A good play needs no epilogue wrote the Bard, but I must start with one, so sorry, William. As I pen this piece it’s not even near the end of the winter season, but I must say a big thank you! So proud, so entertained and so grateful. Here I must reserve a special note for this year’s Panto. A first in many ways! A first ever staging of Peter Pan as a Panto at the Court. The bold and collectively brave move to have Peter and the little “Darlings” flying. Not however the first time I have been the fall guy for some of the humour. I loved the whole thing, my grandkids loved it and so did some Albanian’s kids I took to their first Panto, they adored it!

So, thank you for turning out in your thousands, 2700 ish to give you all some idea. Thank you for the little army of players, of backstage and front of house courtiers, the lighters and sounders etc etc. When I led the standing ovation on the last night, I really meant it! Wonderful, wonderful and wondrous! I hope I thanked most of them personally. For those I missed, my apologies they were all hugging one another!

The whole season has been a joy. An observation from the Bible that music is the language of love was reinforced in Shakespeare observation that it is the food of love. Well dear readers if you didn’t get a feast this winter season, then stop calling weight watchers. I am a man of catholic taste in food and music. If you cannot find a dish you liked, then I am flabbergasted. It was less of a buffet and more a banquet, at prices that give all a chance to have fun, see great work and I think appreciate what great little community we all live in.

I still lead an incredibly busy life if you want to sample the range go to www.evansmbe.com and see. The personal joy of being a newbie even after 42 years here does nothing to stop me informing people in far off places that I reside in a unique spot. Perhaps I should keep quiet, it’s our special secret? Perhaps we can bottle it from the Tring Spring of fun? Whatever we have here it is very special but needs regular topping up.

So where to from here folks?

In my youth I was President of a Student Union and one of the joys of the job was picking the bands for the gigs. It was more than 52 years ago, and you might not believe what you could get for your budget. Amongst my stellar acts was the great Chuck Berry who observed “I play from desire” so this it is with the Court Theatre, desire! It’s infectious and so thanks all and sundry for the support on this unique experience, life in the Court.

At the end of act one, guests work as a team at their table to submit their first guess as to who the murderer is. After act two, they get their final chance to say ‘whodunnit’ and why. No questions are directed at any cast members and they do not mix with the audience. All tickets must be booked in advance.

The two short plays in this double bill could hardly be more different. D.F.C. deals with the repercussions of actions that happened to three people in World War II and their impact about 50 years later. This play was premiered by Frayed Knot back in 1993 and was tremendously well received – it is one that will stay long in your memory. Having made you thoughtful in the first half, after the interval we present a completely different kind of play with the surreal comedy Never the Twain - eight short interconnected dialogues with subjects as diverse as lost souls and lost soles – guaranteed to send you home smiling.

£10.00 - £12.00. Concessions available. Starts: 8.00pm.

Along the way she’ll have the chance to recover her parents’ happiness and learn what it means to grow up. Ella Hickson’s radical retelling of JM Barrie’s much-loved story puts Wendy centre stage in an adaptation that is refreshingly modern, whilst never losing the charm of the original.
