    Bachelor of Business Double Degrees

    Faculty of Business and Economics

    Why study a double degree?

Monash has one of the most comprehensive double degreeprograms in Australia, offering combined degrees across

all faculties and disciplines. A double degree allows you to

study for two degrees, giving you more career flexibility and

opportunities. And in most cases, youll only have to add one

extra year to your degree. A double degree also gives you the

opportunity to explore subjects from a different discipline and

gives you more career opportunities when you graduate.

Lots of students at Monash combine the Bachelor of

Business with another degree. Here are just some of the

    reasons why:

If youre interested in pursuing a career as a visual artist,

journalist, or want to work in health science (just to name

a few), you may ultimately want to become a manager ofa firm, or run your own business. Combining your visual

arts, journalism or health science studies with a Bachelor

of Business gives you the solid business skills youll need

to operate in a business setting.

Combining a Bachelor of Business with an Arts degree

means that you can continue to study a language or

pick up a new one. Arts offers more than 20 different

areas of study, so youll have plenty of options, and majors

like politics or geography can be particularly beneficial if

you have ambitions in international business, politics or

    diplomacy.

    How does it work?

Monash courses include compulsory units (which you must

do), and many offer elective units (which you can choose

    based on your interests).

In a double degree, your compulsory units in one degree

form the electives from the other, and vice versa. So youll

still study the compulsory units to complete each course,

(four units per semester), but the units you study will count

    towards both degrees.

Its a double degree without double the time!

What is the difference between a

double major and a double degree?

A double major is when you specialise in two different areas

within one degree, (for example accounting and international

business, or marketing and economics). In a double major

you will study eight units from each discipline area and

develop strong knowledge in both fields.

A double degree allows you to study two separate degrees at

the same time. The double degrees are structured to enable

you to graduate with both awards in a much shorter timethan it would take to complete the two degrees individually

(usually four years). As well as graduating with two degrees,

you will also possess a greater knowledge of both discipline

areas, because you will have studied additional units in those

disciplines, but youll have the same workload as a single

    degree course.

At Monash we offer tagged degree options, for students who already know what area of specialisation (or major) theyd like to study.

Tagged degrees (those with bracketed majors in their name) have a predefined or compulsory major in a particular field of study such

as accounting, banking and finance, management or marketing.

To find out more about tagged degrees, please refer to page 9 of the 2014 Undergraduate Course Guide, or refer to:

    www.monash.edu/study

We also offer tagged degrees as a double with the Bachelor of Arts, which means you can study a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of

    Business with a specialisation.
