‘Reading With The Nation’ National Simultaneous Story Time Wednesday 22nd May at 11.00am
Hi everyone! Well, I thought this term would be quieter but we have already had a very busy week organising many learning and sport events! Most importantly, on Friday 17th May and Monday 20th May, the teachers, students and parents/carers will meet to discuss the student’s Personal Learning Plans, including individual learning needs and goals. We are all working together to support students to achieve their personal best. A note was sent home on Monday informing parents/carers of their interview day/time. Please be prompt as we have allocated 10 minutes per student. If you require a change please contact me asap. The Southern Riverina Cross Country was postponed due to adverse weather conditions. Sienna, Paige, Toby, Abby, James, Madison, Rhys and Mason will be running in this event on Friday 17th May. Good luck! Our Walbundrie Small Schools PSSA Netball Knockout team will play their first game against Holbrook at Burrumbuttock courts on Wednesday 22nd May at 10.00am. Thank you to Narelle McKimmie and Rachel Koschitzke for helping prepare for this game. Paige, Sienna and Abby will be representing our school. The Paul Kelly Cup was also postponed due to adverse weather—it is being held on Friday 24th May at Culcairn. Toby, Max, James and Izack will be representing our school in the Walbundrie Small Schools team. Enjoy boys! I am attending the National Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher, (HALT), Summit in Darwin next week. This is an annual event for teachers who have National accreditation at Highly Accomplished or Lead Level. As a Lead Teacher, I am attending to continue the professional conversation about expanding our impact on learners, colleagues and the profession as a whole. We will work together in workshops, school visits and masterclasses to explore best practice to increase student achievement by improving teachers’ assessment and impact through instructional leadership. School Photos were taken on Tuesday 7th May. Thank you for ensuring students were wearing their full winter school uniform. Orders can be made online if needed. Thank you to the P&C for organising the Mother’s Day stall. There were a lot of happy children and many relieved dads I’m sure! I hope all mums enjoyed their day. The next P&C Meeting will be held on Tuesday 11 June at 7pm, Mr Mott will be sharing an update on what’s happening in our gardens to enhance student learning. All welcome! The Year 3 & 5 students have been completing the NAPLAN Assessment tests this week. One to go tomorrow—Numeracy. Well done to these students for their concentration and perseverance. These tests are externally marked and each student will receive detailed results. The teachers use these assessments, (and classroom assessments), to guide their teaching programs. The Kinder students, (with the assistance of our Yr. 6 Leaders), will be running assembly next Wednesday at 3pm. Regards Lynne Johnston, Principal

Banksia Room with Miss Merrilees
Banksia students have been writing their own procedures including: how to make slime, pizza and zucchini slice. Peter challenged himself to write the entire recipe for zucchini slice based on memory. We followed his procedure step by step and included every ingredient to successfully make a delicious zucchini slice. Well done Peter!
Students have been using arrays to help solve multiplication algorithms. We made a city to demonstrate our learning . Well done to year 1 for presenting and sharing their knowledge of arrays during last weeks assembly.

In Science this term we have been exploring forces. A force is an external influence that can change the motion, direction or shape of objects. Examples of forces include pushes, pulls, friction, gravity and magnetism. In one experiment we observed the effects of a larger push vs a smaller push and discussed how the larger push had more momentum and the smaller had less momentum . In another experiment we built a LEGO machine to demonstrate pulling..
