Birth of Isaac NewtonIsaac Newton was born on January 4, 1643.

however, At the time of Isaac's birth, England hadn’t adopted the Gregorian Calendar and so, his date of birth was recorded as Christmas Day, December 25 1642.

ChildhoodWhen Isaac Newton was very young, his mother left him

with his grandmother to marry a very wealthy old man. 8 years after the two got married, the wealthy old guy died and Isaac's mother came back to him. With her, she brought back 3 kids that she gave birth to.

Isaac Newton's father died 3 months before Isaac was even born, so he didn’t know very much about his father. So to sum it all up, Isaac Newton was mistreated when he was a child.

Overcoming obstaclesWhen Isaac Newton was a

child, he didn’t know what he wanted to be when he grew up. All of his family expected him to be a farmer just like them and his grades were mediocre. From the age of about twelve until he was seventeen, Isaac was educated at The King’s School Grantham. Isaac was born a very small child, so no one ever thought he would get a degree at Trinity College and become one of the greatest mathematicians of all time.

School lifeUpon the death of his stepfather in 1653, Isaac lived in an

extended family consisting of his mother, his grandmother, a half-brother, and two half-sisters. Isaac began attending the Free Grammar School in Grantham. This was only five miles from his home. Isaac wasn’t getting very good school reports, so his mother told him to come back home to be a farmer which Isaac failed terribly at. Isaac’s uncle decided that Isaac should prepare for entering a university and persuaded his mother that this was the right thing to do so Isaac was allowed to return to School in Grantham in 1660 to complete his school education. Isaac finally took school seriously and was able to get a degree at Trinity College.

AccomplishmentsSome of the greatest

accomplishments of Isaac Newton’s life were:

The Newton’s Laws of Motion which became the founding principle of mechanics.

He invented the generalized binomial theorem and then created the infinitesimal calculus.

And his greatest achievement was being knighted by the queen of England in 1705 for inventing the reflecting telescope.

InventionsProbably some of the most

important inventions created by Isaac Newton are:

The reflecting telescope which created a new age in “close-up observation.”

The light prism which reflects light into a rainbow.

And the complicated math formula known as calculus.

Death of Isaac Newton Isaac Newton passed away in

London England on March 20, 1727. He was buried in Westminster Abbey.

Some say that he suffered from a severe nervous disorder that was caused by overwork, stress of controversy, or mercury poisoning.

No matter what the cause, we will miss Isaac Newton who was a great tribute to the scientific and mathematical world.

Interesting facts Isaac Newton was knighted by the queen when he was

about 62 year of age.One of Newton’s biggest rivals during his lifetime was

Robert Hooke who discovered cork in a cell. One of the most interesting things about Isaac Newton is

that he was born in the year that Galileo died. Isaac was 4 days old when Galileo died.

Birth of GalileoGalileo was born on February 15, 1564 in Pisa, Italy.Galileo was the first of six children of Vincenzo

Galiliei, the famous lutenist and music theorist and Galileo’s mother was Giulia Ammannati. Four of their six children survived birth, and the youngest child Michelangelo, became a lutenist and composer.

Galileo's full name was Galileo di Vincenzo Bonaiuti de' Galilei.

ChildhoodAt the age of 8, Galileo’s family moved to

Florence, but he was left behind for two years. He then was educated in the Camaldolese Monastery at Vallombrosa. Even though he really wanted to be a priest as a young man, he enrolled for a medical degree at the University of Pisa at his father's urging. He did not complete this degree, but instead studied mathematics.

School lifeWhen Galileo reached the age of ten, Galileo left Pisa to

join his family in Florence. He was tutored by Jacopo Borghini. Once he was old enough to be educated in a school, his parents sent him to the Camaldolese Monastery at Vallombrosa. Galileo enjoyed his life as a hermit at the monastery. Galileo’s father didn’t want him to join the monastery because he wanted Galileo to be a medical doctor. Against his father’s wishes, Galileo studied mathematics. Galileo’s teacher persuaded Vincenzo to allow Galileo to study mathematics. Galileo was a to get a degree in mathematics and became a teacher of mathematics in Florence Italy in 1585.

Scientific MethodsGalileo made contributions

to the science of motion with a combination of experiment and mathematics.

In order to perform experiments, Galileo had to set up standards of length and time, so that measurements made on different days could be compared in labs.

Also he himself was classified as the father of Modern Science.

The SpyglassGalileo, in 1609, made a

telescope with about 3x magnification. He later came up with a telescope with a 30x magnification.

He could see magnified, upright images on the earth with what he called a spyglass.

He made quite a profit with his telescopes by selling them to merchants who would use them at sea or traded them.

Using his spyglass, he discovered 3 moons orbiting Jupiter.

Important discoveryGalileo discovered that when

you drop two objects off the same height at the exact same time, then they will hit the ground at exactly the same time no matter what the size or weight of the objects being dropped. However if one object has wind resistance, then the rule will be broken. He experimented this on the leaning tower of Pisa.

Astronomy

Galileo discovered that the objects orbiting Saturn were rings.

Galileo also discovered the sunspots on the sun.

Also, Galileo didn’t believe that Neptune was a planet, he thought it was a very dim star.

Death Of GalileoGalileo died on January 8,

1643 in Tuscany Italy using the American calendar.

He died of fever and heart palpitations.

He will be remembered as a the father of modern science and as a great physicist, mathematician, and astronomer.

He will be greatly missed.

under house arrest by the pope.In his last few years, Galileo went completely

blind.
