had. He remembered seeing a bright light and the feeling of floating. As he got nearer to the white light, he started seeing all of his
loved ones that had passed away. He saw his brother and then his father. His father had his arms crossed in front of him and had his back
towards my Grandfather (they weren’t on good terms with each other). He saw his mother, who came up to him and put her hand on his
shoulder and told him “Marvin, It’s not your time yet. You have to go back, but before you do, there are a few things I have to tell you.” She
then proceeded to tell him things. They were things about family members that he was unaware of at the time. Was it a dream? He could of
just overheard things being said and whispered about while he was in a coma, or was it something else? I personally believe i t was real and not
a dream but the debate continues in our family.

Famous Haunts
Burn Brae Mansion has a long and interesting history. Located in Glen Spey New York, in the southeast corner of the state, Burn Brae
Mansion was built in 1907 by Margaret Ross MacKenzie Elkin. It was built as part of the estate of George Ross MacKenzie. George Ross
MacKenzie was the third president of the Singer Sewing Machine Company. His main task as president was that of advisor and confidant to
Isaac Merritt Singer, the company’s founder.
George Ross MacKenzie died in 1892 at which time he had an estate valued at 3.5 million dollars. Margaret later remarried to Charles Elkin. It
is Margaret and Charles who had Burn Brae Mansion built after seven of the children had also built summer mansions. Burn Brae Mansion was
the last mansion built by the family and remains as one of the three mansions still standing.
Mike and Pat Fraysse are the current owners of Burn Brae Mansion. They have done extensive renovations on it bringing it back to its original
glory. It is currently being used as a bed and breakfast. Located nearby, on the ground of former horse stables, is a 12-room hotel.
Claims have been made of paranormal activity in the mansion over the past four decades by both the current owners and guests. Many of
these claims include doors opening and slamming, balls being bounced, and the voices of children. Apparitions that have been seen include a
man wearing clothes from the turn of the century, a woman in white clothing, and a man, who appears to be more modern, wearing overalls.
Guests of the mansion often report hearing animal sounds even though no animals are around ant the time and, organ music even though there
is no organ in the mansion.
In more recent times, it is believed that an older couple that had died at the mansion can still be seen playing chess. The classical music that
the gentleman was fond of playing can still be heard as well as wonderful smells of baking that his wife would often do on the property.

Eternal Life: a promise which has always seemed, well... let’s say... somewhat out of reach...
But then, whoever was it who told us that such a state might be attainable to Earth-bound mortals?
I’m not sure – was it Jesus? And then, would any of us actually consider this sort of eternal life a blessing? I doubt it... Maybe more the
opposite, especially if this life was viewed as the template for all lives to come!
But what if it wasn’t – and some bolder vision was able to take center stage in our lives – what then?
What if talk of ‘eternal life’ was never supposed to be about human life alone, but to go much further and address the infini te power of the spirit
which simply finds a passing home in our human bodies, on planet Earth. Seen in this light, our human bodies are the vehicles that both carry
and are born along by the Great Spirit; and like all vehicles, they eventually wear out and are recycled. Yet the spirit carries on – eternally.
But when I refer to ‘we’ who or what exactly do I mean? Who are ‘we’? Could it be that ‘we’ are in fact as much spirit as we are third density
corporeal beings? If so, well... maybe we could have some serious role in the drama called eternal life after all! Soaring upwards on our
mission like Buzz Light-year winging his way “To infinity ... and beyond”
Maybe up until now, we have been misled by the fact that the inquiry has centered around whether or not it is possible ‘to have eternal life’.
For in the possessive verb ‘have’ we find a lack of movement – a lack of dynamic. Life is not, after all, a possession. And lest we forget, the
movement is the one constant of universal physics... we cannot actually stand still... although by not intentionally grasping the joy of
movement, we can stagnate; which is probably the closest one can come to ‘no movement’ and in that sense – death.
Yet as we know, the physical body has a limited life, breaking down into various forms of biological matter after completing its role in this life.
In fact, in its state of decomposition – it still goes on – and also never stops moving. However, like all physical forms within third density
existence, the process can be measured by time and is subject to the laws of gravity.
But then take a good look at these physical forms under a powerful microscope – and lo and behold they lose their three-dimensional
fixedness – and start swirling around – in a wild dance of atoms. That’s us!
No need to head out for the party – it’s here and now! And the passage of time never diminishes this great dance – only transforms it.
So here we can see that ‘eternal life’ most probably really does exist and a snapshot of that eternal life is also observable at the subatomic
quantum level. At this level, the process of transformation of even the minutest visible particles can be observed – as was the case of

The Challenge of Eternal Life
quantum physicist Neils Bohr – to shift enigmatically between a speck, a wave and a dance; while simultaneously, the absolute
objectivity of perception of the viewer was called into question – because the viewer and what he/she views are not so distinct –
but both part of one collective expression: Life.
The dancing wave under the microscope could equally be, in part, the vibrational input of the viewer and not simply the way a
distant object behaves. Thus, the quantum experiment greatly expanded our awareness of the interactivity of what was previously
considered ‘subject’ and ‘object’.
Eternal Life then is something we do access after all – so long as we get to realize who that ‘we’ is!
Hmm... did I say that already? Are we going around in a circle? No, not quite, because the Universe is actually not circular but an
ellipse. . and the distinction is important. It is due to the ellipse that the power of magnetism gains enough strength to bend the
light around stars on its way to Earth. A ‘bending’ which was brought to our attention by Albert Einstein.
Thus, life is not circular, we never return to exactly where we started on our great voyage but move up a notch on the completion
of each revolution or cycle of life – often measured in periods such as seven, ten or fourteen years etc..
Observed from the outside, this could look like moving along one coil of a multi-coiled spiral. In moving onto the next loop of the
coil we pass over the place where we were (so to speak) say seven years back; possibly even picking up some peripheral
resonance – and memory – from the energy manifestation of that time. This, due to the fact that the ellipse creates points at
which our journey moves closer to or further away from certain key transforming points. Just as, for example, Earth experiences
more intense manifestations of (climatic) energy at winter and summer solstices – and when passing closer to or further from our
sun and various planetary forces.
That our lives move in this spiral formation is due to a mix of forward propulsion and gravity – particularly the ellipse inspired
gravity that is particular to this Universe.
Given the universality of spirit energy – with which our spirit is inseparable – it does become possible to speak about ‘living
forever’ and being ‘infinite spirit’.
Although initially balking at the notion, it no longer seems quite so implausible... that in some way we really do live forever –
forming endless links in an ongoing and inseparable chain of wave-like movements. These words come to you from a window

The Challenge of Eternal Life
that has just opened in the vast flowing current of this endless river.
At the point of transformation called death, the corporeal responds to gravity and goes downwards while the spirit defies gravity and is drawn
upwards. At this point ‘we’ – provided we have embraced life with a certain fullness – are expressed as Spirit, and go with the uplift.
Once we allow ourselves to be subsumed into our universal origins – and destinies – we cannot separate our life span from that of this
Universe which is our eternal home. A home which itself will eventually experience its own death and rebirth on the vast macrocosmic scale of
the greater cosmos.
So we should rejoice in that which gives momentum to this ever expanding Creation. A Creation in which each of our lives plays their part, as a
guiding force, and in which our memories form a collective well which can only be described as bottomless.

Kerri Spillers
Investigator, Case Manager, and Social Media Coordinator
Kerri grew up in Crete and now resides in Park Forest with her husband Dave and sons. She has a BA in Psychology and has worked as a
case manager in the mental health field. Kerri is currently a stay at home mom raising her fours sons. Her hobbies include physical fitness,
spinning classes, dancing, reading, and spending time with her family. Over the years, Kerri has had a few "unexplainable" experiences which
sparked her curiosity with the paranormal. With the help of the paranormal shows her curiosity turned into wanting to be on a team to try and
find what is out there.
