Dr. Ramon Barba
discovered that spraying mango trees with potassium nitrate
induced flowering all year round. This technology made the
Philippines a leading exporter of mangoes and mango products such
as candy, puree and juice.
CHARACTERa Filipino surgeon, created the harmonic scalpel, an
ultrasonic surgical knife that doesn't burn flesh. He has more than
a dozen medical and toy patents in the US and in the
Philippines...

CHARACTERFrancis Duhaylongsod
a Filipino heart surgeon in Hawaii, invented an operation called
minimally-invasive cardiac surgery. This uses smaller cuts into the
body, reducing the nine-week recovery period to two.
CHARACTERWho invented the fluorescent lamp? Thomas Edison
discovered the electric light and Nikola Tesla invented the
fluorescent lighting. But the fluorescent lamp we use today was
invented by Agapito Flores, a Filipino electrician. Americans
helped Filipino politicians to develop it for worldwide commerce.
General Electric has denied this.
CHARACTERSimilarly, the anti-cancer drug Taxol was invented by
Filipinos using Philippine yew (Taxus matrana) but patented by
Americans.
CHARACTERFrancisco Quisumbing
a Filipino chemist, invented Quink pen ink which he sold to
Parker for international consumption. The ink cleans the pen as it
writes, dries quickly on paper, and remains liquid inside the
tube.
CHARACTERRoberto del Rosario
invented the piano tuner's guide, the piano keyboard stressing
device, the voice color tape, and the one-man- band (OMB). The OMB
was later developed as the Sing-Along-System (SAS) to aid his voice
students. His first model came out in the 1970s, and was copied by
the Japanese who named their device the karaoke. The July 24, 1999
Philippine Daily Inquirer reported that Del Rosario filed a suit
and was consequently awarded sole authority over karaoke's
Philippine production.

Camilo M. Tabalba
a Filipino engineer, headed a team to make the telephone
electronic in 1970. By 1975, he published his findings, including
the development of the dynamic transducer (a transmission circuit
replacing the carbon transmitter). His work helped in the
development of the modern Touchtone phone.

Who created the Lunar Rover or moon buggy used in 1969 by
American astronauts who first landed on the moon? A Filipino
employee of Lockheed Corporation christened Eduardo San Juan.
CHARACTER
The inventor of the one-chip video camera was Marc Loinaz, a
Filipino resident of New Jersey who works with Lucent Technologies.
He was featured in the July 1999 issue of Discover Magazine.
CHARACTERDiosdado Banatao
an engineer from Cagayan, Philippines, pioneered graphics
acceleration, introducing the world's 1st graphical user interface
(GUI) accelerator. He also contributed designs like the ethernet, a
networking protocol plugged into PCs...

Lea Salonga
a Filipina soprano singer and actress well known for originating
the lead role of Kim in the musical Miss Saigon,[2] for which she
won the Olivier, Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics and Theatre World
awards.[2][3]She was the first Asian to play the roles of ponine
and Fantine in the musical Les Misrables on Broadway.[4] She also
provided the singing voice of two official Disney Princesses:
Jasmine in Aladdin (1992), and Fa Mulan in Mulan (1998) and Mulan
II (2004).[5] Salonga was named a Disney Legend in 2011 for her
work with the company.[6]

DISCIPLINEDelayed Gratification is the commitment to schedule
the pain of life first so we can really experience the pleasures of
life that follow.
In every area of life, discipline begins with delayed
gratification.

II. CONFIDENCE
Acknowledge the presence of God Given Potential
CONFIDENCEDO SOMETHING !
The first step in developing confidence is proving to yourself
that you have God-given abilities that are begging to be developed.
In order to do this, youre going to have to leave safety and
security of the comfort zone you live in so that you can learn
something new.
This might mean attending/enroling for a class that stretches
you intellectually to prove to yourself that your mind functions
well. Maybe you need to take lessons in an area that will stretch
your artistic or athletic skills. Or maybe you should become a part
of a group activity or a new challenge in school or a ministry in
your church.
CONFIDENCEYou see, people who never leave their comfort zones
dont grow in their confidence! You develop confidence by gritting
your teeth and saying, If I am fearfully made, and if I have all of
this divine potential within me, Im going to try something new and
see what happens.
What is one God-given ability, talent, or spiritual gift that
you need to develop and start using?
What can you do to start developing greater levels of competency
in this area of your life?
Push Back
When life pushes you down, push back! That's what you're here
for. You're capable, you're creative, you're full of life and
energy. You have what it takes to move yourself forward around any
obstacle. Don't let anything stop you.
Take strength from meeting the challenges, and move ahead. The
struggles you face are just what you need to fulfill your potential
for greatness. Think back over the past year. Consider the ways in
which you've grown, the things you've learned, your
accomplishments. Most of these probably came from overcoming some
challenge or adversity which initially stood in your way.
A year from now, when you look back at today, you'll see that
the problem you're so concerned with right now, was another
valuable lesson waiting to be learned.

III. PATIENCE
When Patience Runs Out, WATCH OUT !
PATIENCEWhen patience runs out, we tend to launch a verbal
attack that usually wounds or hurt the other person.Whenever we
lose our patience, we lose control. We lose our perspective. When
patience wears thin, we say things and do things that we later
regret.When patience runs out, watch out! Someone is sure to get
hurt.

would you do to develop it?
PATIENCEMy brothers, count it all joy when you fall into various
trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.
But let patience have its perfect work that you may be perfect and
complete, lacking nothing.

IV. ENDURANCE
DEVELOPING ENDURANCE
ENDURANCECrashing through quitting pointsWe must commit
ourselves to developing endurance in every area of our lives.
This involves establishing a pattern of always pushing ourselves
a little beyond where we feel comfortable
We need to draw on Gods strength and crash through them. This is
the key to learning endurance.
ENDURANCETake a look at this credentials:
Terminated from employment in 1832
Lost bid for Legislature in that same year
Failed in Business in 1833
Sweetheart died in 1835
Suffered nervous breakdown in 1836
Lost bid for Senate in 1854
Lost nomination for Vice President in 1856

ASK YOURSELF . . .
Identify one specific area in your life in which you have a
pattern of quitting. (What specific situations do you always find
yourself giving in or surrendering?)
What are the barriers that stand in the way of breaking through?
( What are the things that makes you give up?)
What does it take to persevere to the point of breaking through
this quitting point? ( What will it take for you to persevere and
not give up?)
ENDURANCEBlessed are those who draw on Gods strength and endure
through trials and crash through quitting points.
Developing endurance is a choice that should become a lifestyle
for all of us.
V. CONTENTMENT
The MYTH of MORE
CONTENTMENTMany of us still believe in the myth of more. We
really think that a little more money, a little more status, a
little more excitement, a little more travel, a little more
pleasure, a little more power, a little more whatever, will finally
produce satisfaction in our soul. But stop and reflect for a
moment. Have any of your acquisitions, experiences, or
accomplishments brought you significant levels of inner
satisfaction? Or are you still one possession, one award, one
position away from being able to say, Enough. The myth of more
consigns us to a lifetime of discontentment and
dissatisfaction.

open my mind and fill it with rich tidbits of knowledge.
Today stretches ahead of me, waiting to be shaped. And here I
am, the sculptor who gets to do the shaping.
And what today will be like is up to me.
