BWYA Senior Model United Nations (Student-led Club)

What is MUN? The Model United Nations is a concept activity during which students pretend to be delegates of specific countries in special forums of the United Nations. It is role play but they have to do the grunt work too. For example, they have to learn how to draft a real Resolution (which is a document which states actions that member countries wish to take about certain issues). They must also learn to be persuasive (through the lobbying process, which means that they must convince other delegates to support their resolution). Finally, they must learn to make persuasive formal speeches in front of an assembly of peers (to garner positive votes for their resolution). With experience, some students become Student Officers and lead the conferences.

What we do? Our club members meet each week and under the mentoring guidance of two senior students, they work at developing those skills in order to be the best delegate they can be in conferences that they choose to attend. This year, the two Senior Club presidents are Cilinia KIM and Daniel KIM, who are both students of DP1.

What conferences? Our Senior club attend three conferences during the two Club seasons. The first one takes place in November and is held in Singapore. It is called THIMUN (The Hague International Model United Nations). It is the biggest, longest and most challenging conference for our delegates and also the best to help shape students into mature, confident speakers. They always come back ‘more’. The second conference is actually a Junior conference which takes place in December at the British School of Beijing (BRITMUN). Our Grade 10 students attend as Student officers (Presidents and Assistant Presidents) and the Grade 9 students attend as delegates. The last one that we attend takes place in February/March and is held at the International School of Beijing. The Beijing Model United Nations is also a challenging conference and our students are usually already experienced when in attendance, so it often a chance to showcase the mature, experienced delegate or student officer that they have become. Due to the current world situation, this year, our delegates will attend conferences virtually, hence still having the opportunity to learn and interact with delegates of schools around China and the world. 模拟联合国 ( 学生开设的俱乐部)

什么是模拟联合国？

模拟联合国是一种概念活动。学生在模拟环境中扮演联合国特别论坛上特定的国家代

表。即是角色扮演但学生需要准备很多工作。例如，学习如何起草一份真正的决议(指

成员国希望就某些问题采取的行动)，还须具备说服他人的能力 (通过游说来争取其他

代表支持其决议)。最后，还要在一众议员面前发表正式演讲(为决议积极争取选票)。

随着经验的积累，一些学生成为学生官，并领导会议。

俱乐部活动是什么？

俱乐部成员每周上一次课，两位高年级的学生帮助俱乐部成员提高相关技能，以便在

所选择参加的会议中能成为最好的代表。

参加哪些会议？

俱乐部每年两个赛季共参加 3 个会议。第一个会议是每年 11 月在新加坡举行的

THIMUN。对俱乐部成员来说，这是规模最大、时间最长、最具挑战性的一次模拟联

合国会议，也是能够帮助学生成为自信的演讲者的最佳时机。第二个会议是每年 12 月

在北京英国学校举办的 BRIMUN, 这是一个初级模联会议。10 年级的学生将作为会议

学生官(主席，主席助理)，而 9 年级的学生则作为代表出席此次会议。最后一次会议是

2 月或 3 月将于北京顺义国际学校举行。北京模拟联合国是一个具有挑战性的会议，

通常我们参会的学生代表已经具备了丰富的经验，因此它也是彰显学生走向成熟的机

会。基于当前的国际形势，今年我们将参加线上会议，因此我们仍有机会与中国以及

世界各地的学校代表共同学习和互动交流。

This club will show you the formation of the world economy and finance patterns. We will gain this knowledge through some classic documentaries or films. This club is aimed at the students who are very interested in the world economy and finance. You Be the Chemist Challenge Club

You Be the Chemist Challenge (YBTC) is aimed at students, in Grades 7 and 8, who have yet to formally begin their chemistry studies. Therefore, the purpose of YBTC is to inspire students' interest and confidence in learning chemistry and scientific exploration, and to inspire them to become future scientists. Study materials and supporting information for participants are available. Participants are encouraged to review these study materials, including the periodic table, to prepare for each level of the Challenge competition. 7th to 8th grade students are eligible to compete in teams of four, starting from qualifiers, regionals, nationals and then the global round competitions. Students will be tested through a multiple-choice written test, on-site knowledge contest, chemistry research experiment and other aspects, in order to experience a variety of scientific learning forms. YBTC focuses on the 21st century core competence requirements as follows: teamwork and leadership, autonomous learning abilities, problem solving abilities, critical thinking and innovative abilities and last but not least presentation abilities. Care for the Elderly (Student-led Club)

This club aims to gather a group of empathetic, influential individuals who want to become a part of a project that has the potential to change the lives of the elderly at the Beijing Everbright Guta Senior Apartment (北京光大汇晨古塔老年公寓). While volunteering at

senior apartments is common, this project is a leap from the conventional theory and method of service, aiming to create a much more profound impact in the elderly community through innovation and a deeper understanding of the mental experiences, fears, and dilemmas of urban elders in the 21st century. The club offers a great SA / Pre-CAS / CAS opportunity. As leaders, we truly hope to see your transformation in this club, becoming responsible, thoughtful individuals with a kind heart, qualities that bring you lifelong benefits no matter where you go.

普遍的活动，而本项目是区别于传统服务理论和方法的一次飞跃，旨在通过对 21 世纪

中国老人的心理状态以获取对其更深刻的理解，用我们的同情心和细致观察对与老人

的互动方式进行创新，从而对城市中的老年人群体产生更深远和可持续性的影响。本

In this club students are able to learn how to write a detective script and also play the best scripts written. There would also be some simple games that we will play some about detecting. Creva Dance Club (Student-led Club)

The Creva Dance Club is a jazz dance club founded by three girls from G8 and G9. Students from different grades who love dance can get together to learn various choreographies. We will learn popular dances such as popular Korean groups, which can practice our bodies rhythm to the music. The weekly class is one hour, during which basic skills are practiced, dance segments are learned, practiced and stretching is done at the end and start of the class. Spacious classrooms are also a must for the club, and the new campus is well-equipped to accommodate all students below G10. Creva dance club 是由 G8 和 G9 的三位女生创建的爵士舞社团。不同年级热爱舞蹈

体的舞蹈，这不仅锻炼了身体的律动还达到了文化传播的效果。每周的课程为一个小

We aim to let our club members develop their artistic appreciation ability through the analysis of a variety of famous artworks. CASC Youth Leadership Club

The goal of the CASC Youth Leadership Programme is to discover students' self-awareness

and influence. Life is about discovering yourself, and leadership is about discovering a better

self. When a person has great competence and profound wisdom, one can use his/her ability

to affect and help the people around him/her. This is our definition of leadership and “a better

self”.

So, the theme of this season's leadership curriculum is “A Better Self”. We would like to invite

you to explore more about leadership, an “ideal leader”, and “a better self”. The first step to

become better is to give you guidance and a hint that you are ready to change. After doing it,

you will find out that health, relationships, family, learning, work, interests, and community

will change as well. The curriculum will support you to define your goals and build your skills.

You will gain practical leadership skills such as goal setting, time management, active listening,

public speaking and communication. You will gradually make breakthroughs by practicing and
