29 As we begin 2010, the EMDRIA Foundation has provided many opportunities for SUCCESS. When thinking about success, it typically means there is a challenge to meet and overcome. Some might think that our first capital campaign goal of $100,000 by 9/1/2010 is an impossible one. We don’t think so! Since August 2009, we raised more than a fifth of the goal, which is a great start toward our SUCCESS. We are grateful to those who gave the extra $10 with your 2010 EMDRIA membership renewal. We also have much gratitude for some very generous donations, which we hope to replicate many times over. As many of you requested, I am pleased to announce that it is now possible to make monthly automatic payments through www.justgive.org. Although the EMDR community is a wonderful resource, we know we need to tap larger funding sources to achieve our SUCCESS. Did you know that larger funding sources often consider the percentage of membership support when determining their level of funding? It is vital that we have 100% support of the EMDRIA members to achieve the funding SUCCESS we need. The gift of giving to the EMDRIA Foundation comes in many different forms. You might consider giving a memorial gift, to remember or pay special tribute to one’s life. Or give a gift of tomorrow by honoring someone today. Make a donation in honor of a loved one to help celebrate any number of occasions. Or you might recognize someone for their steadfast work and tireless effort shown in your organization or better yet, in our EMDR community. These are only a few of the many suggestions you might consider to be part of our SUCCESS. Spreading the word about our mission to others, such as other mental health professionals, clients, family and friends will also forward our cause. Some of you may be wondering what these monies will be used for. What is this SUCCESS all about? In addition to the capital campaign decision, the Board decided to further our mission of supporting quality research and focus on the three areas of study: Veterans, Children and Adolescents, and Depression. To start, we will give three Dissertation Awards of $5,000 each. These SUCCESS (aka Dissertation) Awards will be given to a doctoral student planning a research project in one of the three areas. The Requests for Proposals (RFPs) are currently under review and the monies will be distributed in summer. These awards are in addition to the $1500 award being given to a student whose dissertation focused on the theory, methodology or application of EMDR and will be awarded at the 2010 EMDRIA Conference. The Board is currently considering other larger projects, with more details to follow. For details about the Foundation or to get more information on how to be part of the SUCCESS by giving a gift, or making a one-time donation or better yet, sign-up for automatic monthly payments, please go to the Foundation’s webpage currently located at www.emdria.org and follow the link to “Donate to EMDR Research.” Thank you for your foresight and being a part of the Foundation’s SUCCESS. protocol. The biggest innovation from this years meeting was the introduction of crystal tappers. Holding a crystal in each hand that stimulates the left and right parts of the brain. Each set of crystals represented different chakras and different parts of the body. We also discussed putting together a mastermind group for those people interested in integrating energy work with EMD
