libera!ism is the foundation of American values

·s-thll$0 days Conservatives . hnve convinood themselves, and eome of the American public,

thet being a Liberal is nhln to being·S: c8nkarr,ying melljber of the . Comm~ Pnrty. Wbil9 this may be

..:!:.. a greit smmu" taetic fbr an _election · year, to believe sueb a notion proves

thet the believer is uneducated in the limdementols of the American political system.

Our notion was founded on liberal· ism. Embodied in the Deelaration ot lndspendanoe nre ita tlJreo toneta:

,"LLCe, Liberty, and the Pumuito( Happinoos." The Very term, it.oelf, is tebn ftom the 88Dleroot DB the seeond oftheae preeepta. To be a Liberal is to defend the .treedom, the Uberty ot all people who make up our great nellon.. To he a liberal is to trust indi· viduals imd families to nm their-own Jives as they see lit. To be a liberal is . to a:eate a nation where anyone can I!XI:el if they nre willing to work.

In order, to understand the true nature ofliberalism, mid to dispel the

Today we had two incidents that put a spotJight on one of Ute major problems that we have at your

""~llii~<l Humane Society, getting lost pets back to lheir owners.

We had one dog ''check"' himself in, by running up to staff member while he was outside cleaning. He's a very cute dog, but we have no way of getting him back to his owners unless they contact us. The dog is wearing no identification.

He may have had a col1ar and tags. but maybe he left them behind some place, or maybe they were taken off for him to get a bath. It doesn't mauer. if he had them, they are not helping hil"l.

The simple truth is that more pets die each year as a result of being lost than from all diseases combined. Ninety percent of lost pets are never identified.

Another puppy came in after stopping off at a school to play with the kids. Attached to his collar he had the remnants of'a rope that he had chewed to

make his escape. Luckily. his owner

thought about aeeing us. and th,ey were reunited within a matter of minutes of the pet being brought lo us. Those are the stories that we really like at the Humane Society. and we want pets to get home.

Spring is the start of our busy season at the shelter. we have: Jitters of puppies and ldnens coming in as well as .strays who escaped to go exploring or search for a mate. Only a yery few of the sttay animals that come into the shelter or that we take lost reports over the phone for. have any identification.

If your pet is missing. · slart to search immediately. Please don't wait thinking that they Will come home on their own. There ~ too many dangers for an animal alone. Wildlife. people and busy highWays pose very teal dangers.

Notify your veterinarian and neighbors that the pet is missing. and please call the shelter. We will take a

It is very important to have current identification on your pet at all times. Bven if they are house dogs or cats, and never leave your home or property.
