The business is locally owned and operated by Village residents Stormy Armagost and Susan Parsel-Armagost, who have lived in Briar Meadow North since 2005. By trade, Stormy had been a mechanical design engineer, and Susan’s background was in mortgage banking. After retiring in 2005 and 2006, respectively, this husband and wife team purchased RK Products, Inc. in July of 2010 because “we were bored with being retired, so we started to look for business opportunities,” said Susan.

“Our business philosophy is twofold,” pointed out Stormy. “We are committed to providing a quality product, along with the best customer service.”

Susan agreed, saying, “We are proud of our business and products. We know we give our customers what they want and need to reclaim living space. And because we have lived in The Villages for 11 years, we’re happy to serve our neighbors. Quite simply, our products enable our neighbors to enjoy more of their living space, and it makes us smile every time a customer tells us how happy they are with our products. That’s our number one goal - to make sure all our customers are happy.”

She noted that Stormy has always enjoyed the challenge of solving problems and finding solutions for people. All of the products they sell are custom made to order, with some personally manufactured by Stormy. They offer materials featuring simple designs or designer patterns that block 80 to 98 percent of the sun’s rays from an enclosed lanai or a screened birdcage or lanai.

Their motto is “Block the sun, not your view.”To date, Stormy and Susan have helped nearly 1,000

Village neighbors reclaim their outdoor spaces such as patios, garages and lanais with shades that block 95 percent of the sun’s rays. Susan said that using shades helps protect patio furniture from light rain and fading, and they provide the added benefit of energy savings. And, privacy shades can be manually operated or fully motorized so they can be operated by the push of a button on a remote or smartphone.

A complete installation typically takes a day or two, not several weeks, Stormy said.

The couple has been married for 33 years. They are active members of their church, Unity of The Villages, and recently, became involved with The Villages’ Segway Riders Club. The couple also enjoys travelling when they can, but their business keeps them pretty busy. Even their dog, a Shih Tzu named Barkley is a “time-share” pet, Susan said, explaining that she and Stormy share their pet with her father, who also is a Villager.

“I used to play golf, but now I work full-time for the business,” said Stormy.

But he doesn’t mind. “I enjoy doing the installations and I find a lot of satisfaction in making our customers happy,” he said, estimating that 98% of their installations are in The Villages. Typically, he finds that many are thrilled to be served by fellow-residents of the community.

“It eases their minds to know I’m just like they are, having moved here from somewhere else,” he said. “I know what it’s like to have to adapt to a new place, and it makes it easy because you know you can trust your neighbor.”
