SIDBI - ET India MSE Award

About SIDBISmall Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), established under an Act of the Parliament in 1990, acts as the Principal Financial Institution for Promotion, Financing and Development of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector. Over the years, through its various financial and development measures, the Bank has touched the lives of people across various strata of the society and impacted enterprises over the entire MSME spectrum. The Banks’s footprints as on date includes 9 Regional offices, which aim at improving outreach.

In the context of the changing MSE lending landscape, the role of SIDBI has been realigned through adoption of SIDBI Vision 2.0 which envisages an integrated credit and development support role of the Bank by being a Thought Leader, adopting a credit-plus approach, creating a multiplier effect and serving as an aggregator, in MSE space.

SIDBI has given enhanced focus on Promotion and Development initiatives with theme of Sampark (connect), Sanwad (interaction), Suraksha (security) and Sampreshan (disseminate). Thrust is now on bottom of pyramid, unserved/underserved pockets/segments and overall MSEs. Each engagement is linked to tracking of outcome and Impact.

SIDBI has adopted programmatic approach for fostering inclusivity. Some of the key initiatives include mass connect programme, exposure visit of MSEs, Udyam Abhilasha in 115 aspirational districts, fostering entrepreneurial culture through Swavlamban initiative and so on.

In this series, recognizing the talents and changemakers at micro and small enterprises has been spearheaded to recognize exemplary contributors to entrepreneurial India. This is first of its kind and aims at institutionalizing it with participation of MSE stakeholders.

SIDBI - ET India MSE Award

Brief on AwardsSIDBI has been facilitating the entrepreneurial dreams through its integrated, innovative and inclusive approach. In line with credit plus approach SIDBI has been taking several initiatives for strengthening MSEs ecosystem. SIDBI, Economic Times and CRISIL have joined hands to recognize the achievements of MSEs to encourage and motivate them to raise the bar and give boost to the ‘Make-in-India’ initiative of the Government of India. This shall also go a long way in benefitting the MSE ecosystem.

The awards are aimed to fulfill the expectation from MSE sector across the country for recognizing their illustrative contribution in the development of the nation. The objective is also to recognize the contribution of the MSEs which have established themselves as role models for other MSEs besides acknowledging and disseminating the information about the contributions by these MSEs in various sectors of economy.

This recognition is expected to further motivate MSEs to be more transparent, imbibe best business and governance practices which will in turn help in attracting both investors and lenders.

The award in lenders’ category recognizes the Banks and NBFCs who are having special focus on MSEs

About 4,700 nominations were made across the categories. CIRISIL shortlisted 280 MSEs, 10 MSE in 28 categories each. 120 MSE were referred to an expert panel which recommended 55 MSE for Jury. The 27 awardees were selected in a transparent manner by a panel of eminent jury.

The MSE should also be the first to introduce the innovative concept in India and must have patented the same.

C. YOUNG MSE ACHIEVER: First generation entrepreneur having an excellent track record of establishing and leading a profitable business.

D. WOMAN MSE ACHIEVER: An outstanding woman entrepreneur who holds majority stake in her business and has shown an excellent record in establishing and leading a successful business.

E. ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY MSE: Best initiative taken by MSE to be environment friendly either in terms of product or process.

F. BEST MSE EXPORTER : Sustainable export business model generating maximum percentage of revenue and profit from exports to various countries.

Nature of business: Manufacturing

Astra Concrete Products has been engaged in the manufacturing of construction materials for two decades now. It specialises in fibre concrete spacers, distance tubes, sealing cones and rebar protection caps.

The promoter, Shrikant Parulekar has more than three decades’ experience in the industry.

The firm pioneered the introduction of concrete spacers (cover blocks) in India and has also undertaken several projects in both India and abroad.

It has been exporting its products to countries like New Zealand, Japan, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Malta, Cyprus, Israel and Mauritius since 2005. Around 60% of its revenue comes from exports.

Bright Engineering Works has been engaged in manufacture of precision components, mainly CNC turned, milled, and ground parts, for various industries since 1987.

Confident Engineering was set up as All Tech Machine Tools, a proprietorship firm, K Subramaniam in 1976. In 2002, the firm was reconstituted and renamed itself Confident Engineering.

The company offers water and wastewater treatment solutions. It is engaged in manufacturing, installation and servicing of wastewater treatment plants and equipment. Its products are mainly used in the textile industry to recycle the waste water for reusing in the plant. It also manufactures products for wastewater treatment plants for sewage.

The company has installed treatment plants using an innovative electro-coagulation technology in many countries. Some of its products include effluent treatment plant systems, salt recovery systems, activated sludge biological systems, electro-coagulation systems, reverse osmosis systems, and ultra-filtration systems. Green Morning Horticulture Private Limited has been engaged in transplanting trees and providing landscape and gardening and nursery services since 2014. The company has transplanted more than 8,000 trees for projects such as widening of roads and installing of rail and electricity lines. It has translocated more than 93 different species, with an average survival rate of 85% for the transplanted trees. It has also successfully relocated trees with more than 6-metre girth and 150 tonne root ball.

Established as a proprietorship in 1962, A.Paul Instruments Co. manufactures advanced industrial computing systems for applications used by the railway and transport sectors. The company provides IoT design and services, and conducts research and development (R&D) in-house. It has two manufacturing units – an electronic systems design and manufacturing (prototype) centre at New Delhi (an R&D centre) and a 35,000 sq ft integrated EMS unit at Faridabad.

It has built and expanded expertise in latest technologies including the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence and machine learning, block chain and fintech, product engineering, and digital publishing, to serve customers better.

The Bank has network of 1300 specialized SME Intensive and MSE branches for faster & seamless processing of their loan requests & also to ensure smooth delivery of credit to MSEs. SBI has developed an extensive line of products to MSEs.

To capture the lower segment (up to Rs. 100 lacs) of MSE loans, SBI is aggressively pushing lending through MUDRA, CGTMSE. SBI has always played a vital role in implementation of various government initiatives, schemes & projects. Under CLP, 13000 MSEs have been on boarded to CLP with 20 percent market share. Bank is aggressively marketing Supply Chain finance products under tie-up with Industry Majors (IMs) for financing their dealers and vendors. Bank is offering a vigorous MIS platform for dealers, vendors and IMs with complete information

on transactions. SBI has tied-up with around 250 Industry Majors. Bank has made tie-up with major e-Commerce player Amazon & Flip Kart and are expecting to leverage the partnership in terms of growth in MSE loans Bank has already on-boarded to TReDS platforms viz. RXIL (Receivable Exchange of India Ltd.) and M-ONE (Mynd-Online National Exchange) and getting good business under this new initiative. TReDS (Trade Receivables Discounting System) is an online platform to provide financing to MSMEs through discounting their receivables online from the large Corporates/PSUs/Government Dept through an auction mechanism. This aims to address the problem of inadequate and expensive finance of MSMEs. .

SBI is also working on providing end to end digital solution for small value Mudra loans i.e. upto Rs. 50,000. It is creating a digital platform to finance against Warehouse Receipts (WHR). A Central Commodity Desk at Corporate Center, Mumbai is under process to collate the prices and monitor the fluctuation in prices of the commodities.

The Bank understands that MSE lending is not just lending money but nurturing and developing the entrepreneurial spirit of millions of risk-takers.
