BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT
The Healthy Spot
The Healthy Spot, a local cafe, opened in Stockton inJune of 2016. Owners Abel and Jessica Ruiz created thiscafe in Stockton because they felt that Stockton coulduse a quick, easy, and affordable healthy food option.Since then, the Healthy Spot has taken off. The couplehas had so much success they are currently in theprocess of opening another location in Tracy.
"Business has been amazing," shared Jessica. "Whenwe opened it there wasn't much around us. Our buildingwas basically in an empty parking lot. But since we'vebeen open, people in Stockton have been reallysupportive. Once people started tasting our food, theybegan telling others and that word of mouth helped ourbusiness grow."
The Healthy Spot features a lot of protein foods (such asshakes, coffee, and waffles), plus herbal energizing teas, and food that are low in fat and sugar. This is Abel andJessica's first business, but not their first restaurantexperience. Abel started as a dishwasher, and hasworked his way up, working as a sous chef, server, andrestaurant manager throughout his career. Jessica also has years of serving experience.
If you visit their restaurant, Jessica recommends, without hesitation, their waffles. "They're really good,"she says. "We have a dairy-free, lactose-free whip cream, and our own special house recipe for thewaffles, so you won't find them anywhere else."
