Brothers and Sisters: First and foremost I would like to thank all the members who took the time to vote in our Locals election. I would also like to thank the membership for electing me to a fifth term as your Business Manager and Financial Secretary. Even though my office, as well as some of the other offices, was unopposed, the election process is still a vital part of our Union’s democracy and our International Union’s democracy as well. I would hope, and also would like to think, that the members of this Local are pleased with the leadership of its officers and likes the direction our Local has been heading. I never have and I never will take my position for granted. I just hope you know I will continue to do my best in representing Local 158. Congratulations to the other officers, and thank you to all those that have just served. We have open calls continuing here at the

BHI for Point Beach Nuclear Plant. We

continue to refer people to multiple

contractors for all classifications. We are in

need of JOURNEYMEN. Please if you know

a non-union JW, have them contact us to

discuss the opportunities here at Local 158.

The work picture looks to continue to be

strong here in our jurisdiction.

We held our election this month, and I

would like to thank everyone who voted in

the election. I know there was one race for

Executive Board to vote for, but those

positions are very important to the overall

process of our business.

With the amount of work in the area, our

membership numbers are growing rapidly.

This a good sign for the Local.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Hello Brothers and Sisters, We continue to bring in new members from our three job fairs held last month. With some new membership applications, we have almost brought in twenty people who attended our events. The new members being brought in has helped make the events a success and I would like to thank again all those that helped. Tim Anhalt from the state apprenticeship coordinators office, Jesse Jacques, and Marsha Nebel for helping at the three events to explain our apprenticeship program to new applicants. International reps Robert Koerschner, Jim Dotson, and Mark Toaz, and Local 906 organizer Kurtis Monroe for helping with house calling in the Upper Peninsula in the days leading up to the event. SoC Dave Jungbluth as well as Local organizers Jon Chermack(LU 14), Casey Healy(LU 159), Guy Lepage(LU 388), Todd Pauly(LU 494), Dan Rickel(LU 577), Jason Heidenreich(LU 890), and Jim Meyer(LU 2150) for helping with house calling in Green Bay and the surrounding areas and to run the events. Our Local Business Manager Don Allen, NECA rep Loyal O’Leary and the LMC for providing the support to run these events. Milwaukee Tool for donating a selection of hand tools used as door prizes for the event. Lastly the employers; Pieper Power, Paynecrest Electric, Elmstar Electric, Hubbartt Electric, and B&B Electric who attended to offer work opportunities to attendees. Thanks again to all who helped in this undertaking.

Last month I also had a couple of late volunteer opportunities through

our work with Rebuilding Together of Greater Green Bay. Thank you, Nick Borkovec, Russel Metoxen, and Preston Barstow, for your assistance with these house projects. We helped address some unsafe conditions for these homeowners fixing some issues with light switches, bathroom fans and garage wiring.

As the month goes on inqueries continue to come in from outreach we had from our postcards and flyers from the job fairs. Our Local’s jurisdiction still has a number of large projects coming so if given the opportunity, reach out and assist any non-union workers with questions they might have. Our office doors are open and if you’re unsure of the answer to a question have them call me and I will speak with them.

RENEW CHAIRMAN Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I want to start by saying thank you to everyone

who helped with rebuilding together. It is amazing

that we can get 3 or 4 people at each house to help

with this great volunteer opportunity. The people we

help are so thankful that we can come help them.

The Timber Rattlers game was a great time, fun

was had by all. We had another good turn out of 28

people and I want thank everyone who helped with

the set up and tear down of the cook out at the

event.

Thank you to all who help cook out at the union

meeting. The burgers and brats were amazing,

despite the rain we got!

We are looking at getting a golf outing

together at one of the courses in or

near Green Bay. Come to the next union

meeting for more info or wait for the text

alert. Date will be finalized at this last RENEW

meeting in June.

Don’t forget to join us at the RENEW

meeting every fourth Wednesday of the

month. 4:30 p.m. at the hall.

We were able to get CEUs approved for several DVD classes through Joe Hertel, the state

inspector. These DVDs can only be viewed once during the four year term of your credential.

For any video class, you must complete 10 review questions for each hour of CEUs.

You must score 70% or better on these tests.

strobe light on the fire alarm system was

installed with 14/2 NM cable.

The apprentice asked if this installation is

legal?

No! This is an illegal installation, per Article 760

Fire Alarm Systems.

PAC ARTICLE

Dear Brothers and Sisters, We held our quarterly PAC meeting on Tuesday, June 18th. We discussed the State Budget, candidates that have received support from us, and Don’s meeting with Green Bay Mayor Genrich. Don commented on the great positive difference in leadership for Green Bay. The loss of Funds for the Blackwell Job Corps Center was discussed. Tammy Baldwin is fighting hard to keep Trump’s proposal of cutting 1100 jobs from the Forestry Service Job Corp programs. According to WSAW TV 7, The Wisconsin Blackwell Job Corp Center, located in Laona serves Wisconsin’s low-income youth from 16-24 years of age. The program is a 2 year training opportunity that provides counseling, guidance, and training. They train in welding, masonry, carpentry and health occupations. After the training, the Corp helps in locating jobs, or transferring to Apprenticeship programs. Please call your representatives to keep this facility and others like it open. We also discussed Fox Conn. According to Reuter’s, the head of Fox Conn, Terry Gou, 68, is seeking to run in Taiwan’s 2020 Presidential Election. He told Reuter’s that he plans to step down from Fox Conn to pave the way for younger talent to move up. Fox Conn stock dropped 24% since he announced the run for presidency. Also, on Fox Conn, according to the Milwaukee Biz Times, a judge has ruled in favor of allowing the diversion of 7 million gallons of water from Lake Michigan, 80% of which would service Fox Conn, the rest to other industries. Don brought to our attention a website sponsored by the Building Trades Council: https://www.anythingbutcontractors.com. The sight was to set up to counter-act the propaganda that ABC puts out there and to educate building trade members and workers. Please check it out for the “real deal” on what’s going on in politics that directly affect your job. There is a “property tax” commercial that is being aired on the radio, touting the Republican’s efforts to suppress property taxes. The Milwaukee Journal reports that Tyco is facing prosecution over the burning of chemicals at its Marinette facility. The report states that Tyco knew as early as 2013 that the chemicals they burned in fire training exercises were poisoning local wells. Walgreens has announced in a letter that they are no longer subsidizing medical payments for retried workers. Employees that did not turn 64 by March 31st, 2019 will be dropped from the benefit. Walgreens

cites “rising health care costs” as the reason for not covering the 550 retirees that it has covered. Governor Evers is seeking applicants interested in being appointed as a replacement for Outagamie County Circuit Judge. Judge Nancy Krueger will be retiring 9/2019. The new appointee will serve until 7/31/2020 when the term would be up. Forward Wisconsin reports that a group of people showed up at Vos’ office with “permission slips”, as the Republicans need his permission to vote to accept the Medicaid Expansion money. Robin Vos replied, “Over my dead body”, even though 70% of Wisconsinites want the Medicaid Expansion. The Wisconsin Election commission is sending out postcards to 114,000 voters who are registered but haven’t voted in the last 4 elections. If the voters do not respond, they will be dropped from the voter registration. This move is one of the Republican means of voter suppression. Ohio has already purged their voter lists. Arizona has two proposed bills, one to limit early voting, that has already passed the Senate and another like Wisconsin, calls for pre -paid flyers, that if not returned will remove approximately 200,000 registered voters from the rolls. Arizona Republicans lost 4 out of 9 races in the last cycle to Democrats. The Kewaunee County Administrator reports that the Kewaunee Nuclear facility has passed the FEMA evaluation for preparedness to handle nuclear plant incidents. Kewaunee participates annually with Point Beach Nuclear Plant in the evaluation. Point Beach received the same high marks.

The Electricians held a breakfast on June 17th at The Café’. Present were: Bob Rukamp, Ron Hasselman, Jack Heyer, Lee Denil, Jeff Hockers, Roger Young, Dale Ferron, Jerry Smith, and myself. WISE ELDERS’ LUNCHEON

Wise Elders 6-13-19 All the open calls at the hall and how rarely that happened during the decades of tenure of the people attending the lunch was a prominent topic of discussion. Some felt they should take calls to help out but have left their licenses lapse. Others, including myself, worked long and hard to get to retirement and after tasting it refuse to consider anything else. (The beer in the fridge doesn't drink itself and senior specials wait for no one!) At the lunch were one guest, Jeff Hockers, Noel Hansen, Dean Knuth, Chris Quatsoe, Dave Carter, Bruce Steffel, and myself. The next two lunch dates will be noon on the 2nd Thursday of the month, at the Ravine, 2633 Manitowoc Rd. Green Bay, Thursday, July 11th and Thursday, August 8th. All are welcome!
