About Me My full name is Chelsea Jolene Watkins, and I am a senior at
Rainshadow.. Some interesting facts about myself:
1. I can draw really well
2. I sing opera
3. I belly dance
4. I want to be in the medical career
5. I love beat-boxing
6. I know how to ride horses
My Topic
The topic I chose for my senior project is Horse Riding. I chose this because it is something that I can do pretty well and it’s so much fun. When you’re on a horse, you feel really peaceful.
What it’s all about
Horse Riding is not only a hobby, but it is considered a sport. You need endurance, strength, and patience. When riding horses, you work every muscle in your body, especially your legs and abdomen. By the time you are actually done with one lesson, your legs will become gummy worms.
What is needed?
There are specific things needed for riding horses, such as:
-Pads which go on before the saddle
-Saddles with harness and stirrups
-Reins
-And sometimes a crop to get them going
Don't forget grooming supplies, such as brushes, sponges, and trimmers.
Types of Riding
-The most popular riding style is Western. Western is pretty much for fun, and you don't compete. With a western saddle, you have a horn in the front that usually helps beginners hold on better. With western riding, there is no specific attire required .
-English is also a popular style of riding. It is usually the style ridden in competition and is very strict. English saddles do not have the horn, because it needs to be more challenging for the rider. There is an attire to wear with English riding, which consists of knee high boots, legging pants, and helmets.
What It Has Done For Me
Riding horses taught me to not give up when you get tossed around and that it really is possible to do things that seem completely outrageous. It also taught me to just have fun with life, so that's what I
did.
Plans After High school
My plans after high school really have nothing to do with riding horses, but I plan to go to college and get into a nursing program.
I think that learning to ride has kind of pushed myself to want to do better in life. The reason I say this is because if I can learn how to control a huge beast, then I control the obstacles life throws at me.
Reflection Paper
In my High school reflection paper, I described how my senior year has been. It's had its ups and its downs, but I'm so ready to graduate. I'm very grateful to have all my great friends and teachers who have made my year fun. I'm a little sad that this is pretty much it, and I don't want to lose anyone that I've come to know and love over time. I know I'll never forget the time I've spent here.
