With regard to fruit, male catkins produced through winter. Female flowers forming red protruding tassels occur in mid February after pollen of same tree is shed. Nuts are often clustered and protected by overlapping bracts.
Hazel is easily recognised by its small size, usually less than 8 metres, its position in a woodland or hedgerow. It is an understorey component, often growing from the base to form long branches.

Course Construction H A Z E L The bark is shiny grey and generally smooth, becoming scaly with supporting curled strips and horizontal breathing pores. Hazel produces large broadest at the base, giving way to a projected point at the tip. Each leaf is coarsely toothed with unequal teeth. Leaves are generally dark green in colour supporting soft, white hairs on the underside veins.

The Belfry have hosted many prestigious tournaments such as The Ryder Cup Matches, the
Benson and Hedges International Open and is home to The Quinn British Masters in 2006.
We are currently looking for highly motivated individuals to strengthen our existing
greenkeeping team in a variety of roles.
Head Greenkeeper - Brabazon Golf Course
The ideal candidate will have NVQ3/4, H N D Golf Course Management, PA I, PA2, PA6 Spraying Certificates, along with a minimum of 5 years
experience at Head Greenkeeping level.
Assistant Greenkeepers The successful candidate will have NVQ2 and a minimum of 3 years greenkeeping experience.
Summer/Student Greenkeeper and Gardener Experience is preferred but not essential
Assistant Grounds Manager The ideal candidate will have NVQ3 or H N D in
Horticulture and spraying certificate.
