By: Tosha FegleyCFL Light BulbHistoryThe modern fluorescent bulb was invented in the 1890s by Peter Hewitt. It was used for photographic studios & industries. The bulb was developed by the General Electric Company in 1970
Early Modern Fluorescent Bulb.HistoryIn 1927, the high pressure vapor lamp was invented.
High pressure vapor lamp.HistoryIn 1976, Edward E. Hammer, invented the CFL spiral tube. In 1995, spiral lamps were manufactured in China
CFL spiral tube bulb.Other InformationThe CFL has a poisonous vapor called mercury, that can be released in high concentration if the bulb is broken.CFL stands for Compact Fluorescent Light or Energy Saving Light.
Purpose The CFL bulb has a longer life span that lasts up to 15,000 hours, than the incandescent that has 1,000 hours. It also uses less energy. And it is eco-friendly.
Creates light by a current reaction, with argon gas and mercury vapor.
Pins pass a current to an electrode, which electrons strike atoms of vapor. This produces UV radiation that bounces off phosphor coating.
The fluorescent powder on the inside of the tube energizes electrons in phosphor atoms. Then atoms radiate white light. The end
