About the Department

The goal of the Business School at Yeditepe University is to educate students to be successful in their fields by acquiring information and skills which will enable them to build careers that match the demands of the 21st century. We have designed a curriculum to meet the demands of contemporary work places. Our vision is the global effectiveness of our students who can work in a variety of public and private organizations.

Our faculty consists of members who have received their education and life experiences from international sources. Class discussions as well as courses are in English. The majority of our classes require reports and presentations that take place also in English. We emphasize the importance of interpersonal skills and communication. The department requires student internship as a part of graduation. Often those students who start out as interns end up being hired by the companies where they interned. We are very proud of these outcomes.

Yeditepe MBA began with the onset of Yeditepe University twelve years ago. The MBA program pioneered an evening degree for those students who work during the day. Our faculty consisted of CEOs in the field as well as academicians internationally known. It has been an overwhelming success. In the upcoming years other universities in Turkey used our model as a benchmark for establishing their own programs. We are the first university to offer an evening MBA program in Turkey, and the MBA program continues to be one of our most creative and popular endeavors.

In 2008, we proudly graduated the first ten doctorate business administration students. Our doctorate of philosophy program is superior. We offer four concentration areas, Finance, Marketing, Management and Organizational Behavior. Our doctorate students hold high level of positions in private sector companies and public organizations. Often times these graduates teach classes at universities. In fact, some of them simultaneously pursue academic and business careers.

Business students have the option of participating in a study abroad program. Some of these programs have been established as a direct exchange with foreign universities, and others take place through the Erasmus program. As much as our students benefit from this scholarly exchange, so do students who come to our campus from Europe, Asia, Latin America, America and Canada, and the Far East. In fact, several of our foreign students have been able to come to Yeditepe University through the scholarships presented to them by our university or the international exchange student programs.

All of our students enjoy our beautiful and unique campus. We are situated in a pine forest; our structures are contemporary replicas of the Selçuk period in Turkish history. The university sponsors endless national and international conferences, cultural activities, and business fairs. Many of our business students are active participants of several business clubs. Yeditepe University is well known for all the indoor and outdoor sport activity facilities.

Our organizational culture is student friendly, competent, and stands ready to serve the developmental and intellectual needs of our student body. The testimonials presented below attest to the overwhelming respect our students feel about the business administration department. Why business administration?

In the beginning of the 20th century, the response to the social, economic and political changes brought an increase in the demand for goods and supplies. Previous to that time, there were many commerce schools that trained employees; however, soon these schools became insufficient for the needs of rapidly growing markets. In particular, during the 1950s, it became apparent that professionally educated members of business were needed in all types of business organizations, whether they are in industry, or in the service sector. Furthermore, with the demise of the Soviet Union in the 1990s, the independence of European states, and the rapid globalization through internet usage, required the broadening of education in the field of business, commerce and economics. The foundation for an international perspective, thus, the internalization of organizations, has since been set into place.

The goal of the Business School at Yeditepe University is to educate students to be successful in their fields by acquiring information and skills which will enable them to build careers that match the demands of the 21st century. We have designed a curriculum to meet the demands of contemporary work places. In this regard our department keeps up with current technological developments, structural changes, and management styles and communications systems. Our vision is the global effectiveness of our students who can work in a variety of public and private organizations.

Our faculty consists of members who have received their education and life experiences from international sources. The Department, which is the largest one on the campus with approximately its 2000 students both at undergraduate and graduate level, has 30 full time, nearly 20 part time instructors and 6 research assistants. The faculty’s contributions to developing minds allow students to embrace diversity in terms of subject matter as well as employment. We also host visiting professors coming from different parts of the world at times.

The Business curriculum is designed to prepare the next generation of managers and leaders to function effectively in a rapidly changing global environment that require continuous learning, analytical thinking and strategic management. The business students gain a generalist orientation coupled with an individually chosen specialized focus in such areas as Management, Finance, Accounting, Organizational Behavior, Human Resources Management, Marketing, Operations Management, Entrepreneurship, E-commerce and Information Technology Management. Furthermore, students are furnished with the knowledge, and ability for both conducting and evaluating research projects in the field of management and organization at our computer laboratories. Moreover, our students can join numerous exchange programs, and may join the academic programs of international universities both in Europe and USA.

The course of study leading to the Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration covers a period of four years. The curriculum for the first two years in the Department of Business Administration is designed to give students a general foundation in the entry-level business administration courses in addition to courses in the fields of natural sciences, humanities and social sciences. During the last two years, students take required advanced courses in each of the basic concentration areas of business administration such as accounting, finance, management, marketing, e-business, production and operations management, etc. In addition, students choose more specialized courses in their area of interest (concentration), to reach the total amount of courses required for the degree.

Below, the list of concentration areas offered at the Department of Business Administration is presented:

Accounting & Finance Concentration Overview“The Accounting & Finance” concentration is dedicated to provide a quality education in accounting and finance at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Undergraduate courses offer a solid foundation in accounting and finance theory and practice along with a broad knowledge of the fundamentals in business and economics. The program meets the highest available standard of achievement and commitment to continuous improvement. Highly motivated students, supportive alumni, and dedicated faculty are all integral to this recognition of quality of our program. This concentration leads to careers in; Business and Industry, Government, Non-profit Organizations and Education and our graduates can work as auditors, business advisors, personal financial planners, tax advisors, and the similar.

Marketing & E-Business Concentration Overview“The Marketing” area focuses its research and teaching on two broad areas of study: Customer and product management. Customer management includes study of customer behavior, customer equity and Internet strategy. Product management involves new product marketing and branding strategies. Faculty members build their teaching around these topics, continually introducing students to new knowledge that both they and other leading scholars from around the world have developed. This concentration leads to careers in sales, sales management, advertising, and retailing as well as marketing management.

Management Concentration Overview“The Management” area focuses its teaching and research on three broad areas designed to increase knowledge in areas considered fundamental for successful leaders and organizations. These areas are: strategic management, organizational behavior, human resources, and management. With emphasis on these subjects, students in this concentration develop outstanding leadership, managerial skills, and interpersonal skills. This concentration leads to careers in almost every sector of corporate world ranging from sales to marketing to human resources in business organizations as well as non-business organizations.

Production Management Concentration Overview“The Production Management” area focuses on teaching and research in the areas of manufacturing and service operations. Strong analytic expertise in the areas of modeling, applied statistics, computer applications and data analysis are extensively reviewed as they relate to process management. This concentration leads to careers in systems & process design, in addition to providing management expertise in organizations including high technology companies.

Course Descriptions

AFE 123 Advanced English I Prerequisite: None Credit (3 + 0 + 0) 3

Reading sessions of this course focus on business idioms and key concepts of business and economics in English. Writing sessions focus on appropriate style for academic English. Topics include description, definitions and exemplification, comparison and contrast, reports and research papers...etc. BUS 103 Introduction to Business Prerequisite: None Credit (3 + 0 + 0) 3

This course is designed to acquaint students with today’s business world by introducing foundations and challenges of starting, growing and managing business in a global environment; focusing on fundamentals and functions of management such as key leadership and management skills, vision, ethical standards and strategic management, and essentials of planning, organizing, directing and controlling; exploring the strategic importance of major business functions such as marketing, human resources, accounting and finance. The course aims to provide students with a contemporary view of business strategies for competitive advantage, and to allow them to explore skills and capabilities required for success in their business careers. ECON 111 Introduction to Economics I Prerequisite: None Credit (3 + 0 + 0) 3

The aim of this course is to introduce the students with the basic concepts of microeconomics and its analytical tools. Major topics covered include supply and demand analysis, various market structures, the theory of firm and the theory of distribution. HUM 101 Humanities I Prerequisite: None Credit (3 + 0 + 0) 3

This is a course for students in their first semester. Its aim is to give a survey of the history of civilizations, art and technology. It will be supported by slide shows and tapes.

LAW 101 Introduction to Law Prerequisite: None Credit (3 + 0 + 0) 3

The purpose of this course is to inform the students about the general principles of law such as justice equity and sources of law. The sources of current legal rules may be found in Roman Law or practices or moral laws applied in bygone ages. The topics will also include the collection of contemporary legal rules, the positive business law on which a Commercial Court bases a decision.

MATH 171 Calculus I Prerequisite: None Credit (3 + 0 + 0) 3

These courses provide the mathematical basis for students of management and economics by introducing them to the most important mathematical tools and methods that are needed in business, and economics context. The topics covered are mainly matrices and vectors, linear equations sequences and series, integration and functions.

BUS 104 Social Psychology Prerequisite: None Credit (3 + 0 + 0) 3

The purpose of this course is to orient the students to the role society plays on influencing the individual in his / her perception of the “self” as well as society to develop awareness regarding personal choices. Major topics that are covered include gender roles, social perception, attitudes, conformity and conflict, stress and group behavior.

ECON 122 Introduction to Economics II Prerequisite: None Credit (3 + 0 + 0) 3

This course focuses on the introductory level macroeconomics, which deals with the economy as a whole, or its basic subdivisions like households, private firms and government to enable the students to understand the economic policies. Major topics include national income, growth, unemployment and monetary system. HUM 102 Humanities II Prerequisite: None Credit (3 + 0 + 0) 3

This course is intended for students in their second semester. It is the continuation of Humanities I. LAW 102 Business Law Prerequisite: None Credit (3 + 0 + 0) 3

This course intends to provide the students with the required legal information to be used in business life. The main issues to be discussed are various types of business associations, types of legal instruments, general types of securities and bills and the related rules of Turkish Commercial Code.

As an introductory course, the “Introduction to Management” is designed to familiarize the students with basic concepts, principles, models, theories, and practices of management. My Coach ProjectThe purpose of this project is to create personal development opportunities for the Yeditepe University Undergraduate senior business students, who are about to graduate. This project aims to help the students in planning their careers in a more visionary manner.

The participating students receive tests, join workshops, and meet extinguished guest speakers during the project. The most important and differentiating characteristic of the project is that some of the high performing students are guided by highly reputable coaches from business life. The coaches meet the students three times during the semester in order to follow their developments and guide them as role models.

At the end of the project the students are expected to get to know themselves and what they are capable of better and ease their decision making process about what they want to do about their carriers in the long term.

Scholarship

University Entrance Scholarship: This particular type of grant is available to those students who have been successful in obtaining a place in the quotas set aside for students who have achieved the required standard in the University Entrance Exams. The scholarship covers the full annual fee and lasts throughout the whole education. In Attendance Scholarship: A student who has regularly attended courses for two semesters at Yeditepe and is among the top three students of his/her department qualifies for this grant.

Grants for Athletic Achievements: Granted to those selected for the university’s certain sports teams, or to registered athletes who have actively participated in individual sports with the related Turkish national team.

Continuing Studies Grants: Granted to İSTEK Foundation graduates who have completed at least three years of education at a İSTEK high school and succeeded in the university entrance exam.

The goal of the Business School at Yeditepe University is to educate students to be successful in their fields by acquiring information and skills which will enable them to build careers that match the demands of the 21st century. We have designed a curriculum to meet the demands of contemporary work places. In this regard our department keeps up with current technological developments, structural changes, and management styles and communications systems. Our vision is the global effectiveness of our students who can work in a variety of public and private organizations.

Our faculty consists of members who have received their education and life experiences from international sources. Their contributions to developing minds allow students to embrace diversity in terms of subject matter as well as employment. Class discussions as well as courses are in English. The majority of our classes require reports and presentations that take place also in English. In fact, one of the strong suits of our program is teaching research and presentations. We emphasize the importance of interpersonal skills and communication. The department requires student internship as a part of graduation. Often those students who start out as interns end up being hired by the companies where they interned. We are very proud of these outcomes.

Yeditepe MBA began with the onset of Yeditepe University twelve years ago. The MBA program pioneered an evening degree for those students who worked during the day. Our faculty consisted of CEOs in the field as well as academicians internationally known. It has been an overwhelming success. In the upcoming years other universities in Turkey used our model as a benchmark for establishing their own programs. We are the first university to offer an evening MBA program in Turkey, and the MBA program continues to be one of our most creative and popular endeavors.

In 2008, we proudly graduated the first ten doctorate business administration students. Our doctorate of philosophy program is superior. We offer four concentration areas, Finance, Marketing, Management and Organizational Behavior. Our doctorate students hold high level of positions in private sector companies and public organizations. Often times these graduates teach classes at universities. In fact, some of them simultaneously pursue academic and business careers.

Business students have the option of participating in a study abroad program. Some of these programs (ERASMUS and similar agreements) have been established as a direct exchange with foreign universities, and others take place through the Erasmus program. As much as our students benefit from this scholarly exchange, so do students who come to our campus from Europe, Asia, Latin America, America and Canada, and the Far East. In fact, a good number of foreign students have been able to come to Yeditepe University through the scholarships presented to them by our university or the international exchange student programs.

1. General Information:

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) program is designed as an effective and contemporary graduate degree for the professionals at all levels of business. The program is for people who wish to further explore their skills and capabilities required for success in their own careers and to update and refresh the knowledge and expertise they earned previously.

2. Entrance Requirements

The candidates should have:

• Four year degree from Turkish University or an equivalent degree received outside of Turkey endorsed by the Higher Education Council (YÖK),

• A minimum score of 55 (equal weight) from the Turkish Academic and Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES), • Taken the English proficiency exam given by the Institute. Those who receive a passing grade on this exam can directly

begin the MBA. Others will be assigned to one of the following levels according to the performance of the candidate on the proficiency exam. These levels are

• Beginner (three semesters) • Intermediate (two semesters) • Advanced (one semester)

• TOEFL IBT (min. 84) or IELTS (min. Academic 5) can be used as replacement for the Yeditepe University proficiency examination.

3. Program Contents

The courses in the program are designed to acquaint students with today’s business administration world by focusing on the foundations and challenges of starting, growing and managing businesses in a global environment. The philosophy and the structure of the MBA program, with accumulated experience of its highly qualified academic personnel, current and application based content, fully equipped computer labs, library and cooperation with online academic publications content providers, sets the scene, delivers the tools and presents a suitable environment for the advancement of the students. Students can major in one or two of the following tracks with the electives properly selected:

Students may select either “with dissertation” or “without dissertation” program within the regulations of the Social Sciences Institute. These students should present and defend their thesis that they have written in English under the supervision of a thesis consultant appointed by the Board of the Institute, to a jury. Students who selected “without thesis” program should, instead of a thesis, take the “Graduation Project” course and complete it with success. 4. Program Duration: The prerequisite courses must be completed within two terms. All the courses must be completed within 6 terms for “with thesis”, and within 4 terms for “without thesis”, program. The thesis is to be completed within 4 terms for “with thesis” program. In both programs, students may defer their admissions up to four terms upon the approval of the Board due to acceptable causes. The requests for deferrals are evaluated for each term. The program duration is 4 terms for “with thesis” program for the ones who are exempt from the prerequisite courses. 5. Program:

For each term (Fall and Spring), in line with the university procedures, students are required to take at least two courses. With the approval of the Board of the Institution, in certain cases, the number of courses for each term may be either increased or decreased. Students, who have graduated from Economy and received a “BB” grade, can be exempted from “ECON” coded preparatory courses regardless of which year they have taken the courses. Students, who have graduated from Business Administration and received a “BB” grade, can be exempted from “BUS” coded preparatory courses regardless of which year they have taken the courses. Students, who have graduated from Business Administration and taken the listed preparatory courses within 3 years and received a BB or higher grade, can be exempted from both “BUS” and “ECON” coded courses: BUS 501 Contemporary Management, ECON 501 Foundations of Microeconomics, ECON 502 Foundations of Macroeconomics, BUS 502 Financial Accounting, and BUS 503 Marketing Management. Attendance to courses is compulsory and absenteeism cannot exceed 20 %.

The passing grade at the MBA program is CC. In the case of getting an “F” grade, the course must be repeated in the subsequent term. In the case of an elective course failure, a different elective course may be taken. The minimum requirements for graduation is GPA=2, 50/4, 00. If a student’s GPA is lower than that at the time of graduation, the student needs repeat some of the courses within the period specified by the Higher Education Council (YÖK).

PREREQUISITE COURSES:

BUS 501 Contemporary ManagementThe course aims to give students the basic concepts of the Management Science through which the students will discover the shortest road to be an effective manager. The course covers mainly the following topics: structure of the organization psychological perspectives of the organizational analysis and management. The design of the human behavior and organizational performance. At the end of this course, students will learn how to set up an effective communication and motivational system to mobilize the personnel toward the target of the organization. This course is supported by various case studies. ECON 501 Foundations of MicroeconomicsThe course presents an overview of microeconomic concepts like scarcity, opportunity cost, marginal analysis, demand, supply and market structures. The primary focus of this course is on how individuals and societies deal with the fundamental economic problem of scarcity. The course begins with a discussion of the methodology of economics and the basic functioning of markets and than individual markets are investigated. ECON 502 Foundations of MacroeconomicsThe course presents an overview of macroeconomic concepts like national income accounting, interest rates, real values versus nominal values, monetary and fiscal policy, balance of payments and economic growth. The course has two main objectives. First, the course is designed to acquaint students with the basic knowledge of macroeconomics. Second, to teach students how to apply these basic rules to the real world issues. BUS 502 Financial AccountingThe course focuses on the nature and purpose of accounting, current assets and long-term investments, property, plant and equipment, intangible assets, liability accounts and owner's equity, principal accounting instruments, valuation problems of depreciable assets and liabilities: preparation, analysis and interpretation of financial statements.

BUS 503 Marketing ManagementThis course will be concerned with the basic principles of the marketing management: Universal concepts and functions, marketing environment, determining the target market and utilizing the product mix, market segmentation, positioning the product, new product development and reducing its failure rate, the product life cycle, strategies for the four Ps, functions of the marketing communications, advertising, and sales management.

ACC 508 Managerial AccountingThis course deals with the use of accounting information for the managerial decision-making. It focuses on preparation of the master budget, flexible budget, standard costing and variance analysis and taking corrective actions. Subjects such as evaluating the overall performance of the company; performance reports, cost-volume-profit relations, breakeven analysis, price bidding analysis, make-or-buy decision, operating leverage, allocation of service department costs, transfer pricing will covered. Specific topics include the need for planning and control, strategic planning, the resource allocation process, organization of the management control function, measurement of inputs and outputs, pricing government services programming, budgeting, reporting and performance evaluation. BUS 502 Research Methodology and Data AnalysisThe art of management which relies on the use of basic scientific approaches, and aims at reaching the true knowledge. In this respect, research methodology serves as an instrument for gathering, organizing, analyzing and interpreting the data both for theoretical and practical reasons. This course is designed to illustrate the application of research methods and techniques to business decision-making. The course objective is to explain the importance of scientific investigation by emphasizing the empirical approach, measurement, evaluation, and to certain extent, the use of software programs to apply essential statistical techniques for data analysis purposes. FIN 504 Corporate FinanceIntroduces and exposes students to corporate financial management; basic investment decision-making techniques and financing decisions both short term (current) and long term. Students will answer what short and long-term investments a firm should take on, how they should be financed. Moreover, students will learn about short and long-term financial planning, valuation of future cash flows, capital budgeting, risk and return, cost of capital, options and corporate structures, mergers and acquisitions. MKT 502 Consumer Behavior: The purpose of the course is to understand the customer with the help of market/consumer research and sciences like psychology, sociology, anthropology. Identifying the customer, theoretical aspects of communication, personality and attitude improvement are also covered in the course. The aim is to attract customers.

MKT 503 Marketing Research: The course covers both sides of marketing research: The researchers doing the research and the marketing executives using the information. The course aims to increase the knowledge of the students with a group project.

A Few Words about the Program

Business Administration Department also offers a highly preferable doctorate program. The Institute of Social Sciences Ph.D. in Business Administration Program accepts student applications once a year, for Fall Semester. Applications are not accepted for Spring semester. The education language of the program is English.

PhD in Business Administration program accepts applications in the following concentration areas:

Accounting and FinanceManagement and OrganizationMarketing ManagementOrganizational Behavior

Application documents listed below should be submitted to the Yeditepe University Institute of Social Sciences in a sealed envelope.Applicants who can prove their English proficiency with the valid test scores listed below can apply to the Ph.D. program. Only those candidates who have proof of English proficiency will be admitted to the written exam. The written exam will be given by the Department of Business Administration.

Interviews: Applicants who have passed the written exam will be invited for an interview on the dates that will be announced in the web site. The interviews will start at 10:00 am. and continue during these days.

Students who are accepted to the program will be determined according to the exam results listed above and the submitted application documents.

An orientation event will be organized for students who are accepted to the program (the orientation date will be announced later).The proof of English proficiency is also required for candidates who had received their undergraduate/graduate degrees from Turkish or foreign universities giving education in English. Yeditepe university graduates are also required to submit their English language test results and the necessary application documents. Candidates who do not have valid TOEFL, IELTS, KPDS or ÜDS test scores can take Yeditepe University English Proficiency Exam.

Applicants will state the track they apply (Accounting & Finance, Management & Organization, Marketing Management or Organizational Behavior) during the written exam given by the Department of Business Administration.

Preparatory Courses: Students who have taken and successfully completed the preparatory courses within the last 5 years with a BB or higher grade may be exempted from taking these preparatory courses. After students are accepted to the program, the preparatory courses that students are exempted will be determined by the related faculty committee. The preparatory course exemptions will be determined by examining the transcripts that candidates submitted in their application packages.

According to Yeditepe University regulations, the maximum time limit to complete the PhD program (including thesis writing period) is 8 semesters. The time period a student takes preparatory courses is not included in this 8 semester time limit. The maximum time limit to finish the preparatory courses is an extra 2 semesters.

Ph.D. classes in Business Administration department are usually offered on weekdays between 19:00-22:00 while some PhD classes are offered during the weekend between 9:30-12:30 or 13:00-16:00.

BUS 601 - Management Philosophy

This course reviews various schools of philosophy impacting the conceptual and theoretical framework of management. Considering the fact that management as a concept combines on one hand normative action and on the other hand socially constructed practice, the dialogue with the classical philosophical body of knowledge such as that of Aristotle becomes vital for understanding and appreciating the dynamics of contemporary management will be discussed.

BUS 602 - Research Methodology I

The course presents advanced methods and the use of software programs for conducting different research projects in the social sciences. Topics to be covered include main scientific approaches, concepts, measurement principles, hypothesis formulation, research strategies, and explanatory type of research design (correlational vs. causal studies), data collection methods with a special emphasis on designing questionnaires and interview schedules, and the preparation of research proposals.

BUS 603 - Research Methodology II

This second part of the course focuses on the use of advanced statistical methods and techniques for data analysis purposes. This course refreshes the statistical knowledge of the students in order to use software programs (SPSS) for data analysis in the social sciences. The course covers basic inferential statistics(parametric and nonparametric procedures) together with the use of more advanced ones such as multiple regressions, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, discriminant analysis, MANOVA, and others depending on the need of students. The students are also required to prepare a research paper using all data analysis and literature.

MGT 701 - Advanced Management and Organization Theory

The course intends to provide an understanding of how organizational structure affects organizational performance at macro level and how current economic & social forces are reshaping our thinking on how a company should be managed and structured both today and in the future. A historical perspective on Organization Theory will enable the students to develop a better appreciation of the process of change, restructuring and recent organizational modeling concepts. Topics to be covered are organization theory and the manager; structure and design; organizational goals and effectiveness; patterns of strategic organizational design; the role of culture, power and politics in organizations, organizational governance and control.

OB 701 - Advanced Seminar in Organizational Behavior

Theory and models of organizational behavior and contemporary research and behavior in organizations are reviewed. Among the topics to be included are motivation, attitudes, leadership, group dynamics, organizational & interpersonal conflict. Students are expected to analyze and research theoretical articles on current issues in organizational behavior. Focus is on building knowledge and improving research skills.

MGT 703 - Special Topics in Human Resource Management

This course aims at attracting the attention of Ph.D. Students to current and future human resource management research issues and topics. It is designed for doctoral students who intend to conduct empirical research publishable in scholarly journals. The objective of the course is to help students gain competence in initiating and conducting pure and applied research. Because of the way the course is conducted the topics to be covered will be determined based upon current issues, and trends, such as employment and job security, executive pay, performance management.

MGT 705 - Seminar in Innovation & Technology

The course is designed to give students an in-depth exposure to the concepts, theories and framework they will need to effectively manage innovation and develop technology strategies for products, processes and services. Identifying and selecting strategic technological opportunities, turning them into profitable opportunities for innovation and required navigational managerial skills for this transition are among the topics to be covered.

MGT 707 - Advanced Seminar in Strategic Management and Corporate Governance

This is a doctoral level case-oriented course focusing on corporate governance and strategic management. This course is intended to consolidate the information accumulated in earlier work to show the interaction of all sub-functions and, problems in an organization. The course tries to furnish the student with the necessary skills and ability in applying their accumulated knowledge to corporate governance and solving the strategic problems of organizations. The course will cover such topical areas as the study of strategic management and business policy, a descriptive model of strategic management, corporate governance and social responsibility, ethical considerations, strategic audit, external environmental scanning and industry analysis, internal environmental scanning and organizational analysis, SWOT analysis, strategy formulation, strategy implementation, evaluation and control, and strategic issues in managing technology and innovation, entrepreneurial ventures and small business, and not-for-profit organizations.

MKT 701 - Advanced Marketing Theory

The course aims at helping Ph.D. candidates develop an appreciation for the intellectual growth of marketing as a discipline. Students will have an opportunity to view the historical growth of the field from an economic to a behaviorally based discipline. By studying multiple articles on each topic, students will gain an understanding of the way academic knowledge is developed as well as being exposed to contemporary social science methods.

MKT 703 - Advanced Consumer Behavior Theory

This course examines important concepts, principles, and theories from the various social sciences in order to describe and explain consumer behavior. Students are encouraged to ask questions and to relate the course material to their own buying experiences and discuss these in class. The purpose of the course is to study the process of consumer choice, its determinants and its implications for marketing programs and public policy. When the students complete this course, they should be acquainted with personal, social and situational factors affecting consumer purchase decisions and understand how these influences can be measured.

MKT 706 - Seminar in Integrated Marketing Communications

The aim of this course is to aid Marketing Ph.D. candidates to study and understand recent articles published in the area of integrated marketing communications both in regard to their theoretical background as well as to their research methodology. The topics covered start with a general ethical point of view in all consumer communications. Then, the measurement of the effectiveness of integrated marketing communication as a broad topic area is studied. Furthermore sponsorships, use of databases in consumer communications, direct marketing, as well as the more recent phenomena of opt-in communication (permission marketing communications) and the increasing importance of word-of-mouth communication with today’s consumers will all be studied as part of integrated marketing communication tools.

MKT 707 - Seminar in Retailing

The aim of this course is to facilitate Marketing Ph.D. candidates to study and comprehend the topic of Retailing via recent and important articles published in academic journals, as well as to provide an insight enabling candidates for further academic studies on this contemporary subject. The topics to be covered in Retailing are; retailing concept, perspectives and trends in retailing, retail theories and formats, retail power, retail customers and customer buying behavior, retailing strategy, store image, store environmental cues, merchandise management, retail pricing and promotion, and finally internationalization of retailing.

MKT 709 - Strategy and Management in Marketing Science

This course will focus on the understanding and evaluation of the philosophy and objectives behind strategy and management in marketing. Strategic and managerial insights in the areas of macromarketing, marketing mix management and strategy, data based marketing, services marketing, consumer behavior, business markets, international marketing, and competitive strategies will be provided in this course with a holistic view. The purpose of this course is to enable students to evaluate, discuss and provide new conceptualizations and further theory construction in these areas linking it to the Management discipline as a whole.

OB 701 - Advanced Seminar in Organizational Behavior The course reviews the theories and empirical applications of organizational behavior and contemporary research. The purpose of the course is to orient specially the doctorate candidates of management track to the dynamics of OB that are presented by the students. Topics include motivation, attitudes, leadership, group dynamics, cultural issues, organizational and interpersonal conflict. Students are expected to analyze and research theoretical articles on current issues in organizational behavior

OB 702 - Seminar in Organizational Psychology

This course reviews psychology in a way how people relate towards each other and the types of relationships that are established as a result of working in an organization. Grasping the principles of motivation is essential in designing work places, which are productive and happy environments. Positive work environments create motivation, empowering relationships, loyalty to the company, identification with the organization and finally, high performance.

OB 704 - Conflict Management and Negotiations Communication skills and conflict management has to be a part of all organizational training and development programs. The more there are educated employees in these subjects, the smoother will running the operations of the organization become. There is a system in how to detect, prevent, negotiate and resolve conflict. These techniques will be taught and cases will be presented. Special attention will be given to multicultural conflict situations, and those situations resulting from the process of transformation.

OB 706 - Organizational Culture, Climate and Leadership In this course we review the concepts of organizational culture, climate and leadership and the interaction between them. The concept of culture will be analyzed from different theoretical perspectives (i.e. behavioral and functionalist approaches). Research shows that those organizations which have established a proper fit between organizational culture and climate prove themselves to be more efficient. Leadership becomes central to the establishment and maintenance of this fit. Today’s leaders have to be contemporary (transactional and transformational) in order to cope with a rapidly globalizing economy. The topics to be covered in this course are: conceptual development of culture and climate, typology of organizational culture, the interdependence between culture and climate, leadership theories, newly emerging leadership perspectives and future directions of organizational development.
