Polyurethane for consolidation

MARITHAN® N

MARITHAN® N is a two component polyurethane product intended for :• Ground consolidation in the event of ground movement.• Consolidation of fractured and unstable ground.• Sealing against water ingress.• Strata sealing.• Injection of rock bolts.

The product’s high adhesive strength and outstanding mechanical properties and good flexibility create an excellent bond with the strata, which is maintained through the life of the workplace. When injected into the strata for preventive or curative purposes, the low viscosity mixture remains liquid for several seconds and penetrates into the smallest fissures, where it expands, sets and effectively consolidate and seals the threaded zone. The product is applied by means of a pump unit and mixing gun.

Advantages

• Low viscosity product, good penetration into small fissures.• Excellent adhesion, ground cohesion quickly re-established under wet or

dry conditions.• High flexibility, coherence maintained even in the event of strata

movement.• Swells in the presence of water, suitable for stemming water ingress.• Full mechanical strength achieved very quickly, hence minimum

disruption to the workplace.

Utilising Marisil E Pumpable Resin

Grouting around Raise Bore Foundations to assist with the ground consolidation of weak weathered ground formations/ inter burden layers. This is a quicker alternative compared to the normal instances where the weak inter burden layers are excavated and where mass concrete is used to build up from a solid bedrock level to a point where the raise bore foundation/shaft collar can be established. Additional benefits of this application are that water ingress due to the water table is sealed. Less drilling is required and works are done quickly and more effectively when compared with conventional cementation.

ROCSIL ® FOAM is a two component phenolic resin product used for cavity filling, air and gas sealing, fire fighting and stabilisation of highly fractured strata. It’s most common use is to fill cavities formed by: • Longwall roof falls • Cavity filling of voids around Set Installations.• Cavity filling of Sample Tunnel Excavations.• Cavity filling of Collapsed tunnel excavations The expansion of the Rocsil between the surrounding strata and the containment backing attached to the set installations allows for the pressurisation of the cavity filling. This pressurisation exerts a resultant force on the surrounding strata and provides an active support function.Load distribution of a foamed product like rocsil typically allows for a better load transfer under the weight of collapsing rock. Advantages

Proven cavity fill product in most Australian longwall minesExtremely fast, safe, cavity filling operation up to 50m 3/hourHigh expansion rate means smaller quantity of product and materials to be delivered to underground location at 70% less than foaming cementMinimal formwork required due to high expansion, fast setting productExcellent compressive strengthExpands in situ providing positive support to the cavityMinimal leaks due to high foaming and fast setting timeWill not block or seize the AFCThe product will not burn or propagate flameCan also be used for injection where there are large voids within the strata. Applications

Stabilisation of fractured and unstable groundSealing against water ingressStrata sealing air / gas leakageWhere spontaneous combustion is a risk Opening up collapsed ends/drives

Foam factor and density are key technical parameters and related to the installed cost per m3 which is a better metric than cost/kg to compare the cost of cavity fill products. Installed cost per m3 = cost/kg x density kg/m3

Foam factor is the change in volume between the liquid components (resin and catalyst) and final solid foam. Density is calculated by weighing sample cubes cut from the foam. WM does QA checks every shift.

DENSITY QA –NSW Mine 17 Shifts Over 4 Months Case Study

Key Parameter Rocsil Foam (1) Other Pruducts (2) Impact

Foam Factor 30.5 (mean)

23 (‐25%) (mean)

Other products require significantly more product to fill cavity

Density 45 (mine data)

57.5 (+28%) (mean)

Other products price/kg needs to be significantly cheaper to achieve the

same installed cost per m3

To fill a typical 350m3 cavity it would take 7 hours and 600 x 20L drums of Rocsil resin and catalyst. In contrast, it would take an extra 2 hours and an additional 172 drums of competitor resin and cata-lyst. IMPACT: Competitor takes longer to fill a cavity, requires more drum handling, increased mine lo-gistics and higher installed cost. (1) – WM website and actual data NSW mine(2) – TDS_Competitor_Aus 4-Sept 2018 (3) – Pump rate 50m3/hr

FOAM FACTOR & DENSITY ROCSIL FOAM

It is fundamental that the cavity fill material stays in place whilst the longwall cuts beneath it (ie does not simply fall out)Key performance parameters are:1. compressive strength – ability to support its own weight and provide confinement to cavity2. shrinkage – minimal shrinkage is desirable to avoid de-bonding3. adhesion – how well does it stick to rock and coal4. shear strength – ability to form a cantilever without shear failure Product quality is critical. Failed installations incur high cost, delays to longwall operations and safety issue.

Actual recent trial at Narrabri Coal Operations verifying density performance.

By using WM’s Rocsil, benefit back to production 25% quicker in the event of an emergency response offering a huge value improvement.

ELECTRONIC FLOWMETERSWM pumps are set up with digital flow meters to ensure correct and consistent mixing ratio during all chemical pumping applications. This consistent approach allows WM to be able to offer quality assurance in the resultant density and uniformity of all cavity fills which are tested and recorded at the end of each shift to provide surety of value for money or ‘best bang for buck’. Correct mixing ratio is also imperative to ensure proper foam expansion is achieved, guaranteeing that the product accesses all far reaching areas of each cavity with no shrinkage.

Electronic flow meters

• accurately record the flow rates and quantity of chemical used for each step of the job

• particularly important with the quantity limitations of PUR injections to stay within the licencing requirements

• allows accurate injection quantities to meet customers specific requirements

• the primary function of the meters is for accurate and immediate real time ratio monitoring and control

• a secondary function is to record the total quantity of chemical pumped on each job, this includes capturing chemical amounts used during priming or flushing. • use of accurate metering equipment delivers significantly greater QA controls

• meters are also used to record quantities of recaptured product during the demobilisation phase

• are fully compliant for use in underground mining hazardous zones

• flow meters and registers are manufactured from robust 316 stainless steel

BULK CHEMICAL HANDLING SYSTEMBulk Chemical Handling System Traditionally the chemicals used for roof fall recovery and the stabilisation of mine strata are supplied in 20 litre drums. These drums are taken underground in bulk handler pods and operators tip these drums into hoppers that feed chemical into the pumps that are used to inject the chemical into mine voids or broken strata. Several hundred drums can be used on each application which is a major logistical and manual handling exercise. The bulk chemical handling system has been developed by WM in conjunction with the chemical supplier Weber Mining. The chemical will now be supplied in 1000 litre intermediate bulk containers (IBCs). Bulk handler pods have been designed to transport up to 3 x IBCs instead of 120 x 20 litre drums. Ancillary equipment has been sourced and tested to mix and transfer the chemical directly into hoppers. Key benefits of the system are:

• No drum handling – reduced labour requirement, less heat stress for operators• Improved ratio control – counters are used instead of drum counts• Improved logistics – 37.5% more chemical in each bulk handler• Closed system – no spills or splashes of chemical, reduced risk of chemical exposure and atmospheric

contaminants• Improved waste management – instead of empty drums that are crushed and disposed of, the IBCs are

recycled

REMOTE ROCSIL® EMERGENCY SEALING SYSTEM

The Wilson Mining (WM) pre-installed remote emergency sealing system provides a significant time reduction in the event of a mine fire or explosion, allowing remote plug seals to be installed in pre-determined best suited locations, along with gas monitoring systems, in fixed positions. Each of the remote heads are fed using purpose built hosing from a single 200mm cased borehole drilled down from the surface. The borehole casing is capped with a customised flanged manifold allowing the Rocsil hosing to be permanently fixed to the manifold and provides a 120 PSI rating. The borehole is located clear of the expected blast radius in the event of a mine fire or explosion.

The surface and mine infrastructure is designed for rapid mobilisation, allowing WM to connect hosing and commence the emergency sealing sequence with rapid response. Comparative to reactive emergency sealing, pre-installed systems are estimated to reduce plug installation times by 70%. If an event occurs, the system of sealing the mine is understood, allowing for best practice and effective execution in a critical stage of a mine emergency.

Micon Seals

The system was developed by Micon Group US and has been successfully tested at the former US Bureau of Mines Lake Lynn facility, at the request of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA). In these tests, the 20 psi Micon ERS was also exposed to an explosive force of 35 psi with the core of the seal sustaining little damage and remained intact. Currently in the US mining industry the Micon ERS holds a significant share of the explosion resistant seal market. The Micon ERS can be designed for a wide range of over pressure ratings including 20, 50 and even 120 psi. The system can also be used for water bulkheads due to their high quality and integrity. Today the Micon ERS is recognised as the world’s best practice for explosion resistant and bulkhead seals. The Micon ERS design consists of two surface-bonded, dry-stacked, concrete block stopping walls spaced depending on the height and rating required. Micon 550 polyurethane (PUR) and gravel fills the void between the stoppings providing a complete seal. To meet fire standard requirements, the seal is coated with a suitable surface coating. This unique seal with its uncomplicated design offers significant advantages over alternative cement based seals.

• The polymer core has expansion and cohesive properties not available in other seal materials.

• Faster curing time to become explosion rated.• Designed around flexural strength not compressive.• Explosion tested at an internationally recognised facility.• The seal is not affected by water once constructed.• Fast installation time.• Quality controlled construction.• No cold joint issues if construction is stopped during construction process.• Atmosphere sampling tubes, drain pipes and water traps may be added as

required.• More cost effective in mines with ground movement, gas and spontaneous

combustion & water accumulation issues.• Demonstrates tolerance to ground convergence without affecting integrity or

rating of seal.

Insitu Performance As deformation occurs the core absorbs / flexes and maintains a seal. The PUR core is glued to each block.Should convergence be predicted to be greater than 10%, timber convergence layers can be included in between layers of blocks in the seal to minimise crushing of the blocks. NOTE: Micon Seals at various mines have accommodated 900mm of convergence without leakage through the core.An appropriate secondary support plan should be integrated with the construction of the Micon ERS

Stratanet is a FRAS polypropylene mesh alternative to steel mesh. A lightweight, corrosion free and multi-directional high strength alternative to steel for roof & wall cladding applications in underground mines. The innovative honeycomb like design helps to distribute the load of any loose debris, and has undergone several iterations to provide the highest flexural and tensile properties in the areas furthest from the supporting rock bolts. The lightweight polypropylene being only 2.3-2.4kg/m2 provides occupational health and safety benefits associated with manual handling and installation. Benefits

• Improved visibility • Reduced weight • Stacks easily and effectively • Corrosion resistant • Module sizes can be tailored to meet mine requirements • Non-conductive -ideal for use around the base of boreholes or shafts • Replacement for standard mesh modules in development roadways • Available up to 1.6m wide, to required length • Excellent adherence with stone dust

Avoid costly repeated reinstallation of corroded steel mesh

Despite the Stratanet product being non-steel, it can nonetheless be considered as a “rigid” structure that can support its own weight without bending excessively when being manually handled. This should allow it to be manoeuvered into position in and around a CM in exactly the same manner as the steel wire mesh modules in current use. The flexural stiffness (i.e. early resistive force development) of both a 5.3 mm steel wire mesh module and the Stratanet product are almost identical. Dustless Plaster Pumping System Step Change in Ventilation Innovation Chemicals and pumps are located on the surface. The Dustless Spray System has been designed to provide a step change to the way ventilation devices are sprayed underground, key drivers behind the innovation were to improve safety of operation while providing increased productivity results. The system is currently completing field trials of the first generation prototype, Second generation is currently being developed in concept phase with findings from field testing to improve performance. The Dustless Spray System can only be utilised with Mastermyne Myne Plaster.

• Pump loaded on the surface where dust control can be managed using bulk bags to load (Potential to introduce tanker storage to transfer product to Dustless Pump System)

• Elimination of all dust from the pump during operation

• Considerable reduction of dust from the nozzle during spraying

• Elimination of any manual handling of 20kg bags or hazards associated with utilising bulk bags over a Piccola pump

• Greater QA of water to plaster ratio

• Improved delivery rate allowing for productivity gains during spraying of VCD’s

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

Reduced Dust Shotcrete Wilson Mining are currently undertaking trails for a reduced dust shotcrete and are preparing to commence underground field testing. When this product is launched to the market Mastermyne will provide further details.

Micon HB Seals The Micon HB (high bond) Seal is a new VCD product development. The design consists of PUR glued masonry blocks and a thinner PUR/gravel core thickness compared to the standard Micon ERS. This reduces materials requirements and cost whilst retaining the important features of convergence and water resistance. The initial Micon HB seals were built using crews formed from both NSW and Qld WM operators and staff to meet the Kestrel mine’s planned longwall start-up schedule. Modifications to the HB seal design can be undertaken to provide a bulkhead rating. Visyload Washers Confirms tensioning equipment works correctly at start of shift.

Pull-test can be completed without bulky equipment.

Owned by the Mastermyne Group of companies, MyneSight is a Registered Training Organisation (#31900) providing training, assessment and consultancy services to the resource sector, specialising in the coal mining industry, both Open Cut and Underground in Queensland and New South Wales. MyneSight delivers a complete range of services necessary to set-up and operationalise a site’s Training Management System, which are inclusive of the areas shown within the diagram below.

MyneSight will facilitate mobilisation of the workforce at Narrabri and develop the site’s on-boarding system to address the underpinning induction skills identified within the site Training Needs Analysis (TNA).

Once the mobilisation is complete MyneSight continue to monitor the training needs analysis to ensure competencies and compliances remain up to date. They arrange training for employees and maintain their INX records to ensure records are up to date and available in real time.

MYNESIGHT CLEANSKIN PROGRAM

MyneSight provide and facilitate a suite of inexperienced mineworker courses, offering the initial training platform to ensure that all personnel are trained within a safe simulated environment. This training has been utilised by mining houses and contracting companies and ensures a clear, consistent pathway into the mining industry. When compared to traditional training methods, we have found that integrating the hands-on training in the underground environment has proven more effective and to have less impact on the day-to-day site operations.

• Both NSW and QLD Training facilities fitted out with over 90 meters of simulated underground roadways

• 4 week initial training platform to ensure that all personnel are trained within a controlled setting + 1 extra week of development specific

• Hand select the best candidates for culture and attitude

• Accelerated inexperienced personnel to enter a productive mode

• Larger percentage of the training conducted off site

• Aligned to the trainee’s needs, learning styles and experience level

• Providing the trainees with a more in-depth level of understanding

• The trainees have a clear understanding of mining hazards, risks and associated controls

• Once through the programme the cleanskins stay with us and go on to be supervisors

• Trade introduction to underground programme

• Only RTO as a preferred supplier of User Choice to deliver Certificate II in Underground Coal Mining in QLD
