Most of Brunelleschi’s early years were a mystery

It is known he was the second of three of three sons and his father was a distinguished notary in Florence.

He initially trained as a goldsmith and sculptor and enrolled in the Arte della Seta, the silk merchants guild.

Around the turn of the century, he was designated a master goldsmith

He then got married to his wife Giuliana Spini in 1401.

Education and Early Years

Early in his architectural career (A.D 1410-1415), Brunelleschi rediscovered the principles of linear perspective, known to ancient Greeks and Romans, but lost during the Middle Ages.

His most famous work of architecture was the dome of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (the Duomo) in Florence. (1296 and 1436)
