Lived 1865-1939 Born In Dublin,
Ireland Father was well
known Portrait Artist and lawyer.
Was Poet and playwright.
Lived in London until 15.
Attended art school for a while.
Earlier years he wrote more dramatic works than poems.
Founded the Irish Theatre (later called Abbey Theatre).
Fascinated with mysticism, spiritualism, the occult.
Later years served as Irish Senator for 2 terms(1922 &1925)
Married at age 51 to Georgie Hyde-lees (age 25)
Had two children (Anne and Michael)Won Nobel Prize in Literature in Dec.
1923.Died in France in 1939. Wife moved his remains back to
County Sligo in Ireland a year later.
Considered one of the greatest poets of the 20th Century.
Yeats was a master of the traditional Form. Used free verse more in his later years.
His inspiration in early years came from his fascination in mysticism, and his Irish Loyalty.
His inspiration in later years came from his kids, and from growing old.
First published in his second collection The Rose

Yeats said, “My first lyric with anything in its rhythm of my own music.”
Has somewhat of a tranquil rhythm.
