Continuous Improvement Work Plan (CIWP) 2014 -16 Science: In partnership with the Next Generation Science collaborative from Loyola University, Mary Lyon

School will follow with fidelity the Next Generation Science Standards as adopted by the Chicago Board of Education. This plan will include FOSS - Full Option Science System, STC - Science and Technology for Children in grades K - 5 and SEPUP - Science Education for Public Understanding Program for grades 6 - 8.

English Learners: Mary Lyon will implement an academic language development curriculum for linguistically diverse students through CCSS, WIDA standards, data driven instruction based on multiple types of assessment, research based practices, and professional development for all staff.

Climate, Culture, and Social and Emotional Learning: CASEL - the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL (CPSEL)) will be implemented this school year. Our school counselor will work in partnership with our administration to provide PD opportunities for the PATHS (K - 2) Program and the School Toolkit. This includes supporting staff with their implementation of “School Kits” grades 3 through 8 and “PATHS” program grades K through 2.

Arts: Mary Lyon School will provide an environment for student growth in the arts. Lyon works in collaboration with two external art partners - the Chicago Metamorphosis Orchestra Project and the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance. In addition Mary Lyon School has two full time music teachers and one art teacher. Our school has an orchestra program, band program, choir, dance, Cuatro and guitar, school garden, as well as other performing arts events.

Open Leadership I believe Lyon must begin to build a culture in regard

to the concept of Open Leadership established by Charlene Li of Harvard University.

Open Leadership is having the confidence and the humility to give up the need to be in control, while inspiring commitment from people to accomplish goals.
