The College is seeking the services of a dynamic and committed Business Manager with the necessary business and financial management expertise and experience also with broader administrative and facilities management suitable for a school environment. The successful applicant for this senior position will have: Qualifications and experience in business and financial management Excellent communication skills Computer literacy, including experience with financial software Experience with or an understanding of facilities management A willingness to support the Christian ethos of the College The Business Manager will be responsible for: Overall business and financial operation of the College Human resource management of non-teaching staff Oversight of property management Occupational Health and Safety Contributing to Strategic Planning as a member of the College Leadership Team Experience of or an appreciation of the operations and culture of a P-12 College is preferred. Key tasks and expectations The Business Manager is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the business, financial, administrative and facilities management functions of Lakeside College. This includes financial and management reporting and oversight of creditor, debtor, and income billing activities and managing the maintenance and development of the school campus. The Business Manager is responsible to the Principal and is a member of the College leadership team. The following information provides greater detail of the role requirements, responsibilities and accountabilities. 1) Professionalism

a) Demonstrate commitment to the provision of Christian education in the Lutheran tradition and uphold the teachings of the Lutheran Church of Australia;

b) Build and maintain student, colleague and parent relationships in keeping with our Christian ethos; c) Ensure behaviour at all times sets the standard for staff and students; d) Undertake training to meet Lutheran Education Australia accreditation; e) Participate in professional development activities relevant to areas of responsibility; f) Keep abreast of current thinking in education business and financial matters. An appropriate

Professional Learning Network should be maintained; g) Maintain a current Professional Development Plan in collaboration with the Principal; h) Work as part of a team to maintain smooth College operations; i) Attend staff meetings; j) Attend staff devotions and lead staff devotions regularly; k) Attend out of hours events and meetings as required to fulfil the role’s requirements including

College Council meetings; l) Maintain an appropriate standard of dress following College guidelines;

m) Be punctual at all times out of respect to all in the College community; n) Follow College communication guidelines at all times, including use of email in keeping with

procedures; o) Adhere to all College policies; p) Fulfil duties as set out in this document and as requested by the Principal in the knowledge that

duties left undone may result in greater workload for others. 2) Responsibilities

a) Contribute to the development of and support the implementation of the College’s Strategic Plan; b) Financial planning and the preparation of budgets; c) Keeping informed of the most effective methods of obtaining both Government funding and other

sources of funds including fundraising; d) Controlling income and expenditure; e) Overseeing all bookkeeping and accounting procedures of the College, including ensuring the

adequacy of the accounting software used by the College; f) Overseeing family invoicing and collection of fees, paying suppliers and managing debtors and

creditors g) Arranging the College’s borrowing program in such a way as to best serve the interests of the

College; h) Overseeing the management of insurances; i) Working with Lutheran Education Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania to ensure the most

effective level of Government funding for the College, both as to recurrent expenditure and for capital works;

j) Ensuring the compliance of the College with the PAYG, FBT and GST requirements of the Australian Taxation Office and act as the Public Officer of the College for those purposes;

k) Overseeing the preparation of statutory and government returns; l) Having financial oversight of the management and operation of PTFA activities; m) Advising the Council and the Principal on priorities for property maintenance and new works; n) Supervising the progressive development of the College’s grounds and facilities; o) Ensuring that the asset register is maintained and up to date; p) Developing and implementing a risk management regime for all aspects of operational risk,

including OH&S; q) Managing College emergency management and procedures; r) Supervising non-teaching staff including administration, gardening, maintenance, cleaning, and ICT; s) Oversee the operations of front office; t) Responsibility for writing employment contracts for Teaching and Non-Teaching staff which

includes developing and maintaining a working knowledge of the Enterprise Bargaining Agreements in force within the school and the National Employment Standards;

u) Working in collaboration with the Principal and his/her delegates to understanding the issues relating to ICT in achieving the education and administration goals of the school;

v) Advising on proposed ICT capital purchases and infrastructure; w) Actively participating in relevant bodies, including Lutheran Education VIC, NSW & TAS, Lutheran

Education Business Managers group, Independent Schools Victoria and the Association of School Business Administration Ltd.

The College is currently seeking a suitability experienced person to join our executive leadership team as the College Business Manager. The Business Manager serves the Lakeside College community by leading the community in financial sustainability and resource stewardship. • An active Christian faith and a willingness to uphold the ethos of the Lutheran Church of Australia

• Experience working in educational institutions (preferably a member of ASBA)

• Formal business/commerce qualifications at a tertiary level and CPA/CA qualifications

• Good communication skills, verbal and written

• Thorough understanding of accounting and bookkeeping procedures

• A high degree of competence in organisational matters related to supervising building projects and related activities

• A high level of proficiency in Information Technology including Microsoft Excel

• Awareness of contemporary issues and practices in financial administration, particularly in the context of management of a non-government school

• Understanding of Church, State and Commonwealth requirements for the financial management of a non-government school

• A current working with children’s check or ability to gain one
