Afraid of tackling small projectsaround the house? Sage Eldercareis bringing back its popular "Do itYourself Workshop" for threeWednesdays in March. The pro-gram is free and open to the public.
General contractor Greg Skura-ton will teach participants how tomake small home repairs with con-fidence and demonstrate with thenecessary tools.
He'll show you how to tile,change locks, do trim work, installgrab bars and more. Bring yourquestions and he'll give you helpfultips. The workshop will be from Ip.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, atSage's Furniture Restoration Work-shop, 290 Broad St., Summit.
The program is free, but partici-pants must register in advance bycalling 908-598-5514.

On March 29, at noon, Spring-field Free Public Library will pres-ent a program to offer informationon services beyond what is general-ly known. Members of the Caring, SharingNetwork will discuss vital informa-tion regarding senior services.Learn about home healthcare serv-ices, visiting physicians, hearinghealthcare, palliative and hospicecare, and lifestyle transitions.There will be a 25 minute presenta-tion followed by a question andanswer session. Tax tips for seniorsOn Thursdays through April 14,
Sage Eldercare, 290 Broad St.,Summit, will offer free income taxassistance to all taxpayers withmiddle or low income. The pro-gram is offered to all area residents,and special attention will be givento those age 60 and older.
During the eight-week program,Sage will host trained volunteer taxpreparers who are trained by theIRS through the AARP Tax Aideprogram.
Registration for this service isrequired. Taxpayers should bring acopy of their 2009 Federal andState income tax returns; their 2010income tax packets; their Novem-ber 2010 real estate tax bill; Feder-al information forms for 2010 such
as W-2 forms; SSA 1099 form;!099s for interest; dividends andother income, 1099 for pension,annuity and IRA distribution; 1099B forms for assets sold during theyear; receipts or cancelled checks ifitemizing deductions and socialsecurity numbers for dependents.This is a confidential service andpreparation is by appointment only.To avoid end of tax season rush,late February, early March appoint-ments are encouraged. Sage seeks volunteersto help SHIP program
Looking for a way to volunteerthat's out of the ordinary? SageEldercare is seeking volunteers tohelp with its State Health InsuranceAssistance Program, or SHIP pro-gram, which provides free help to
Union County Medicare beneficiar-ies who have problems with, orquestions about, their health insur-ance. Sage will host a five-daytraining seminar in March for thoseinterested in becoming SHIP volun-teers. The training will be from 9a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday andMarch 29 at Sage, 290 BroadStreet, Summit.
"We are actively seeking volun-teers to help us with this importantservice we provide to area seniors,"said Elyse Drucker, SHIP coordina-tor for Sage. "Medicare beneficiar-ies often have questions about ben-efits and claims, supplement poli-cies and long-term care insurance.Our volunteer counselors aretrained to provide information andassistance for dealing with claimsand evaluating health insuranceneeds."
