A Burbank Historical Minute: 1911-2011If you’ve been enjoying our “Burbank Historical Minutes,” be sure to mark your calendar for Saturday, July 9, at 2 PM.

Mike McDaniel and Wes Clark, creators of Burbankia.com, will be giving an illustrated talk, “History, Lore, and Fun Facts About Burbank” at the Buena Vista Branch Library.

Burbank Book Festival a Success!

Burbank author Stefanie Girard demonstrated some craft ideas to an avid audience from her book, “Sweater Surgery: How to Make New Things With Old Sweaters.”

The Burbank Public Library hosted a Book Festival on May 7th as part of the City’s Centennial Celebration. Over 600 people turned out for the three-hour event that offered guest speakers, special children’s activities and spot-lighted 57 of Burbank’s 100+ authors.

The authors had an opportunity to network with their colleagues as well as meet and greet the public. Three mini-workshops focused on writing and pub-lishing. Aspiring writers were able to interact with local writer’s organizations Sisters in Crime, Romance Authors of Los Angeles, and local bookstores Dark Delicacies and House of Secrets.

David Shannon, author/illustrator of the No, David! books (and Burbank author) was a hit as a crowd of 100 settled on the lawn to listen to his storytell-ing. Then he spent the rest of the afternoon autographing books for his young fans. Children were also able to get their photo taken with Peter Rabbit and make a Mother’s Day craft to take home.

It was a simply marvelous day!
